What are the benefits of the EPAS thing?

I went on-line and did not find anything about it. Can someone tell me more about it and the benefits of it please.

You can find information on EPAS here - http://www.efmd.org/index.php/accreditation-/epas-

It is effectively a quality assurance process for academic programmes.

can anyone help me choose between the msc in business management in DCU or the Msc in Business and Entrepreneurship in dit? any help would be hugely appreciated!

I can't speak for the DIT course but the DCU course has been running for over 7 years and had a good record of bringing non-business graduates up to a fairly high level of business competency and in to the workplace. Graduates from the programme have gone in to a wide variety of sectors and functions. Background and experience are valued and indeed MSc in Business Management students share classes and work with MBS in Marketing and MSc in E-commerce students to expose this and get exposed to different people and skills.

The MSc in Business Management has a lot of applied skills exposure with 3-4 live client assignments.

extremely unlikely to find someone on Boards.ie who has undertaken both courses and therefore be in a position to make a fair comparison.

a lot depends on who else attends the course in the year you attend ( the network you form from your masters year is v.important ) and as such is pretty much an unknown factor until you take the course.

It is also unlikely that you will get impartial advice from anyone who has taken either course ( no-one in their right mind is going to talk down their course )

As an aspiring business manager or entrepreneur ultimately you need the cojones to make the decision yourself ( it may be a long time before you will know whether your was a good one )

tbh proximity of the college to where I lived would be a deciding factor for me.

if you are looking at doing the masters for future employment reasons( as opposed to entreprenuerial reasons..i.e. you have a business idea and you want the know how to how to market and commercialise it ) then the fact that you have achieved a masters will be enough to demonstrate to a future employer that you are capable of putting the work in to achieve a masters.

    regards,

    Gollem

Any chance to be selected if i apply in July ?...

I graduated in international economics with more than 65%, and as far as i've read online, this is in adequation with the required qualification to enter onto the MSc.

Problem is, I will have to take the TOEFL test, as i am french, and i won't get the results before this date (end of june / begining of july)...
Can i send my application before i get the results ?
Or, better, do i have to pass the test ? Can't i attest my level with the grades i get in english modules ?

I am really interested in it, so if theolynn or anyone else that know a little about this program can answer me i would really appreciate.

Also, does anyone know about any scholarship for foreign students in ireland ?

    Thank you very much !

    A.

Yes, you should be eligible even if you apply in July but I am not sure I understand why you can't apply sooner - any offer would merely be contingent on meeting any application requirements e.g. the offer might be subject to submission of evidence of English language competencies (as outlined at http://www.dcu.ie/registry/english.shtml). So yes, you can apply before you get the TOEFL results. If you are still concerned, contact the DCU Registry.

    Good Luck!

Thank you Theo for your answer !
I've applied as soon as i could and i've taken the TOEFL this morning... Now I just have to wait !
Hope i could see you next year on the DCU campus.

The 2009/10 class are employed by many different companies (big and small) including:

    - Google
    - PayPal
    - Facebook
    - Accenture
    - Deloitte Technology Consulting (UK)
    - BWG
    - Paddy Power
    - Bearing Point
    - Butlers Bingo
    - Talentevo
    - First Derivatives
    - Elverys Online
    - e-Consultancy (UK)

Google, Accenture, E&Y, Paddy Power and others have already taken students from the 2010/11 even though they haven't got their results for Semester 2 yet.

We have even hired a few in DCU ; )

Have many gained such employment as a percentage, very roughly? Would you have to get a First or do many graduates with Second Class degree get into high profile companies too?

I can't remember exact stats but there was about 62 graduates from MECB and only c. 10% got firsts so the vast majority got second class or general awards and nearly all have jobs (or are travelling). The "high profile" companies hire all standards of award. I understand that the amount of live projects people undertook really stood by them when it came to recruitment.

Thanks, sounds like a decent course so... So for example if you achieved Second Class and wanted a job could you nearly safely say you were more or less guaranteed a job?

There are no guarantees in life but that would be a minority scenario based on current data.

    Hello All,

Just enquiring, i have submitted my simple application on PAC but noticed there was no option to include my personal statement etc.

So do i just post my personal statement to PAC or can i email it to DCU course admissions. It is a bit complicated as i am in the States at the moment.

    Thanks in advance.

You should be able to upload your personal statement to PAC - email them if you have a problem. Personal Statements are important in case you are a borderline decision. You should give the Programme Chair as much info as possible.

Some great info on the course in here. (thinking of doing it for the upcoming academic year)

Is there anyone who posted in here (or viewed the thread), who went ahead and started the course care to share their experiences good, bad and indifferent?

Could anyone tell me how many hours a week there is in this course (including group meetings etc as well as lectures)? I have a fairly long commute and I'm wondering if it would be better to move up near DCU if I will be doing long days 9-5 most of the time?

    Hi Phoenix 10,

I graduated from the course in 2011 and it's safe to say you'll be doing much longer days than 9-5 particularly in November/December, April/May & August. Feel free to PM me if you want to know more about the course.
