    What I'm getting from the hardcore crowd is that KoFXII was a solid game it's just that it was only a bare bones crappy single player game and versus mode. Also the lack of backgrounds and characters, a pitiful amount for what is essentially the vs. series for SNK, meant it felt unfinished. SNK said that KoFXII would be a bare bones and a build block for the rest of the series. The character sprites and background took very long to draw and animate so they said that they are going to build upon the last installment with each successive game so they won't have to keep redrawing sprites and backgrounds. I'm hoping this will be good and also hoping for some decent netcode because so far on all SNK games it has been horrendous.

    Hey man, this thread is about a new version which hasn't actually been announced or shown yet. King of Fighters XII which I think you're talking about is meant to be fairly poor.

    I played it and I traded it in soon after. The online mode is beyond a joke. There's only survival mode as a single player option. The makers promised an update which would fix the online issues and give new charachters (including Mai:pac:) and more single player modes. What we got was a half assed "effort" of a patch which made the online play slightly less rubbish,but it was still unplayable-nothing else. Even the achievements seemed rushed.
    I'm sure KOFXIII will be infinitely better than KOFXIII but I hope the travesty that was KOFXII has'nt tarnished the reputation of the series to the point where sales will have a huge drop.( It happened with Suikoden. IV was poor but sold well then V was a Final Fantasy beater but sold poorly because of it's predecessor.) It will have to be good considering the hype surrounding the BluBlaze games.

    They never said they were putting Mai in KOF12, in fact i remember the SNK heads saying specifically that they WEREN'T putting Mai in there.

    Some one put a link in xbox forums and it said they were putting her,aswell as a load of other stuff in an update. I definitely remember reading it. It should still be in their forum.

    As we stated yesterday, we are currently in serious talks with SNK PLAYMORE about getting some of the online/netcode and functional concerns addressed as soon as possible. We have also passed along the top DLC requests that the fans are making so they can be very much aware of what people want. Here are some of the requests we have specifically passed along to SNK PLAYMORE:

    FUNCTIONAL ISSUES:
    1. Netcode performance improvements **HIGHEST PRIORITY**
    2. Ability to search for game sessions by connection speeds
    3. Adding the ability for players and spectators to quit out of online matches
    4. Addition of “kick” or “remove player” option from host lobbies
    5. Various game play bugs, including the Raiden/Elizabeth critical combo bug
    6. Ability to cancel or back out of the character selection screen

    I really do hope XIII is a step up. I still give KoF Maximum Impact 2 a twirl every few monthes and I always try to give any fighter I see a chance, but I got bored with KoFXII pretty quick.
    Not as quick as NeoGeo Battle Coliseum mind you, but that goes without saying. XD

    As a fan of the KoF games, imo and the other KoF fans, no KoF will beat 98UM or 2K2UM. Those were THE PERFECT kof games, so KOF13 will come and go by the casual crowd, everyone else will still be on 98 & 2K2.

    It was pretty disgraceful that Mai wasn't in XII, having said that, all is forgiven for her having such a sweet hit-the-ground animation.
    I didn't really play XII enough to gauge if this is going to be much better though.

    Then i'll take it up.
    As a long time SNK fan, i was VERY dissapointed & pissed off at KOF12, the system was in the game, it was well planned & executed in arcades, but the console port, where the real money is, was just ****.

    Me neither, although the gameplay system has been massively overhauled and most of what people didn't like about XII (online notwithstanding) seems to be gone.

    GGPO style netcode would be much better. Isn't BlazBlue's netcode supposed to be quite good?

    Even Ponder says GGPO is not as great as people make it out to be, it just has a low amount of people playing it, meaning less contingency, & less lag. Final Fight on XBLA & PSN is a test to improve the netcode.

    BlazBlue does have a good netcode, but it struggles on some long distance matches. Before each match, you get a syncronizing scree, then it continues to sync during the match intro. The longer the stutter sync goes on, the more input lag in the match. If i was to play a chap from japan say, It'd take around a minute for the intro sequence, which normally takes 15 seconds, to sync in.

    AKA there'd be 45ms input lag.

    The good thing about this though, it calculates the lag before the match, & the fight will play out smoothly during the rounds. No start-stop lag during the fight, just input lag.

    Some more info at the loke test.

    -used Beth, ash, iori
    -ex seems decent more hits/damage
    -lots of jumping attacks work like 12 and not older kofs harder to hit
    -hopping crossups are easy to do by accident
    -Beth has dashing uppercut that seems atleast upperbody invincible it went through haoshokoken, a juggle after into command throw okiseme
    -ash still no command grab or overhead, ex flame blow kiss makes 2 appear at close and far and last a while
    -ioris df+c is slow maybe overhead most combos work.. Didn't get to land a grab
    -got kicked off machine (win cap)
    -athenas crystal does little damage but is like instant
    -yuri has no uppercut but akuma like dive kick,ranges on pokes are short
    -mais ex fan is fast

    - KOF XIII essentially plays pretty close to 2002UM, but with much better graphics. I loved it, even though it wasn't what I was expecting / hoping for from the sequel to XII. It seems like an extremely solid system presented in a beautiful package. I just hope they nail the balance.
    - The producer, Masaaki Kukino, was there watching the loke test. Guy looked exhausted. Understandable I suppose, since he'd apparently been standing in an arcade for almost three-days straight watching people play KOF. That's a long-ass time to be watching people play KOF. He was quite friendly when I asked him a question, though. His English isn't bad either.
    - After playing, you were given a survey to fill out about your impressions of the game. I made only two (rather small) criticisms.
    - I asked for XII's camera zoom be included as an option, since I liked it. Screw you, pixel-haters!
    - I asked for Terry to say "ARE YOU OKAY!?" before the Buster Wolf. If that gets added (which is probably won't) I expect full credit!
    - And in the section where they asked what characters you wanted to see, I said K', Kula, Yamazaki and Vanessa (in that order). I chose them partly based I see them requested by fans more than most other characters. Since I know a lot of KOF fans outside of Japan can't go to the location test, I did my best to make sure your requests were (indirectly) heard.
    ... Thinking back, I should have just requested Ryuhaku Todo, Duck King, and Heavy D!.

    I'm sure everybody expected both from the positions of the blank slots.

    Vice looks much scarier than before, suppose when shes not showing a nice bit of leg you don't get distracted and know to run for the hills. :D

    On a side note I've been listening to the KoF2002UM soundtrack lately and it really drives home the lack of decent music in XII.

    All the great designs they have and they pick this guy? He couldn't hope to be more generic, I think his crowning moment was getting knee'd in the face by Joe in the FF anime.

    Granted I don't know his moves and being on a team with Kim might give him some character, but with so many fan favorites MIA...

    I got KoF XII last Christmas, just to try out a new fighting game and since some chap on my friends list played it from time to time. Put off by crap online. If everyone gets into this, I might pick it up.

    when is it out here,
    can i ask everyone to give this game a try and purchase it,
    SNK nearly went dead a few years back, it would be good to keep capcom competitors [competitors? lol] alive.

    besides it looks decent.

    I can't see anything on playasia about it. Is it just the arcade release?

    Anyway I'll be getting it for sure. I don't usually care for graphics but it looks beautiful.

    There's been no word on a console release yet, and there probably won't be for a while. That said, I'm really looking forward to it - they've recently proven with NGBC that they can actually make some decent netcode when they put the effort in.
