Bohs -v- Sporting Fingal is live on RTE2 on Friday.

Tough game for Shels to start with. Don't think we'll win. 1-1 or 1-2.

It all kicks off again :)

Won't be up in Sligo myself this weekend due to work but I'm confident of sneaking a victory. 1-0 or 2-1 to the Hoops. More likely the latter as our new defence doesn't seem to have gelled yet based on the performance against Wexford Youths.

I personally think they will be. They haven't made any big signings but they had promotion form in the last 15 games of last season. Think they'll be tough.

Bohemians v Sporting Fingal • Dalymount Park • 7.35 pm De Bowezzz
Bray Wanderers v Dundalk • Carlisle Grounds • 7.45 pm Dundalk
    Drogheda United v U.C.D. • United Park • 7.45 pm Draw
    St. Patrick's Athletic v Galway United • Richmond Park • 7.45 pmDraw
Sligo v Shamrock Rovers • The Showgrounds • 7.45 pm Rovers

Great to have football back and thankfully the chances of asterix's on the table are less this year, Sligo and Bohs the possible exceptions.

Hard to see beyond the top two last year slugging it out again this season for the title and they are both set up well for a decent assault on Europe.

Myself and a mate are heading to the Bohs game on Friday. Wouldn't be a huge fan of Irish football but I'm curious to see what all the fuss is about.... That and I have nothing else to on Friday nights.

Cork City didn't apply for a licence so I'm not surprised Cork City didn't get a licence. The FAI denied Cork City Investment FC Ltd. a licence. The full name of the club is Cork City FORAS Co-op. It's easier to refer to it as Cork City. Poor wind-up attempt. Keep taking snipes, it's nice to know we're hated!

Friday night football is back, whohoo!

I have erased the memory of last season's trials and tribulations - talk of relegation doesn't sit well with me. New season, new squad, new hope. . .(we'll see how long it lasts)

I'm gonna be optimistic and predict a 2-1 Pat's victory :D - Galway won too many matches in Inchicore last season

I think we'll stick one over on Shams. I'm really impressed with the way our preseason has gone and with every single one of our signings, especially Almeida who is better than Murray when he's on top form.

I don't recall ever seeing you post in a LOI thread and yet this last week you seem to be posting constantly about Cork City and FORAS. Now i would'nt mind but your attempts at wumming are failing badly and it's become an embarrassment to see.

But keep trying there champ. I'm sure you'll get it right someday.;)

Good to see the the League of Ireland are on the ball- website states that Cork City still listed as Premier League team and Cork City’s ‘latest news’ is from October 2009

No sign of fixtures for this weekend either!

Twigg is out for a few games, so a draw would suit fine although I think we'll see more of of the 4-5-1 formation and I still think we can still pull goals out of the team. With Amond playing his first games against us out for Sligo and the Turner affair still bubbling, it really could either way and should be a good atmosphere. Can't wait for Saturday.

I can't agree. We are stronger in all departments than last season where we beat them twice with ease in Sligland, they are seriously weaker. Its three easy points, but the fact its the first game of the season might be a factor.

As for the 'Turner affair', I predict a very, very messy outcome (*) for the Sligs if they continue to push it. ;)

Sligo's obsession with beating Rovers lies somewhere between Bohs and Cork, so that alone will be enough to make a difficult game. Rovers should win as they are far stronger, but I've got it down for another 1-0 defeat in these games.

    You're deluded.

We're weaker? We're minus Cretaro, who was not at his best since last July. And that's it. Our back line looks to be more solid and our midfield is ten times the midfield that we had last season. Podge and Blinkhorn will be better than Cretaro and Blinkhorn, cause it was Blinkhorn and the rest of the team who made Cretaro look good.

Overall, Boco's been replaced by Paul Whelan at RB. Whelan looks solid, and fit as a fiddle. Nice Seamus Coleman mold about him.
    CB, Peers, Almeida and Foran.

Peers, best CB in the league bar none.
Almeida will be good once he gets back into it. He's had no pre season.
Foran, looks ok but the reports are good.

    LB, Davoren, Ventre, Keane
All sufficient and better options than Kendrick last season.

I could go on, but I think we have a fantastic squad this season. The depth there is something we've never had before in the Premier since 06

As for the 'Turner affair', I predict a very, very messy outcome (*) for the Sligs if they continue to push it. ;)

Push it? He signed a contract with us and treated us like ****. Then you treat us like **** by unsettling him and "signing" him. Would you take it lying down?
You can have him, but as long as you stump up for him.

    You're deluded.

Of course I am. We beat you four times last season with ease, why would I be in any way shape worried about playing you this year with the strengthening we have done?
We're weaker? We're minus Cretaro, who was not at his best since last July. And that's it. Our back line looks to be more solid and our midfield is ten times the midfield that we had last season. Peers is a decent player. The rest are mediocre at best. The fact that you are trumpeting our fifth choice striker from last year as your saviour sums up your ambition. Boco, Peers and Cretaro were the Sligs team and two of them are gone.
Push it? He signed a contract with us and treated us like ****. Then you treat us like **** by unsettling him and "signing" him. Would you take it lying down?
You can have him, but as long as you stump up for him.

First, Rovers were approcached by his agent to sign him. No-one 'unsettled' him. He was listed as a free agent by the PFAI at the time.

Second, he did not sign a contract with Sligs nor was he registered with them.

Third, if you paid him in the absence of a contract (which it appears you did), where does that money come in on your accounts? How does it factor in the 65%? Especially any bonuses. Was he paid cash....?

Are you sure you want to shake that tree?

Its academic whether we would take it lying down or not. There is no way on gods green earth the Rovers board would be amateur enough to pay a player who was not signed and leave the situation in limbo for months on end. If we were, I would be angry at them, not the player or club he went to. This is a Sligs amateur night production from start to finish, and only Fran Gain choking a simple call (MON is right, only one of us has his registration, its fundamentally straightforward) has dragged this into arbitration.

Have to disagree with you, I think Cretero will be a big big loss. You say that the rest of the players made him look good? he was still the one that put the ball into the back of the net. There is no way that Amond is as good as him no matter what way you dress it up.
Overall, Boco's been replaced by Paul Whelan at RB. Whelan looks solid, and fit as a fiddle. Nice Seamus Coleman mold about him.
Boco is also a massive loss as I think he was one of the better players in the league. Would have loved to see him in Oriel.
    CB, Peers, Almeida and Foran.

Peers, best CB in the league bar none.
Almeida will be good once he gets back into it. He's had no pre season.
Foran, looks ok but the reports are good.
Peers is decent but no way the top CB in the league. In fact he wouldn't even be in the top 5.

Heary, McGuinness, Oman, Burns, Sives, Murray and Price all better IMO

Foran is a good player. Very strong and good in the air. I was hoping for one of either him or Breen signing. We got Breen so I'm happy with that.
I could go on, but I think we have a fantastic squad this season. The depth there is something we've never had before in the Premier since 06

I think Sligo fans are seriously over estimating their squad and underestimating the teams around them. They could be in for a big shock this season. Dundalk and Pats will both finish in front of them.

The only players I'd take from the Sligo squad to strengthen the Dundalk squad would be Ventre, Foran and McCabe. With Possibly only Ventre as a definite starter

Amond to score more goals than Raf this season, defo. I'm not trumpeting, but if we lost Blinkhorn we'd be in a bigger hole than we're in now with Raf gone.

Boco is also a massive loss as I think he was one of the better players in the league. Would have loved to see him in Oriel.

On huge wages. I'd have loved to see him back but he's just simply too much to pay when we've good enough players there already. That and the fact he can't defend.

Peers is decent but no way the top CB in the league. In fact he wouldn't even be in the top 5.

Heary, McGuinness, Oman, Burns, Sives, Murray and Price all better IMO

Heary, Murray and Sives come close. McGuinness, Oman and Burns are useless lumps. Burns is way too slow.

Foran is a good player. Very strong and good in the air. I was hoping for one of either him or Breen signing. We got Breen so I'm happy with that.
He won't play that much 'cause Mauro is above him in the pecking order.

The only players I'd take from the Sligo squad to strengthen the Dundalk squad would be Ventre, Foran and McCabe. With Possibly only Ventre as a definite starter

Ventre won't even be starting for us. :o
