So apparently Martin McAleese has come up with this great idea...we come up with the ideas to get us out of the doldrums and this recession of ours.

So if you have any good ideas the website is here

If however you want to see Brian Cowen getting nailed in the knackers you can always vote for this proposal

    Enjoy,
    Pyridine!

I'm not really sure what this thread is all about. But Martin McAleese did my teeth and the dude is a legend. Best dentist I ever went to by a long way!

Wow this is a brilliant idea, how did you hear about this website?

Boards should sticky this and stick it on the front page, sure just think of all the good ideas floating around this place, think of all the times you have used boards to ask questions that you couldnt find the answers for elsewhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,467 ✭✭✭Wazdakka

    This...Could actually work..

Quick get it the hell out of AH before it gets destroyed..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭Hank_Jones

    Yeah...kicking him in the balls...

That's bound to get us out of the recession...

Now, if there was a charge and anyone who wanted to could have a go, that might do it.
Could be quite the money maker.

so the government have setup a website to steal ideas off people, or exploit peoples ideas for their own benefit?

How original, just need to give them your bank details to sign up I suppose

They've run out of brown envelopes, so you'll get a virtual bribe instead of hard cash for a good idea.

    Not really...

Where has the support for Your Country, Your Call come from?

In the spirit of Your Country, Your Call, the website, competition, design, project management, technology, advertising & media, decision making panels, television production & programming, prizefund, and implementation funds have all been provided for fully by Irish and non-Irish corporations, as well as a small number of Irish firms and individuals, in a huge demonstration of social responsibility. Your Country, Your Call also has the support of the Government of Ireland.

If the Government weren't supporting the idea there would be people moaning too

The government are the elected people of Ireland... This is just the elected people of Ireland asking for ideas from the unelected people of Ireland

The "government" aren't some alien organisation, they are just people that have been elected to represent an electorate.

    Seriously....

i really couldnt be arsed registering for the site etc but my suggestion would be to make prisoners do some work while in prison, anything at all even cleaning up roadways parks etc.
Let them do something for the cost to the state of imprisoning them, trials, the judiciary etc.
In the U.S. they even make things like license plates

I've never had much time for McAleese. As a person born and raised in a foreign country, I don't think she has any place being president.

However, I think this is a real step in the right direction and there are already some good ideas there: extending the artists exemption to computer game development and the motorway afforestation program being my favourites so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,743 ✭✭✭funk-you

I think Boards should enter an official proposal. Where else could you find such a huge collection of people from different walks of life who can discuss and debate ideas in a mostly civilised manner with a common goal.

    Make a forum Dev...

Increasing number of forecourts are closing down and jobs lost and one of the main reasons is an increasing number of drive offs. One way of stamping every one of them out is by introducing mandatory pre pay for fuel transactions which won’t let you pump the fuel before you pay.

Surely the reason they are closing is the very small profit margins in
fuel and the fact that there is stations everywhere and all cars plates are recorded anyway.

The current most supported idea on the site is to make unemployed people work for their welfare payments..

typical bloody Irish thinking.. the whole point of the website is to gather ideas on how to create sustainable jobs, not dictatorial notions of how to punish people who were made redundant through no fault of their own

Am I right in thinking some initiative similar to this was already run last year? I can't quite recall the title they had for the body but remember seeing a feature on it on Prime Time one night.

We seemed to have a big hoo haa this time last year with 'Campaign Ideas' which had some prominent and well educated peeps behind it. I checked that site yesterday and they're seemed to be little updates on it - is YCYC just another spin on the same thing?

I'm not knocking it, just like the rest on here, I want to see an end to all the doom and gloom without delay

    Waste of time.
What happened due to the last internet campaign / website for new ideas in Ireland ?
    Nothing.
Pity no journalist asked about that at the launch of this guff.

Its a good idea. But what about a person who was earning say €50,000 & they are now on the dole. What if they come up with an idea? The person only gets €100,000, which is only 2 years salary.

The terms & the conditions state that you wavie all your rights away?

Surely if you dream up an idea, surely you want to become part of that idea?

    Is this wrong?

Can you have any part in the dream?

Or do you have any rights after the project?

They give you half a million euro to help develop your idea if it's chosen, I'd imagine a team would be assigned to oversee it but you'd probably still be part of it

even if you weren't though, the 100,000 prize is a good trade-off

Very simple idea, everyone who can afford it buy as much useless crap as we used to. I'm talking hdtvs, new cars, eat out the whole time, blu ray players and all that and we'll buy our way out of the recession.

Our we'll turn the whole country into a giant lepruchan theme park for all the tourists and make a mint. All we need is 4 million red wigs and a f*ck load of aran jumpers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭billy the squid

It is the same crap floating around a different toilet.

Ideas campaign was pretty pointless endeavour as is this. Also have a look at section 7 of the terms and conditions. I think I will keep ownership of any idea I have thank you very much.

it seems to have generated into farce anyway. By far the most votes went to the Resource Based Economy (about 8,000+) which the author sees as being based on the Venus project.
They took it down, and the top "idea" now is not just a joke, it's an epic joke - save the HSE millions, woooh millions how ambitious, the debt is measure in billions FYI.
There are umpteen things the government could do without any money that are vastly more ambitious than "save the HSE millions" A new national disgrace. I propose that the original authors of the RBE submission do a bit more homework, and come with a submission on how to create a pilot RBE project that could grow and some day, in the future grow into a full fledged RBE for the whole country. Anyway,s it's still a disgrace that they wiped democracy clear.

    It's gotta be this one:
Link every home in Ireland with broadband using fast fibre optic cable link

    Come ON.

Unfortunately it has been proved that Your Country Your Call is a FRAUD. A Resource Based Economy submitted by Paul Clarke and was accepted. In about 1 month's time, there were over 8,300 supports of this proposal. There was about 1,000 comments for this proposal. yourcountryyourcall removed the RBE proposal without any reason or explanation. It seems the self appointed guardians of the status quo already have their mind made up....

    Read more about it here:

PS. whois indicates the domain is coming from the AIB HQ server in Ballsbridge.

I think that site got hijacked. It was still nice to see such strong support for the Resource Based Economy proposal. Irish people can't be accused of not being ready for something entirely different despite the attempt to make it appear as such. To be fair, the RBE proposal is a bit out of touch with reality. It's too distinct from the plastic system we have today. Maybe in a few decades or a thousand years (depending on your opinion) something like that could happen. I'm ready for it now, but that's easy for me to say. I have no power! but yeah, scum rises to the top - just go to your local canal and see for yourself.

What is disturbing to me is the obviousness that it's been hijacked. Of the top 10 + ideas, only 2 seem to be lacking in ambition or require no real change. Guess which ones they are? The 2 proposals with the most support of course! It's completely rigged. I'm just annoyed I didn't see it coming.

They shouldn't have removed the RBE proposal outright.. they say themselves that each idea will be weighed on it's own merits and the final decision is down to a panel, so regardless of how many votes it had, it wouldn't have won anyway.

All they did by deleting it was show that they're only willing to accommodate ideas which they already have and support. They're even deleting comments from people asking about why exactly the RBE proposal was removed. It's a total sham, and I actually had some faith in the initiative when it was launched first.. guess I was just naive to thing that they wouldn't censure things that don't fit in with their idea of 'bettering' the country

you can't overthrow your masters overnight. A tax-free zone should be created in this country. That would be a start. Offload cheap commercial property, land for this from NAMA, according to certain conditions. There needs to be more realism.
