Just a random observation but I reckon there's something seriously gone wrong when a person's sig is about 10 times the size of their actual post.

I reckon that's more of an observation on the person post.

Why has something seriously gone wrong? Does a person always need to post a minimum amount of words based on their sig? Sometimes short answers are necessary. I hope this post fills your criteria, it's longer than my sig. So does that mean I'm right?

EDIT: Actually, what do you mean by longer? Because most people have an image in their sig, does it need to take up more lines than that? Your post has me seriously confused. Maybe you were just trying to boast about your new minimalist sig

Come back when you've got a sig

Why is your sig not too big Blisterman? The sig police are always after me, and I even had one smaller than yours. Maybe they just don't like Tom Waits.

There's always a space left over anyway, may as well fill it up

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    Hmmm.

I wonder who has the biggest sig on boards

With good reason too. Word on the street is that Tom Waits is a Commie red! But a good musician all the same!

PS: I cleverly used Ollie's quote to bulk out my post thus matching the size of my sig :D

This is the only forum I visit where I can't see the sigs. Must say, it's refreshing, not having to be bombarded by all that unnecessary information while trying to read a thread. I may do the same everywhere else.

I wouldn't reckon something is "seriously wrong" no. I'd consider something a bit wrong all right when someone notices this shit.

Large sigs on forums is something that has always irked me.

Why do people choose to have such large sigs? Why do you feel the need to inform everyone of something they're probably not bothered with after every post?

Does anyone really read everyone's sig? Why?

Are posters with large sigs simply attempting to compensate for something?

I don't really read sigs but I recognise posters by them when going through threads, especially long ones

Ignore the offending posters if it bothers you that much. I personally don't even notice them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

Well yeah I know peoples avatars aswell, but in the instance where someone has sigs turned off.

Defo. They feel inadequate when they see the length of some of the posts around here. Then, I guess when you use a quotation in here, it's like wearing a strap-on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,524 ✭✭✭✭Gordon

SigPo seem to be working overtime on this thread. It's like a signature lightning rod.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

Actually I think my sig is too wide according to the rules =/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,524 ✭✭✭✭Gordon

In case anyone is unaware of the rules, here they are.

Okay, there are a lot of BIG signatures appearing so I am reposting the guidelines in a more prominent place.

Since we have enabled images in people's signatures, I would like to suggest the following guidelines be strictly followed in order to ensure that your signature image does not impede the enjoyment of others.

All signatures should not exceed the following size limits.
    • Text: Including horizontal spaces - 4 lines normal size OR 8 lines small size, and up to 90 chars per line. Font sizes above 2 are not allowed. Do not use the tags. Carriage returns/new lines are a separate line, so if your sig has three lines of text separated by two spacer lines - that's 5 lines. Sorry, I know it's rather pernickety, but there has to be a line drawn somewhere /pun.
    • Images: Images totalling up to 500 pixels wide, 125 pixels tall and 20k in size. No animated images are allowed.
Note: for new members, you will not be able to create a signature until you have 25 posts. Please don't spam to hit this target, it'll just result in your posts being deleted.

Please make sure that your signature DOES NOT contain, or link to, profanity, bigotry, racism, or any other content that might be considered offensive by others. While we do not come out and suggest that this site is "family friendly" in nature, we do not want this to be interpreted as an open floodgate for sensitive material. IF WE GET A COMPLAINT, IT WILL BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY.

Please also make sure that your signature DOES NOT contain any nuisance links.

Your sig should NOT be a giant advertisment for anything. We'll just cut it. A subtle link to something you run online is fine. Use common sense. [Addition 09.02.07 - just to confirm that referral links are not allowed due to additional forum spam]. Centred, glowing, blinking ads will be deleted without notice. You have been warned.

I am hoping that by making this compromise we will, in fact, be able to appease almost everyone. However, if things start to get out of control and the signature facility is being constantly abused, we will have to disable it.

    Thanks,

    Admins

Your sig should NOT be a giant advertisment for anything.

Please make that image less intrusive and more subtle, I've deleted your sig a couple of times now, I'm getting fed up clipping it. In case it's not obvious, advertising is ok as long as it is subtle, your image is not subtle.
