Do you actually care what everyone else benches, or did you just want to tell us what you bench?

He's a registered member here two years now, I very much doubt it he's only decided now to come on just to brag.

Well done OP, I'm not into power lifting myself and its been years since I've lay under a bar as all my pressing in the last ten years has mostly been with dumb bells.

There are some genuine posters here who will be interested in your lifts, so keep it up and like Transformer said - get a video up for the lads, its not for the nah sayers (above) to poke fun @ you.

I can't see any point to this thread other than bragging / ego-stroking

And if he does genuinely want to know what others on this site bench, there are a load of fitness logs on here, the majority of people bench, so its not that hard to find out.

And would it have killed you to be decent to the bloke instead of giving a smart arsed reply.

Its a fitness forum for crying out load. At times its a pretty damned close knit forum too (for shame), it wouldn't harm this place if newbies could ask a genuine question without fear of ridicule & rebuke.

I bet most of us here could look back at time's past and find some truely scringe worthy crap we've posted.

As a question - how is it accepted that you can 'bench' a certain weight?

i.e. is it 1rep x taking the bar from the starting position, to the chest, to having the arms fully extended, to the starting position again?

Podge hasn't the best bench press.:D

It wasn't smart-arsed - I just don't see the point of this thread - it's not going to help anyone improve or learn anything.

that chart you put up seems pretty damn crap if you ask me, im between a novice and intermediate, elite is only 380 ish ffs. to me at 225 your not elite if your benching under 450

Comparing your lift / any other ability to other people is just natural curiosity and in some cases competitive spirit. Both of which can lead one to improving themselves in what ever they do.

    Good work OP.

So you post in every thread which you deem pointless?.

And who are you to decide what threads/questions are pointless or not?.

Mairt i can see his point tbh, one of these threads pops up every now and then, and there always seems to be alot of eflexin going on.

    ontopic.

i benched 87.5kg in competition with a pause
89.5kg in the gym with a pause.
    i weigh 100-ish

You more than make up for it with your squat and dead lift.I've shorter arms, so my bench is easier compared to yours :)

who cares ignore the thread then

if he actually does put up a video with a perfect form bench at the weight he says i bet you wont be so quick to jump down his throat

jesus, take the stick out your arse will ya, i never claimed his was fake, i never said he was lying. i even posted my stats!

edit: just saw my original post, made a bit of a typo

if you have a problem with another poster it might be better to report it to a mod, because your last post was basically a take down of another poster.

back OT, IMO the thread is pointless as it wont help anyone improve on their bench, there is no video or proof, and the OP clearly wanted to bost about their category.

I'm not sure they are referring specifically to powerlifting.
If you read the definitions, the elite level refers to people competing in strength sports, not people competing at the elite level in strength sports.

    If that makes sense......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,462 ✭✭✭cardio, shoot me

i still wouldnt consider anything under a 2bw bench elite, regardless

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭Barry.Oglesby

Riiiiiight. So a Sprinter, GAA player or Rugby player would have to bench twice their bodyweight to be an elite athlete?

Step back for a moment and look at your keyboard before answering again.

I've seen a load of "how much do you bench threads" on different forums, and nothing productive ever comes out of them. That is why I think this thread is pointless, and I'm pretty sure I'm entitled to that opinion

You posted a link that shows your body weight and what a good press would be for that weight but it doesnt show any weight for a 75kg man!!

And while the tape is out for the d**k measuring, i can do 120kg 3 times

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,549 ✭✭✭Noffles

    Weight 82k
Bench 120+... did 130 last summer but would struggle now.

    cardio,shoot me

Not everyone likes to eat like a slob and lift heavy stuff trying to get a 2xbw bench.

The law of diminishing returns.Sometimes in "sport" having a 2xbw bench is not very wise or desirable and is a waste of time.Training for muscular strength and endurance in a manner that will improve performnace, not to lift ever larger weights....Athletes need a balance.

its an ELITE bench, theres a reason it should be elite, its not meant to be easy to get, i never said a 2bw bench was needed to be a elite athlete, but for a bench to be considered Elite it should be 2bw, imo.

im not saying you cant be an elite athlete without one.

edit: look at the link, its not what an elite rugby player should be benching , its an elite bench press, they arent the same thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,802 ✭✭✭bluefinger

usually 10kg including the bar, if i'm feeling particularly meatheaded i'll pump it up to 15.

    It actually does.

You just have to convert from pounds to Kg's.
    And back.

That's not directed at the OP either.

OP there's a Fitness Logs forum, you can get an idea of what everyone lifts there.
