I would say these TV's are going to be the business. The V10 came second in a poll over on AVForums for TV of the decade. It's a smashing set that no LCD I have seen can compete with. The V20 is likely to be even better so I would imagine Panasonic are going to sell a lot of them. They are also meant to be incorporating Pioneer Kuro technology which should mean the blacks are the deepest and most inky going!!

More info on all the 2010 range and pricing:
    http://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1266224400.

I'm hoping to see more sizes during the year. A 46" model would be ideal in the V20 model range.

The prices are interesting too. That's what I was interested in finding out.

    Suggested retail
    TX-P42V20E (42”) 1700 Euro
    TX-P50V20E (50”) 2100 Euro

    TX-P42G20E (42”) 1200 Euro
    TX-P46G20E (46”) 1450 Euro
    TX-P50G20E (50”) 1650 Euro

I'm actually thinking that the P42G20E looks better value as the only differences here between it and the V series are USB WiFi (WiFi dongle included) and Digital Cinema Colour. Seems a lot for 500 Euro.

unfortunately we're not getting the G20 series in ireland.

    for ireland its:

    x20 - 37", 42" & 50" hd ready plasma 100hz
    s20 - 42" & 50" full hd plasma 600hz (like the g10)
    v20 - 50" 600hz as v20 above**
    vt20 - 50" full hd 3d

**no mention of a 42" yet for ireland so fingers crossed. but what they are having for ireland in a "premium" 42" is the TX-L42D25L lcd.... hmmmm

Unbelievable!! I've been following this closely the last few days. Waiting to pounce on the G20 as soon as the first reviews came in. Prices looked good in Euro vs Sterling, so I figured I'd be supporting one of the local shops. Not a chance now.

If this is true, I'm sorry to say, but Panasonic Ireland has lost me as a customer.....unless the 42V20 drops to around €1,400

    Edited to continue rant:

This is from Phil Hilton from avforums:

"The G20 is really a killer product from what we have seen and although it uses slightly different filter and black level driving, it still produces a black level that in my opinion is still close to the VT/V20 models, just a slightly reduced contrast look. But it still trounces every LCD (and LCD LED) I have seen for image contrast and uniformity and motion and probably every other plasma in its price range (we have yet to see the LG in the flesh) on what we have seen so far. Added to this it also has accurate image quality from the THX certification and picture mode this year and it really starts to hit the right spots to become a classic core plasma model for the mass market. AND it also has ISFccc as well! Plus all the other added content streaming etc... This to me is the most promising model for the mass market and people wanting what Pioneer used to do at a fraction of the price. I really want to get one next to our reference Kuros and just see how far the G20 gets, and that will happen soon hopefully.

Plus all the new screens from G20 up have new video processing onboard, so fingers crossed that the slight issues of scaling and de-interlacing seen on the 2009 sets is sorted for this year. Plus with all new panels and drivers its likely that the issues of raised blacks that are affecting a hndful of users will not be seen on these models.

It been a while since myself and David were excited by any movement in plasma development (probably the last Kuro launch was when we were last impressed so much with new screens). As you know we never pass judgement on stuff until we have tested the hind legs off it, but what we can say is we are itching to get these panels in the testing rooms and get started on measuring and testing them fully. Are we going to see the most accurate Plasmas yet? Let's just say the signs are very promising on what we have seen so far and it looks like another good jump in plasma quality."

How in gods name can they leave this range out from Ireland? Budget to expensive; no middle ground. Doesn't make any sense to me. Was any reason given for this decision?

Unbelievable we wont be offered the G20 in this country! That will surely be the biggest seller on the UK but it wont even be available here! Madness!

Hope there'll be no issues with the DTT compatibility now this year but the inclusion of the DVB-T2 tuner in the G20/V20 may put that to bed i guess?

exactly, fingers crossed! that'll be my first thing to check:D

and they also have a new bluray recorder (and dvd recorders) with the mpeg4 tuner so that should be the business.

I finally bit the bullet and bought the TX-P42G20 from Seamus Watters in Armagh. €1025 delivered to Dublin. They're excellent to deal with too.

it seems its true that this tv isnt coming into the irish market at all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,985 ✭✭✭big_moe

that was always the case. its a UK only model which means Panasonic Ireland will not be doing it. Some shops will only deal with panasonic Ireland but certain shops have sourced them from Panasonic UK, albeit with a delay compared to other UK based dealers.

    Hi
I put a deposit on panasonic 50 inch g20 on sat in seamus watters and I'm paying the balance on delivery. They were very helpful. Very reasonable for the 50inch (€1350). The s20 down here is going to be €1300! He gave me a discount on the alphason tv stand aswell. All I have to do now is wait as the 50 inch G20 is not over til next week.

    Hi,
Just wondering if the freeview option will allow us here in Ireland to pick up rte etc when it switches to digital via an aerial. Is this the MPEG4 compatability discussed earlier. I know the freesat allows us to pick up BBC etc via sat dish. Also any idea what the difference is between the V20 and the G20 in lay mans terms. I'm not that tecky.

    Five years.

It's the standard guarantee (1yr I think) but I was told every year panasonic for a period give free 5yr warranty with their tv's. Seamus watters himself told me that they will redate my receipt so I'm covered for 5 yrs. My boss in work recommended seamus watters. He did the same for him last year and he received notice from panasonic to say he has a 5yr warranty.

Freeview is a UK standard, but basically the fact that it has an MPEG4 Digital terrestrial tuner should mean that it can pick up the Irish digital channels.
I have last years model, the G10, and I already am receiving the Digital terrestrial broadcast. I purchased in Ireland because I wanted the terrestrial channels, but last year the UK G10 couldn't (wouldn't) decode the Irish ones. Not sure what the story with the UK G20's though, maybe someone with a G20 can try this out?

I attached a rabbit ear aerial (€19 in Argos) onto my 42" G20, did a quick scan for the Irish channels using the DVB tuner and two minutes later was absolutely amazed at the result. OMG , the quality was so good it nearly made the Poseidon remake look watchable .

I bought a digiTop SLX Gold for €19.99 in Argos (the non-amplified version). Its not pretty and I normally use it for watching stuff on the PC upstairs.

The G20 isn't an Irish model so it's a lot harder to get, that's why very few stores actually sell them. You could try the Panasonic Centre in Limerick. Otherwise I think it's over the border unfortunately.

What about Seamus Watters? Are they to be trusted?
