Royal Canal as a cycle route

I cycled out along the Royal Canal as far as Castleknock Station the other day, and while I know there some type of aim to make this a route in the future, it just struck me how easy it would be to turn it into a cycle route.

It's 7km between Castleknock Station and Prospect Road at Drumcondra / Phisborough. Between there it's mostly already paved -- mostly good surface, some parts are in need of prepare and there's about 1.5km of just mud between Ashtown Station and before the M50. The other main problem is the gates on the path which can fit a bicycle, but you have to stop at each one. The only tight spot I can remember is the road bridge at Castleknock Station.

And there's also not a lot between Prospect Road and the Docklands to be upgraded.

    Anybody use the current path?
