i've been playing CODMW2 for the last three months, not a lot but maybe for 4 or 5 hours a week. My big problem is that i just don't seem to be getting any better at it, I'd have thought I'd start picking up stuff by now but haven't at all.

I still really like playing it but obviously would like it a bit more if I wasn't getting demolished repeatedly.

I play with the Scar-H silenced, have the heartbeat sensor but found that too distracting. Averaging about 3 or 4 kills a game but getting wiped out about 19 to 20 times. I play mainly domination and headquarters pro.

    Any helpful tips?
try play search n destroy on hardcore , you get made points for a few kills, personally id never use silencer on core as you need almost a full mag with the scar h. plus try unlock extended mags.some really good tips here

Kaos Theory: Some great tips there. And nicely put together. :) I've a few other bits and pieces to add that are kind of linked to what you mentioned.

    Flash/Stun grenades
    5. Flash'em

Maybe these were intended/implied in your post, or possibly they are something that's an addition to what you meant. Anyway, here are two other tips for Stun/Flash grenades.

    1.
Learn what a hit marker sounds like, and utilise the flash/stun equipment with them in mind. Basically, it is the noise you hear if one of your bullets hit an enemy but don't do enough to kill them. My point though is that you also hear it when you stun/flash someone. So you can blind throw a stun grenade around a corner or into a room, and if there is someone there, you'll hear the hit-marker noise. This lets you know if an area is clear or not.

So they are useful not just when you can see someone and are looking to gain advantage on them by ducking into cover and throwing a stun grenade. If you are moving into an area, throw in a stun first and see if you get a hit marker.

This becomes really handy if you are using scavenger, as you are keeping a regular supply of them. However, just beware that anyone who spotted the grenade being thrown, whether they got hit or not, also knows you are there so can spring a trap. But it's still a very handy method of detection.

    2.
A Flash or Stun imparts 5 damage. An enemy on Last Stand has 1HP remaining until they heal. So since they can still shoot and kill you in Last Stand, throw a Stun/Flash in their direction and let it kill them without risking yourself.

    Air Support
    7. Hostile Air.

FFS shoot it down as quickly as possible, no arguments, just do it. Nobody likes getting taken out by a chopper and the balance of a game can quickly shift because you and your team are ignoring the guy in the sky.

Again, it's probably implied, but just to clarify. YES!! Shoot at AirSupport to take it out, but only with something like the Stinger or Javelin. I don't know how many times I've come across guys scoped in with their Assault rifle shooting away. Unless you are boosting your Cold Blooded stats by shooting at a helicopter that is on it's way down, it is a totally useless exercise (I've explained this at the end). Apart from the fact that you are not paying attention to the area around you for enemies, allowing people to sneak up on you; you are also letting them know exactly where you are by lighting up on the mini-map as a lovely bright red dot.

And in case you weren't sure, here's the maths to prove my point. I've used a plain SCAR for this example, which deals 40 damage per bullet.

    Attack Helicopter and Chopper Gunner
Each have 1500HP. Chopper Gunner has one defensive flare.
They decrease bullet damage by 0.3x all the time.
    40 * 0.3 = 12 damage per bullet.
So it'll take 125 bullets from a plain SCAR to take down the choppers (presuming you are within range to hit it).

    Pave Low
3000 HP and 1 defensive flare.
Also decreases bullet damage by 0.3x so SCAR does 12 per bullet.
    250 bullets needed.

    Harrier
The single harrier that hovers, has 3000HP.
It decreases bullet damage by 0.5x so SCAR does 20 per bullet.
So it takes 150 bullets to take down with a plain SCAR.

Now you might be thinking, 125 bullets isn't too bad, and you mightn't get someone sneaking up on you. Well add in the fact that basically it is more bullets than you have in one life, and it becomes less appealing imho. Also, more imporantly, the AI Air Support decides on who it targets using the following threat factors:
Distance from Helicopter - All players get threat based on distance from chopper. The max distance is pretty far.
Has attacked Helicopter - Anyone who has attacked the helicopter gets threat
Player Score - Highest scoring player in view gets most threat.

Whoever has the highest combined threat from these four factors will be the helicopter's Primary Target.
The bit in bold is the important part. If you are shooting at the AirSupport, it is more likely to target you back. Presuming you don't have Cold Blooded as Perk 2, lets assume you might get a full clip of 30 bullets shot before it kills you. That works out at four deaths before you can take down the Harrier and Helicopters, and 8 to take down the Pave Low!!

So instead either die once and swap class to shoot with a Stinger, or just wait indoors for it to fly away. The Chopper/AC130 last for 40 seconds, the Harrier for 45 and the Pavelow and Attack Heli for 60 seconds.

(I know that Stopping Power Pro deals extra damage to vehicles also. But your scar with SPP deals 56 Damage, which reduces to 17 using the 0.3x multiplier. This still means over 88 bullets. Without ColdBlooded, that is still a minimum of 2 deaths, with probably more)

    PaveLow v Chopper Gunner
I know this doesn't have to be a choice between the two, as I've started running with a 7-9-11 killstreak recently, but this is a common enough choice as a final Killstreak Reward.

Here's why I probably break what is the norm in my experience, and usually go for the PaveLow over the Chopper Gunner 99% of the time.

    PaveLow v ChopperGunner
    3000HP v 1500HP
    1 flare v 1 flare
    60 seconds v 40 seconds
    9 kills needed v 11 kills.

The way I see it this breaks down into three major benefits

    1. The PaveLow is easier to get. If you use the Harrier, and are patient with placing the target zone on the laptop, you can often get the two required kills straight away. But at the least you should get one, and then the 3rd Harrier usually will get one at least. So there is your PaveLow straightaway. In contrast, you have to get 4 kills with the Harriers to get the Chopper. It used to be a guarantee, but this certainly isn't the case anymore, as the CarePackage Glitchers have people a lot more aware of having Stinger classes equipable.

    2. It lasts longer if not shot down and has better defense to prevent getting shot down. So by my reckoning, more air time = more kills.

    3. You get to walk around the map while it's doing it's work in the air killing and distracting them. Here's where I often get to kill guys shooting at it with their Assault Rifles.

Lastly a fairly minor benefit. If you run with a 5-7-9 killstreak, it's your last reward. So unless you want to protect a flawless, you can die and start building your next kill streak while it's in the air. I don't mean that it's kills will count, but that it is still distracting the enemy while you are wandering around on the ground.

In favour of the Chopper Gunner, I know on an open map you can Spawn Trap the enemy and sometimes get 10+ kills. However, i've not often done this other than on Wasteland. Also, I know you can control it and can shoot in doorways to take people out. But as a further negative, I've often had experiences where I've struggled to get many kills due to the way it banks around in the air. In contrast, I've rarely struggled to get more than 5-10 kills with the PaveLow, and often way more than that.

I'm welcome to suggestions on this last point, as anything I'm missing with the Chopper will be gratefully taken on board to better my kill rate. :)

In relation to the ColdBlooded boosting I mentioned above, it relates to if you see a helicopter that has been shot with a Stinger etc, but not blown up fully. It is basically on its way to crash out of the game. Apparently if you shoot at it with your Assault Rifle, every bullet you land goes towards your ColdBlooded Pro challenge. I haven't actually gotten to try this myself, so I'm going on stuff I've read, but it is pretty much accepted as fact. I presume you have to have the perk ColdBlooded applied also, but can't confirm this. This is about the only form of boosting that I don't have a problem with, because I'm not affecting anyone elses game directly. The Helicopter is not killing anyone anymore, so you're not preventing someone getting kills. And it doesn't affect the score of the game. So no real harm done imho.

    [edit]
I've just had a re-read of this, and realised my maths was wrong. Scar only does 40 points of base damage, rather than the 50 I put down here. It strenghtens my point, as it's even harder to Assault Rifle shoot down air support.

Go to the menu and set the sensitivity to 10. Its so important! I would highly reccomend the famas with red dot/holographic. Other than that try and explore the levels a bit more, once you get to know them youll be able to pick off campers etc..

    Best of luck lad

Not sure what system you play on, but for a beginner I wouldn't advise this at all going by my experience on the 360. Certainly try to gradually increase the sensitivity up a bit from the default of 2, but very few players can play on 10. I think I'm on 4 myself, and stayed at 3 for a while. Might move to 5 at some point, but am working okay on 4 so far.

One possible tip is that if you are calling in a Chopper Gunner, lower the sensitivity to 1. Supposedly this makes it easier to control. Just heard that on a YouTube video yesterday and haven't had a chance to test, but it makes good sense. I find the camera can be very jumpy at times, so a reduction to 1 would smooth that out a bit.

@Shawpower, thanks for that, had no idea about some of the killstreaks stuff but will definitely start applying your info. Like I said, am only playing COD a few weeks so lapping up the info in this thread. :D

Lol, there should be an exam to pass before being allowed use VOIP in games, it could be multiple choice to make it easier for some people, example of a question could be:

Which of the following is not acceptable topics of conversation while playing TDM?
    A. The location of the sniper that just killed you.
    B. Co-ordination of a storming an enemy-held building from multiple entry points.
    C. Why does it hurt when you pee after you slept with that skanky bird last weekend.

Answer too many questions wrongly and your VOIP ability is automatically disabled. :p

No probs. Check out this site: http://denkirson.xanga.com/715966769/modern-warfare-2/

It's where I checked all this info out from. I came across it ages ago when Woody posted it as his first video. Quality, if somewhat nerdy, info on it.

Totally agree. But I don't ever mass mute people unless they are

    a) talking in French/German etc
    b) singing to themselves/snorting their noses/screaming like a little girl, while in the lobby.

Very occasionally you'll come across someone (like me or the guys I play with) who call out useful info, and it's hugely beneficial. MassMuting or setting it to friends only prevents this. I find that although I don't play Domination as much as I used to, I still use the three flag locations to determine where people are on the map if I'm calling it out.

Shawpower, you've got too much time on your hands!

I mass mute people if they are retarded and/or speaking in language other than english. Calling out the would be 'flag locations' to each other when playing TDM is very handy. Good inter-team communication is hugely beneficial. Also if you are on a team, always helps is someone uses an anti-airsupport class e.g. cold blooded with stinger or javelin.
