Road safety appeal to the catholic church of Ireland

I would hereby like to publicly appeal to the church to have all churches, chapels, stations of the cross and other statues that are closer than 500 m to a roundabout or road intersection torn down and rebuilt at a greater distance.

That way we atheist road users would be spared from devout christians genuflecting and bowing their head whilst negotiating roundabouts or dangerous junctions.
With full concentration restored to these drivers there is a chance that proper attention might be paid to maneuvering, indicating, general control of the vehicle and the rules of the road.

Several lives could be saved by this per year.

I also think serious consideration should be given to removing the exemption from parking regulations currently enjoyed by those attending Mass.

Maybe they could change the genuflection law and make a quick toot of the horn or a flash of the hazards ok!

But you don't need to pay attention when God is your co-pilot. A Padre Pio sticker also negates the need to service your car.

Anyway, if my mother-in law is anything to go by, you seemnigly need to bless yourself if you catch so much as a glimpse of a steeple (luckily, she doesn't drive), so your 500m limit might not be enough.

As my lord and saviour J.R "Bob" Dobbs once said: "You know how dumb the average person is? Well, by definition, half of 'em are even dumber than THAT."

    1. Why bother rebuilding them
    2. Ban all funerals from the roads too
    3. Rabble rabble rabble

I don't understand with councils don't just target roads with churches at mass times, easy revenue generation

I thought a Padre Pio sticker was a valid substitute for a current tax or insurance disc?

Because every TD in the country would have to write letters to the traffic wardens and we'd have no government left!

    Fixed that for you.

I fail to see why a main road should crawl to a halt just because someone's funeral is taking place.
We appreciate that people may be grieving but that doesn't give them justification to bring a whole town to a halt.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,793 ✭✭✭✭Hagar

Thanks, but it wasn't broken. :p

The average punter only dies once but JCB drivers crawling along the roads do so day-in day-out, much worse IMHO.

Back to real funerals, don't you really love the quaint country custom of traffic approaching a funeral from the opposite direction stopping and allowing the funeral pass them instead of just driving by normally?

    Beeb and wave FTW.

Gards who think it OK to park anywhere?
2 wheels on the pavement parkers?
Pepole who stand in shop doorways?

Dont forget Graveyards, God demands genuflection there too. Though considerably more messy to up and move I guess.

About the stupidest post I've ever seen on Motors. This forum has reached a new low.
Churches etc were built long before roundabouts.

Besides, he's all to quick to lock threads if someone else tries to start one thats not relevant.
Motors forum people, stop talking about graveyards and Skodas and start talking about V8's and the future of Rotary etc.

Edit : facepalming doesn't make the thread any better!

I can honestly say this is the single most stupid thread I've seen on boards motors, and it's shít like this that helps keep its reputation down where it is.

This is one of the most retarded threads I have seen on motors yet, more retarded than when folks recommend a Renault

JHMEG beat me to it, similar sentiment. The fact a mod was the OP is not surprising either.

When a thread doesn't interest me then I just don't bother posting there. In any case, if you have a point to make then why not make it? Calling something stupid/retarded and just leaving it at that is hardly a cogent argument in anyone's book. Oh, and let's discuss the posts rather than the posters, k?
