Well done this will be a great fight.

I'm not trolling here but it was stated on here in either October or november that mc connell had left SFT under less than amicable circumstances I am just looking to clarify that he is now back with SFT

Dom has been back training with Conor and John for almost a month now, I seen him at the NI BJJ open and he was looking quite sharp. This fight should be a real war!!

Well I'm glad to hear he's back with SFT even though I'm not domz biggest fan he does have talent an can go far so hopefully last year will have taught him a big lesson an he can get back to doing what he's meant to. I haven't seen myles prices live but have seen some videos this promises to be fight of the night.

I thought Damo Rooney had gone to the states to fight? Is he back now or is this just a 1 of fight back here?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 57 ✭✭UC Newry

Got talking to Damo on Friday there after he was home. One of the arrangements he made with th HIT Squad was that he wanted to travel back and forth for the first while and continue to take fights in Ireland and the UK in order to keep his experience up instead of having to wait on fights. Unfortunately his fight got pulled for the start of February and he got another offer for the middle of March but he was already booked to come home February 17th!

    Why? serious question.
shows can be boring enough without 15 mins of a break, even when entertainment is put on its not what people come to see, I know as a coach or fighter its just a waste of time imo.

We need this time to set up the production stuff for the Setanta filming.

We will be moving the semi pro fights through a bit quicker with no delays, so in reality there will be no change in timings for the pro card.

Surely they will be set up for hours before the event, they are professionals after all, The same break was had on all the other cage contenders and there was no setanta then so are ya sure your not just sticking with a used formula?

I can understand a break on a show with a small number of fights but not on a big show that is not looking to extend the time of the event.

    No, not the case!!

As I have said, the televised pro show will be shot in the same style as a live show. During the 15 minutes is when they will film the opening intros etc. This is standard practice for this type of recording!

We have indeed had breaks at all our events, even with these breaks we have still always been finished before our planned time at 11 o clock. With this in mind we are starting the show at 7pm sharp to ensure that we don't run over
    time

Also after the last Cage Contender we had a few comments about not being able to see the fights when they went to ground, to solve that problem there will be 2 15ft bigscreens showing all the action

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 DamoUp

The two big screens will be a definite bonus, they allow everyone to see exactly what is going on at all times.

I know as a fighter you just want to get to your fight and get in the cage but I think a 15 minute break is fine as long as you move through the fights on both the undercard and main bill at a good pace. It allows the spectators time for a toilet break without missing the action!

What happened to Myles Price, he was scheduled to fight Dom McConnell was he not?

Myles has picked up an injury, but we hope to have that fight on our Dublin show (July 24th)

Just to clear things up bout joe Clarke, he rang me yesterday morning with a bit of a situation which was just put til him. He's out working refurbishing a night club he works in and the owner offered him another 10 days work for very good money. This would mean working long hours and no training up to and including the day he was supposed to fight on uc. He asked me to ring damo and colins coach rodney would it be possible to move the fight back few weeks for cage contender show cause he knows it's going to be a great fight and both have trained hard for it.
I rang both damo and rodney and told them the situation and both were brilliant about it. Obviously damo is disapointed but understands. It's not just bout money, joe it's going to hit squad for 6 weeks on 20th may and that extra cash would keep him there for extra month. As a very talented hard working 18 year old who has massive potential I felt that extra month training with the top guys in America would really benefit joes career and that's how we came to the decision.
The ultimate conflict shows are one of the best shows to be involved in and would like to thank them and john at cage contender for dealing with our requests so understanding and professionally.
