Anyone up for a quick spin tomorrow? I'm racing on Sunday, so I'm not looking to go nuts, just stretch the leg and see if my bike is working alright after rebuilding it. Phoenix Park, 10am?

    Route?

I'm easy. Something flattish in that general direction.

I heard your geography was a bit ropey but ...

...you don't know how to get to Phoenix Park?

Will be there possibly on Fixie.

Rottenhat is threatening to drag me on a 200km lap of Co. Wicklow (I know - not ideal prep for Sunday !), but if I wimp out, or don't wake up at 5am I might join you.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,269 Mod ✭✭✭✭Chips Lovell

Did he not do one of those epics on his own last week? Or is this becoming a weekly occurance now?

    Excellent race prep alright.

More or less, yes. I think there's about four weeks between now and the end of July where I won't be doing a long ride of at least 200k. And as LastGasp was foolish enough to join the team for the Fleche....

I know how to get there, but I need to know exact route, these boards things tend to start out with "easy" spin and turn into epic randonees.

I'm going to take my singlespeed if the pace will indeed be easy.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,269 Mod ✭✭✭✭Chips Lovell

I'm still in work, so I don't have time to come up with a route, but I promise you there will be no epicness and you can get away with your fixe.

Singlespeed, don't lump me in with those hipsters and their white stems.

I think I'd be on for something a bit midway between Rottenhat's 200 and Tonto's easy spin around Meath. I'd be concerned about frost/ice/even snow starting that early, the forecast is for it to be very cold for the whole weekend.

My midway I would be thinking 9/9:30 Dundrum start for 125-250km in Wicklow.

    ?

To clarify by "starting that early" I am referring to Rottenhat's plan for a 6am depart into deepest Wicklow.

I think he may be laughing at your offer of 125-250km as being a compromise solution.

I'll be heading out through Tallaght and along the N81 - if conditions are frosty I might stay on the N81 until Baltinglass but I think it should be all right. It was just as cold last week and there was little trace of frost on the roads.

    Haha, ok, typo, meant 150km.

Do you have a merry band lined up for this?

A band of men stout and true, yes...emty, Cadex and Andreas.Voigt, possibly LastGasp if he stops waffling.

Mind you, I'm not ruling out the usual hail of apologetic texts later this evening.

Just as an aside, the 'cycle' option in bikeroutetoaster is pretty cool, or well it will be when it's populated.

I'll almost certainly regret this in the morning, but could I tag along?

With all due respect, a few of us want to go for a shortish, flattish spin tomorrow. You're fitter than most of us, so it probably isn't a big deal to do 120km+ the day before the first race of the year. If you don't like the route, you don't have to come. But there's no need to get personal.

You are making a mockery of the Boards Saturday Spin traditions.

I am not racing myself tomorrow (marshaling) so keen on something a bit longer. Can fully understand your not wanting to do longer yourself if racing Sunday but I think you are tempting off a lot of people who are NOT racing on Sunday!

Thread should have been entitled "light pre-race spin for racers only" or somesuch.

Now, who is coming to Wicklow?

Not looking for a mental spin like others ;)

10am from the start point on your map?
Is there parking on that road?

It's his thread, he can call it what he likes.

You have to reach the metaphorical Luas bridge earlier if you want to call the shots.

Are you willing to entice people onto your spin with a free bidon and loan of your pump?

Would love to join you but since I got back from Spain I am suffering from gastroenteritis and I am under antibiotics. Irrelevant but I had to share it. It's a good way to lose weight though, 2.5kgs down since Monday. Enjoy people and be careful, it would probably be icy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 765 ✭✭✭oflahero

I'm looking to have a go at a first assault of Slieve Maan for 2010 tomorrow, starting 9am (here). 155 km. Out via an unconventional route up towards Sally Gap, and thence via Roundwood to Shay Elliott, none of your stopping in Laragh nonsense. Aiming for some grub in Baltinglass before a hammerfest back up the N81. Hopefully the high points will be passable, all was OK last week.

All tagalongs/interceptions welcome. Best of luck to all racing up Dunboyne way Sunday.

would have been well up for this, but it's starting a bit too late...

    Anyway have fun

Me too. 3kgs lighter than Monday. It has been a very unpleasant week.

No spin for me today, and no racing for me tomorrow. Disappointing.

It looks pretty bad in Ratoath

I'd be on for tagging along with the N81 group, what time are you meeting at and where?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,317 ✭✭✭lafors

Well are we still a go??
Tis icy out in dublin but nothing that hopefully won't be gone by 10am

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,920 ✭✭✭Vélo

I'll throw the bike in the car and head to the park unless I hear it isn't on.

I'm not sure if there'll be much of a thaw out there today as the temperatures aren't forecast to increase much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,509 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

    Very frosty here too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,400 ✭✭✭Caroline_ie
