    Hi,

I have a HTPC system that was built for me, I'd like to upgrade it to Win 7 however it only has 768 RAM and the recommendation is 1g.

So my dumb question is as follows

    1. Is all RAM the same and if not how do I know what RAM to get?

btw I've tried contacting the person who provided me with the system however they will not return my emails :'(

    thanks

    Your running 800MHz DDR2 Ram.

Heres a lists of kits for sale on komplett that would be able to replace the sticks you have in now

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/search.aspx?q=PC2+6400

Just make sure its 240 pin before you buy

He means make sure it says 240 pin on the website your buying from, no need to rip your pc apart.
Edit: Eh well apart from installing it, in before it's pointed out:pac:

    Hi tmalmb

What on the mainboard tab in cpuz

motherboards have a max amount of ram they can take.
if you list the make and model we can give you a better idea of what ram to get.

if your going to run windows 7 get 2gb ram minimum

this 2gb kit should be ok but its best to list make and model of your motherboard.

Hi, this might be a stupid question...
I salvaged my old computer and it has 512mb of RAM, which I want to upgrade. If I buy 1gb can I put it in with the 512mb, or do they have to be the same size, say 512 and 512, or 1gb and 1gb? I have 4 slots for RAM, btw.

Never mind... I found out that my system requires RAM in matching pairs

Ok, so I'm as slow as my media centre in following through on this

The manufacturer is ASUSTeK (Computer INC) and the model is M3A78-CM

Any recommendations to insure I purchase the correct RAM and the adequate size?

    thanks for your help
