Yeah, I'm not sure what the story with Sagnol being there is. Maybe they're still paying him?
The club names are all in Italian.

He makes half a million a month and took a pay cut to come to the club and has recently enough signed a new contract.

Does anybody know the crack with players wages btw? When a player is offered a contract of, say, 100k a week, is that gross or net? Or does it vary from club to club?

If it's the latter, I feel even sicker.

On the contenent they agree deals based on net pay so if tax goes u there wages stay the same in England it's based on gross pay

i can understand that for Robinho or Adebayor, or Tevez, but Wayne Bridge? Its not like a host of top european clubs would have been clammering to take him in. Good player no doubt, but he'd have been on half the wages, if even, at any other club. Madness for a guy who hadn't played regular first team football in years.

And the wrong one at that Pepe, its when you see a list like that you appreciate the genius that is Wenger for what he has continually achieved at Arsenal.

it's a strange one alright maybe it was the only way to get him to leave chelsea?

it would fascinating to know how much he was on at Chelsea thou

Man City truly are shmucks! Kind of sickening how much money is in football. Bunch of overpaid tossers. Most of them give nothing back to the community which is what sport is supposed to be about.

Man City probably pay their ball boys more than Burnley's senior players!

True but they've won nothing of interest in three years and the majority of Arsenal supporters will agree that you have to splash the cash to an extent in order to compete for the top trophies ala Utd and Chelsea.

Please clarify. Do you mean the football community or the local community, because if it's the latter then you haven't a breeze.

Very true. Lots of players give up a fair bit of their time to do charity work and visit local hospitals and such.

I am talking about the community in general. I'm not saying there are no football players who are charitable but most of them give **** all back. I'm not talking about turning up at the odd charity event. I'm talking financially.

How many of those top 50 earners donated 100,000 plus (pittance to those) to the Haiti appeal or a similar charity organization?

There are some who give plenty back, Craig Bellamy set up an academy in Africa and financed it himself. Shay Given, Niall Quinn and Zidane have done lots of great work.

Most of them do **** all. In my opinion, anyone who makes that kind of money is morally obliged to give some back.

I believe the tax in Italy is the higher than in England or Spain. Serie A players pay 50% tax I think.

Shame the rest don't follow - anyone on that sort of income should be paying at least that

How many of them clowns would make it into your top 50 players? 2 or 3 maybe? The Bayern wages are staggering for a club that hasn't really challenged for the CL for a few years.

In fairness Sagnol was a great player. Franck is a moany oul one these days. We'll see his worth tomorrow against Fiorentina.

Toni.. well he's off to Roma where hopefully he'll stay ;)

I'm just surprised at the wages he was getting. You would think players like Van Bommel, Klose or Lahm would be getting more than him.

Van Bommel only does well when he wants to. TBH I would be looking for Bayern to replace him. Good captain, not a CL winner though. Klose is on/off too... he strikes well when he needs to but not often enough. He's not in the first-team rotation anymore. That's Gomez/Olic... and Lahm. I would pay him more, he's always consistent in his play and never exposes his corner of the pitch!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,526 ✭✭✭m@cc@

Seems to be professional as well, playing a right back only because Bayern don't have a right back and no one else is as adaptable.
