Die Hard With a Vengeance was brilliant.

Die Hard 4 wasn't great, but it was a fun action film, with a couple of truly ridiculous moments that let it down.

Ah now... Die Harder was the weakest of the bunch. Die Hard 4.0 wasn't amazing, but I love With a Vengeance.

I loved Die Hard 4.0. I laughed my ass off.

Die Hard with a Vengence was anything but awful!
    It is excellent!
Die Harder > Die Hard 4.0

Die Hard 4.0 upto the incident with the truck vs. the fighter jet scene was enjoyable but did get a bit ridiculous!

But the real crime was how the makers lowered the censorship to entice a greater audience (12-14 yr olds) in order to make more money! Its not the same when John McClane says 'Jerkweed' & 'god-dam', 'son of a..' instead of 'I am up to my as$ in terrorist shít....again'

If they do Die Hard 5, they should up the censorship and up the blood and swearing!

Die Hard 4 was a disgrace to the franchise with the lowering of the rating (The uncut version is pathetic when they add digital blood and dub in the odd "fùck") Average action movie but no Die Hard movie.

You should've seen my face when John McClane delivered his catchpharse "Yippee-Ki-Yay mother..................*BANG*" That was the final nail in the coffin for me.

I was hyped up for a 4th one but I won't be arsed about this next one. I'll stick with the original, violent, and swear-riddled 3 films.

I loved all the Die Hard movies. Stupid, OTT, overblown, hard, fast and great fun.

I think that the original was one of the best action/thriller movies ever, and that the series could not get any better. But the sequels were all the same formula and were all as good as one could expect, tbh.

Looks like I'm on my own with not liking 'Die Hard with a Vengence'

Never mind, I stand by what I said, anyone else think the ending is stupid? its like a extra whatever amount of minutes added on just because they were running short on time.

I really enjoyed Die Hard 4. Didn't really care for Die Hard With A Vengeance.

All the Die Hards are superb. Die Hard 4.0 was so over the top I almost cried with joy.

This is the alternate ending if you never saw it. Jeremy Iron's escaped with the gold but a few months later McClane tracks him down:

Did u know, the script for Die Hard with a Vengenance was called Simon Says. It was supposedly going to be a Lethal Weapon movie as it required two cops.

Fortunately Riggs and Murtoch didn get it due to complications and availability. Instead bring in John McTiernan, John McClane, Hans Grubers brother and an angry black electrician!

I will admit the ending is a tag on and they perhaps should have jus put in a boat chase or something like that, or drop another gruber off a building!

But that is jus a tiny black dot on a masterpiece!

Also i am seeing a trend in Die Hards
Die Hard 1; John McClane saves a building
Die Hard 2; John McClane saves an airport and a fleet of planes
Die Hard 3; John McClane saves New York City
Die Hard 4: John McClane saves America

I predict that Die Hard 5 could be John McClane saving the world or in John McClane in Space!:D
Basically could be Armageddon with terrorists!

    "Pigs in spaaaaaace."

Live Free or Die Hard (should have kept the title for the European market) was pretty much McClane does 24. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing apart from originality so I'd be happy with another one.

Director is confirmed as "Noam Murro" but Bruce Willis has not signed on yet.

Without John McClane, that's not Die Hard (& in the case of Live Free or Die Hard it wasn't really it either). 16 Blocks should have been Die Hard 4. They would only have had to change the character's name, everything else was there for it.

Hopefully no cgi & more gritty.

    Merged.

I still haven't seen the fourth film. Three films was enough imo. Willis is too long in the tooth for these films. And there's not a director left in Hollywood capable of doing an 80s/early 90s-style action film without editing it to death.

Thought he was good in Red, would like to see die hard go down that route of the old retired cop caught up in a heist - just not as overblown as the last one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

Die Hard 4 was decent but it was no Die Hard film. It was in a different universe to the others in regards to sheer bloody violence and swearing. Stupid digital blood which was added in a bit more plus some dubbed "fùcks" in the "Unrated" version.

Die Hard 5 needs to see the return of Carl and memorable European henchmen with one of them being the tough bastard that's 2nd in command to the villian and kicks the shìte out of McClane.

It's needs to be a Die Hard film and not be toned down for kids who were still in nappies when the 3rd film came out.

They ruined the franchise and won't be getting any more of my money.

    Same goes for Indiana Jones.

It's just Fox milking the cow til every drop is gone.Willis is pretty much done action-wise so the dude needs to bolster up his pension.

I won't bother seeing this. Ever.

The addition of John Moore doesn't fill me with hope but I won't entirely dismiss him.

Only way I'll be any way interested in this film is if they keep it 18s and toned down the absurdness. I don't want to hear about how films can work with PG-13 and 15s, the 3 Die Hards were 18s because of the trademark violence and foul language.

Toning down Die Hard 4 with digital blood and safe swear words made it look flabby and out of touch with the others. The "Unrated" version was a disgrace of what they tried to pull off by adding larger digital blood splatters and poorly dubbed swear words. Plus, cutting off the one & only Die Hard quote everybody knows was the biggest insult to the franchise.

Obviously, plot and characters are what made the Die Hard movies too. John McClane against an angry nerd while teamed up with whiny Justin Long just didn't cut the mustard.

Die Hard 4 would be decent on it's own but it was no Die Hard movie.

Die Hard 5 would gain instant interest if it paired these two properly together at last :pac:

Thing is - IMO it's impossible to replicate a Die Hard film, that 80s era is forever gone unfortunately.

I'd rather Hollywood just made a good original action film, rather than sticking with Bruce Willis and the franchise.

In terms of quality i assume the general view is:

    1 Die Hard
    2 Die Hard 3
    3 Die Hard 2
    4 Die Hard 4

These studios spend hundreds of millions of reviving franchises yet they rarely seem to get the most important thing correct, a decent script.
Die Hard 4 and Indiana Jones 4 were abominations, two appalling films that could have been written by a five year old.

Love the Argyle bit in the limo at the start "this IS Christmas musc - it was December 24th......" and of course the closing credits.

The 4th isn't a bad movie, its not a Die Hard though. It's not even that bad when you watch it on its own, but a gang of us did a Die Hard Day about 2 years ago, and its unrecognizable from the others when you watch them in a row.

Die Hard 2 always feels disjointed to me.

The first one will always be the best but I wouldn't credit the third one to be as good as the second.

The Christmas setting in the airport and the plot itself is what I really liked about Die Hard 2 and I will always regard it as one of the first 90's actions films.

It's being a while since I've looked at .....With a Vengeance but I wasn't all that impressed with the New York setting and German terrorist. Jackson and Willis did go well though. It would of being brilliant if they shared more scenes together in Pulp Fiction.

Die Hard 4 was a bit over the top but okay and that's where it should be left, in fact it should of being left after the third......

Tried a few times watching Die Hard4, but had to switch off after 20/30 min, and attempt to forget what I just seen, Bruce in a remake of a bad Sandra Bullock movie.

I like the idea of having the original cop from DH1. I supose if it was a retirement party for JM or that cop set back in LA and the son of that German-dude seeking revenge, and in the end JM dies a hero with a cigerette in his mouth. But then I also like space idea, maybe ISS, JM climing up the side of a shuttle while fending of all sort of bad-guys whist shuttle blasting off YKYMF, but that would be too far fetched, but again it's Hollywood.

DHV didn't much like the first time but 2+ times, right up there with DH1.
