Exercise in between running

    Hi All

Just past few weeks started running about 3 -4 times per week. Started off at 7K which was too much so now running about 5K. All advice seems to point to every other day so what other exercise can I try & fit in that won't make running too tiring and build up endurance.

I'm really looking for general fitness and maybe do 10k comfortably so if i did 7K (my max at moment) one day per week what should I do the other days.

Do cross trainer & bike use same muscle groups and therefore be avoided, swimming seems Ok and push ups?

    Any help appreciated

There is little wrong with using the cross trainer and bike on your days off running as they are low impact. The bike on a light gear and a relative high rpm 80-90, will help with the recovery.

A bit of weight training to prevent injury and keep the muscles balanced might not go astray. Swimming is ideal as it is very low impact and if your front crawling you work the upper body more also.

    just my 2 cent

I run most days anywhere from 5-7k... did 10 the other day and it killed me the next day!

Is it really a bad idea to go everyday..? It s not actually overly strenus just general fitness id usually do 5k in about 20-25 mins, I dont think thats going hard at it...is it?
