Difficulty catching my breath

    Hi everyone,

I'm 27 and very active, I go swimming regularly, to the gym and pilates as well and I don't smoke, have never smoked actually. About a week ago I noticed that I was starting to have difficulty catching my breath and it doesn't seem to be going away. Sometimes I'll have to take 4 or 5 deep breaths before I can catch it or if I yawn then I might be able to catch it as well. It's very uncomfortable as you can imagine....

I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what is causing it? Mods I'm not looking for any medical advice :) just to know if anyone else has experienced this.

    Thanks guys :pac:

    Go see a Doctor.

I have been to see one and he couldn't give me an explanation, he tested my lungs and fitness etc He suggested it could be anxiety or stress related but I'm not so sure. I've noticed it's particularly bad when I'm swimming. I think I will go for a second opinion.

Definately see a doc. I once suffered from this for about two months and it was probably due to the enormous amount of stress I was under at the time. Breath from your stomach, not your chest and it should help.

I started getting this last October and it still hasnt completely gone away. I've been to two different doctors and still havent got any real answers. 1st one put me on a ventolin inhaler, this did no good. Then I was sent for x ray, blood tests and a breathing test, nothing showed up on any of them. One doctor thought it might be indigestion so prescribed tablets for that, they did nothing. Currently on a steroid nasal spray, cant say if its working or not I was told it might take 3 months to notice any difference, currently about a month and a half in.
