    Hi Guys,

My sister recently made this for me for supper and it was delicious, so tasty that I doubt it could be healthy..

She made us 2 poached eggs and placed them on top of wholemeal buttered toast (2 slices) and tons of baby spinach. She drizzled it with sweet chilli sauce and a dash of tobassco. Also, salt & black pepper.

Is this a healthy dinner/supper? Poaching eggs I assume is healthy as you don't use oil or anything. I can't actually think of a helathier way to cook them but it was just so tasty that I can't believe it's healthy!!

We had 2 eggs each and 2 slices of toast each.
How many calories would this meal be?

    Thanks guys

Oh....on a side note, is sweet chilli sauce really bad for you? High in sugar etc etc

Sweet chili sauce is packed full of sugar all right, I reckon you could make a quick substitute out of fresh chili, lemon and lime juice, salt and pepper and a spoon of xylitol blitzed in a processor though.
How much is tons of spinach? I can only imagine you were able to fit so much on a slice of bread, was it cooked?
Was it real 100% wholemeal bread or that white bread with a bit of whole grain kernals thrown in for an authentic look?
Sounds gorgeous though, I might treat myself to bread one of these days and have this :D

I'd use the xyitol instead of sugar and leave out the cornstarch altogether though, it's only a thickener anyway.

Thats a bit of a weird mindset that tasty = unhealthy. Anyway i would hazard a guess that the meal would be around 400 calories, wouldn't worry too much about the sweet chilli as you said it was drizzled not drenched

    Thanks Khrystyna.

It was washed and ready to eat baby spinach. She puts loads on the side too without any dressing (we love spinach). The bread is Johnston Mooney & O'Brien wholemeal bread...not sure if that's good or bad!

She only drizzled the meal with sweet chilli sauce but I knew that couldn't be good...it's far too nice! How about hot tobassco? Is that bad for you cause I'm happy enough with just that?

Overall is it an okay meal?

Damn me and my sweet tooth. I could drink the bottle of that chill stufff!!

Lol me too! Ya thats a grand meal, if it was me I'd make my own chili sauce though but thats just me, that more complicated recipe I posted sounds amazing, I wish I had some xylitol in the house to make it now :p I too love my spinach I add it to everything, I buy about 6 bags (no joke) a week. :D
I'm not sure what bread that is as I don't really buy bread myself, but if it's dense and heavy bread in small slices (like soda bread is) it's grand, when they get a bit fluffy and porous (unless it's sourdough) you know it's because of the white processed flour.

    Two eggs is about 150cals
Two slices of bread is about 200 cals
Spinach is low enough not to worry about it.
Sweet chilli is about 50 cals for a reasonable serve
Hot tabasco is low in cals, and its used is such small amounts too.

I'd agree with 400 cals as made.
Drop the sweet chilli and maybe inc chilli flakes.
Maybe drop some of the bread. With one slice is comes down to 200 cals.

Sweet, thanks for that. I'm even a wee bit peckish after 2 slices so no way I'd cut it down to one but it's good to know the cals etc.
