Police called when a Dad takes a photo of his son on a children's ride

Just seen an interview with this Guy from the UK who was approached by security while out shopping and told to stop taking photos of his son on a children's toy train ride.

Security guy told him it was because he could be a paedophile

So he takes a quick snap of the security guy so he can lodge a complaint at a later stage and goes about his business in other shops.

Then the cops come into that shop and tell him he must delete the photos, but he refused.

So, what do you think about this kind of security?

Is it acceptable? Was the security guy right as this could one day save some child from being abducted, or has the world gone loco?

    Bizzare.

I supose its the male burden though isnt it?

Haven't you heard? All males are a paedophile until proven heterosexual.

Men can't sit beside a child on some airplanes. They are guilty just because they are men.

Such an outdated focus on stranger-danger when the overwhelming majority of abuse is done be someone well known to the child.

Lawsuit on the way there imagine the embarrassment the man went through.Wonder what happened when his son got off the ride and went over to his dad:eek:.Sounds like the security guard never apologised and the store releases a statement apologises on behalf of him.Plus if they were checking the camera wouldn't they of seen the man with his wife and son originally. The world has gone mad.

Yeah, seen that article where the guy in the UK was suing British Airways.
A businessman is suing British Airways over a policy that bans male passengers from sitting next to children they don't know - even if the child's parents are on the same flight.

Mirko Fischer has accused the airline of branding all men as potential sex offenders and says innocent travellers are being publicly humiliated.

In line with the policy, BA cabin crew patrol the aisles before take-off checking that youngsters travelling on their own or in a different row from their parents are not next to a male stranger.

If they find a man next to a child or teenager they will ask him to move to a different seat. The aircraft will not take off unless the passenger obeys.

This will be the death of photographers and photo-shops that develop your pics. Everyone will have to have their own digi camera and even then as proved here your not safe from judgement.

This american fear is being instilled across UK and Ireland now.

I remember smiling at children and being nice to them ...these days I ignore them, frown at them or shout at them.
Apparently the(ir) world is all the better for it, or so they tell me.

Saw this on Sky News. Shocking. They interviewed your man, I was surprised he wasn't more angry.

There's a massive problem with sexism and prejudice.

God I hate when that happens.

On-topic, yeah, even riding on the bus I'm careful not to even look at kids, and if one sits beside me I'm too terrified to move for the whole trip. And even at family reunions, with young cousins, it's fine for the women who can hug the kids, let them sit on their knees, lift them up, whatever, but the men simply cannot.

If it keeps up, a generation or two from now and male adults are going to be completely, emotionally removed from young children and that ain't healthy.

I posted this before but a grabbed a child one day that was running out on the road the mother thanked me but for a split second my brain went into: "No wait, they'll think I'm a Pedo ".

Thankfully that was just a split second but it just goes to show fcuked up we are all becoming.

Even if I'm somewhere like on the Luas and some little kid starts smiling at me as I'm tapping away on my phone and he / she thinks it's interesting, I'm afraid to smile back in case everyone starts screaming 'PAEDOPHILE, THERE'S A PAEDOPHILE STARING AT MY CHILD' .. :p

I'm exaggerating but the cautiousness is there nonetheless.

It's just getting ridiculous at this stage-i've had to do a child protection course, which is fair enough, but the amount of crap in it is amazing. Totally different rules for men and women. When it gets to something like this where a parent can't even take a photo of their own child there is something wrong somewhere.

Thats crazy, It's not just men who are sex offenders, sure a woman could be a sex offender just as much as a man! remember that awful case where that woman nursery school teacher was charged in england for the sick and brutel sexual abuse of little infants while there where in her care. As a woman myself I'd be very careful who I'd let care for my baby while at work or anywhere! be it a Man or Women!

Frankly, this kind of paedophile hysteria is getting completely out of hand. It's as if people thought Brass Eye's Paedogeddon special was an instructional guide on procedure. This and the British Airways case are prime examples of how utterly overboard the paedophile suspicion is getting, and it's only going to get worse and worse until society cops on to itself.

If we saw a man getting arrested for picking up his son from school, it wouldn't surprise me any more.

Well I remember a Boardsie poster telling a story how he was asked not to wait outside the school gates with his car while he was collecting his daughter, simply put, because he was a bloke.

What about just taking pictures on the street? What if there happens to be a child in one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,262 ✭✭✭✭Joey the lips

Actually thats interesting. I wonder if it had been a women taking the photo;s would the security guard have behaved the same.

It was stupid the man takeing the guards photo. A simple look at his name badge or a request to speak to his superior would be simpler.

yes... The world is gone mad but lets face it... The world is mad.,..

Doesn't surprise me in the least. It's practically a witch hunt for paedophiles these days, and if you can't find one, some innocent guy will do if you just fire a baseless accusation. Do people even consider the amount of embarrassment and humiliation that such an accusation would bring to the person it's aimed at?

It was antagonistic and thats why I reckon he was asked to delete it. Also I would be interested to know if legally its clear cut. In otherwords I imagine its legal to take a landscape picture but to take a portrait picture... I would wonder.

How much of a stretch would it be to consider that if police discovered you were in possession of such a photo, it would be considered child porn, even if it is a picture of yourself?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,228 ✭✭✭epgc3fyqirnbsx

Its a bit sad really. When I was young there were plenty of frindly aul men, salt of the earth type, who would stop in the street for a chat and maybe give you a pound for an ice cream.

Men are afraid to even look at a child that isn't their own now, if you saw a child crying in the street you'd probably look around for the nearest woman to do something

What picture? I see no picture!

I never even thought about that. Wouldn't surprise me tbh. Drawing Lisa Simpson naked could get you arrested.

I remember when my uncle bought his camcorder to the beach when he brought us all. He started filiming us, a harmless video for the family. Until some prick came along and threatened to call the police. He wasn't even filming other children.

All makes are a paedophile until proven heterosexual.

    What, including Lexus?

Paedophiles are the new witches. They had problems telling witches apart from normal people back then. They found a solution though - just burn 'em all.

We haven't really progressed at all.

    Afraid not.
This rule is enforced on all UK council playgrounds for at least 15 years. My 5 year old daughter fell from a swing in a London playground in 1994. I ran in to see if she was ok, and was grabbed by an attendent at the gate who threatened to call the police if I went any further. No male adults were allowed inside, or were allowed to use a camera.

Unfortunately, the following story is much worse:

Mom defends soldier accused of having child porn
    January 15, 2010 1:03 PM

GALESBURG -- An Illinois National Guard soldier in Afghanistan has been charged by the U.S. Army with possessing child pornography over pictures of a young relative his mother says she sent him.

Terri Miller of Galesburg says she sent her son, Specialist Billy Miller, pictures of the little girl to help him get over his homesickness.
The pictures show the child in a swimsuit playing a wading pool and sitting on a truck. In one, the girl is wearing a swim suit and part of her buttocks are exposed.

The Army says Miller will stay in Afghanistan until his court martial. His unit came home last August. Miller faces jail time, if convicted.

Terri Miller says the pictures are innocent.

WQAD TV reports that the child is a relative Billy treated as his own child when the girl was diagnosed with cancer as her father was going through boot camp. The family notes that the same pictures are on family computers and on Facebook pages, and no one else has been investigated.
"You have no clue how it eats me up", said a crying Terri Miller. "I blame myself every day, every day, if I wouldn't have sent the pictures he would be home."

not that much of a stretch considering in the US, some girls aged 14-16 who "sexted" naughty pictures of themselves to their boyfriends were kicked off the cheerleading team and there were serious talks of charging them with distribution of child pornography, though i'm not sure if it followed through.
    Ridiculous.

So the security guard was ok with him walking around with the kid that he thought wasn't his, but if he tried to take a photo that's not allowed?

If he actually thought he was a paedophile surely he should have tried to take the child in danger away from him, no?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,941 ✭✭✭caseyann

No he was right to do so,after he found he was the father then he should have stepped away.

jesus dunjohn. that is bad. i don't think i know any male in my family that would distance themselves from the kids. i know some men don't like to be watched playing with kids because they're a bit shy but leave them to their own devices and they return to the age of ten! :)

who the hell doesn't have these pictures of their kids? i know i do. kids don't care about being naked, my daughter prances around after her bath in the nip and i have the photos to shame her for when she's older :D

i think the world is feckin mad, men not being allowed to sit beside kids they don't know, like what in the name of jaysus does the airline think they are going to do? rape them infront of everyone on the bloody plane?

    rant over :)

Really does say a lot that a soldier at war is nearly sent to jail cause of half a buttock in a photo of young girl he knows that has cancer.

He most likely has seen friends die in battle and have their body's blown to bits and then to have something like that leveled at you about a buttock in a photo .. he must feel like laughing, if it all wasn't so fcuking sad.
