Right, I putting the idea of the Hall of Fame from the "Post draft PW activities" thread into action.

Basically, this thread is where you nominate wrestlers to be inducted into the "PW Hall of Fame" (Name pending). The wrestlers with the most nominations will be inducted. The induction ceremony will hopefully take place the night before WrestleMania 26.

I'll start this off with a man who should be in every wrestling Hall of Fame, he is the Nature Boy, Ric Flair.

    Ric_Flair_501821a.jpg

Doesn't post-draft mean after the draft is over though?

No, you can nominate away more than once. Also, you can nominate a wrestler/announcer who someone else picked e.g.someone else can nominate Terry Funk.

my vote would also go to Hogan and not trying to start a flame war or anything but there is no way Benoit should be considered IMHO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 685 ✭✭✭Cactus Colm

I'm a bit wary of nominating anyone ... don't want to give anybody any ideas!

But ... can I suggest a Corridor of Infamy as part of the Hall of Fame. Where the worst gimmicks / angles / matches / etc can go.

And immediately I'd nominate THE SHOCKMASTER! because I'm too lazy to think of anyone/thing else.

Also ... would it be an idea to induct several people at a time, per categories ie, induct a wrestler known for their technique, brawling, tag teams, entertainment value, etc.

Benoit the wrestler should be inducted. He was technically sound and 1 of the best wrestlers ever imho. What Benoit did is unforgivable but there's no denying he was 1 of the best wrestlers around

id agree with that but somehow doubt he will get in this year, nominated yes but cant see him getting more votes than some of the other names this time considering the hall of fame is currently empty.

Pretty much everyone named here would be a good entrabt to a hall of fame.

But if you're asking for one name that deserves to be inducted first before everyone else it would have to be Hogan.

    agreed.

there can only ever be one 'first' or 'pioneer'.

and yes, Hogan's dislikeable, but he has to be given his dues.

    even Flair would agree.

This idea is good but needs a little shape to it I think.

Maybe the top 25 posters could privately PM a ballot of their chosen 10 people to be inducted in the Hall of Fame.

Dare 2 Defy could count up the votes and announce the top 5 being inducted the night before Wrestlemania?

After that everyone could release their ballot and some discussion could be had.

Yeah its a mess at the moment.

I think it should somehow involve a poll where people can vote on the most suitable oerson to go in. The issue isn't really whether the wresrtlers nominated in this thread are suitable, the real issue is who deserves to go in forst IMO. They'll all end up in it eventually anyway if it runs long enough.

The real debate should be whether Hogan, Austin, Rock or Sammartino should have the honour of getting in first.

I think a private ballot is best. Everyone has a top 5 or 10. Maybe give points for each pick (highest points for number 1 pick etc...)

I also think that perhaps a time frame should be put on it. Like we can all read books and watch youtube but at the end of the day, I can't say if Freddie Blassie was better than Buddy Rogers or if Rogers was better than Thez

    .

How on earth do you decide who is the top 25 posters though? Is that by post count or something?

It was done for the draft based on post count. Or let everyone vote. That part of it really doesn't matter.

What are the criteria the observer uses for its HOF. Thats the most legit HOF in the business and should be followed as closely as possible IMO. I know guys can only be nominated if they've been in the business for 15 or 20 yers AFAIK, like Jericho was only eligible in the last few years.

Surely this man should be an automatic entrant:

Other than that, i think everyone should have a vote. I 'd be happy to tally votes etc .

That's an awesome idea but not with the top 25 posters only voting. People who contribute in PW (be it consistently or casually) should have a say in this.

How about we do what WWE does? By that I mean, I'll release 1 inductee a week (hopefully, we'll have a class of 7), then the night before Mania, the HoF thread is started up and 7 users could do a write-up/speech about an inductee e.g BH does Hogan, Pingu does Lex Luger, Rjd2 does Masters (assuming they both get in) and their achievments.

Degag_, I'm going to take up your offer of help. If I'm going to be offline for a while, I'll let you know and you can "take the reigns". If ye want, send in yer choices to me (or Degag_ if I'm offline).

7 is too many. 2 maximum. Otherwise its just cluttered.

The private ballot is best also, as the beginning of this thread was a mess. I would say have everyone who wishes to be part, subit 3 who they think should be in the top 3. Then when tallied, open a poll of the top 5 most nominated, and the top 2 get the nod?

i agree with that mostly but in the first year of the hall of fame wouldent be against letting in 5 or so as anyone we put in at this stage will be without question HOF worthy as far as im concerned.

I was thinking, as it's the first year, may as well get a few in from different categories. ie Wrester, Female, Tag Team, Backstage, and Entertainer.

So you might Nominate Ric Flair as best wrestler, Manami Toyota for Female, The Midnight Express for best Tag, Pat Patterson for backstage (creating the Royal Rumble alone makes him worthy of HOF), and Goldust for Entertainer.

We're all fairly smart here, so I think it's important to recognise the contributions of people behind the scenes as well as the wrestlers themselves. People like Pat Patterson and Jim Johnston.

I think that only the best should go into the HoF.

I kinda agree with this but as was said dunno about the entertainer catagory although obviously Goldust would not be the first inductee on this part. id just tweak the name so we could possiby get guys who maybe arent brilliant wrestlers but were brilliant like Foley

That's exactly why I think there should be categories. Goldust, I think was an important wrestler for the attitude era. Certainly he may never have been main eventing, but he helped set the tone. People like Santino Marella and Honky Tonk Man, will never set the ring on fire, but they will provide great entertainment too, and I think should be recognised for it.

But Foley was a great brawler. He wasn't your classic technical wrestler, but certainly in his own style was up there.

Maybe Goldust wouldn't get in there ... but I'm sure you get what I'm saying anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,284 ✭✭✭Gerard.C

Personally, i would say one or two americans, one mexican, one jap, one non wrestler or something like that. It'd be a shame if Goldust was in a HOF and Santo wasnt like

I think if you only limited entry to say 3 to 5 guys every year, that would make it very unpredictable. You could then have lots of discussion as to why one should go in ahead of the other.

I would still maintain a private ballot would be best.

Polls are put up here quite regularly for all sorts of things. A private ballot makes the whole thing a little bit more special to me.

Also which is going to sound hypocritical from me who wanted no time limit in the draft, I think there should be 1 on here. We should only judge people who we have completely seen. I can't say if Thez should go in ahead of Buddy Rogers or vice versa. Pretending otherwise would make the whole thing a bit of a pompous excercise to me.

To make sure legendary people get in, 1 or 2 legends who obviously should get in, would get in each year with someone maybe writing about them.

These are just my suggestions anyway.

    I

    Hows this

2 Americans Singles wrestlers (one post 1980, one pre, for example)
    1 American Tag team
    1 American non-wrestler
    1 Japanese Singles/tag team
    1 Mexican singles/tag team

    Just a rough idea

the inaugural class of the Boards.ie Hall Of Fame could be something like this then:

Flair, Hogan, Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard, Vince McMahon, Kobashi & Misawa and Santo

Mmm 3 member so the BWA roster ;)

Exactly, something like that. The jap/mex wrestlers would be an interesting history lesson for many people on here too.

I'd put Michaels in before Hogan, since he's all round better than Hogan :pac:
