Hi - got a flyer for this place last week. Looks like they're opening as 'Rock Gym' or something ....

    http://www.rockfitness.ie/

I always loved Dundrum Gym, was very small and personal - and about 2 mins walk from my house! Anyone know what their membership costs?

I'll be sticking with TF because of the pool, but this place could be good!

I joined here about a week ago and i just love it.

Have done the circuit of gyms in the area, was in Westwood for 2 years, went to Total Fitness then Jackie Skellys, Heard about RF from the guys in the shopping centre. Membership was really good value.

Classes are good too.i love they have a small team and it is really friendly. Never overly busy either so i can train without having to worry about someone wanting my treadmill or bench.

    Defo recommend it

I went in yesterday for a look and I have never been so disappointed by a gym. They say on the sign outside that it's 12000 sq ft and I had heard it has dumbbells to 50kg so I had high hopes. The free weights area is on the third floor and about the size of my sitting room, it has 2 (home use) dumbbell benches and 1 adjustable bench press and in fairness 1 great technogym power rack. Along with that is a few very good techno gym plate loaded machines (similar to hammerstrength) but they are a waste of space in such a small area, all they needed was more benches and racks. Its 49 a month or 440 a year btw

Doubt they would be able to unless the cut into the studio area, and I doubt they will seeing as they would lose the valuable spinning market!

Maybe its a legacy of the old dundrum gym (which i was never in) but the place seems very badly laid out. There is so much wasted space in the changing room/steam room/shower area, and most of it is literally just empty space not taken up by anything useful. Plus, there is only one small bench in the rather spacious changing room area. Presumably people are meant to sit on the window sills, but it could have been thought through more.

I think if they had spent a little less on overly fancy equipment (all cardio machines have a little tv monitor built in) and used the money to knock out a few walls they could have gotten so much more from it.

Its a shame, because if they had a better free weights area i would more than likley have joined, but as it is i wouldn't recommend it. While it is quiet now while new, i can forsee major problems if/when the membership increases.

I did notice some space there also but it does look like they are keeping it for cardio. Another upstrairs weight's room would be nice, I hate having to go down stairs for the cable crossovers.

I find the gym usable and more importantly it's within walking distance! Having to get in the car drive through traffic and find parking is a major pain.

sorry to reopen the thread but does this gym have car parking spaces?

It has a very small car parking space in front of the gym - fits about 10 cars max. Right beside the gym is a paid car park.

Myself and my boyfriend came here when Total Fitness closed. He wanted a decent weights area and I wanted a gym with classes. We have both been in gyms around the area we left westwood for totalfitness and when they closed we came to Rockfitness. We are both avid gym users and have been for 10 - 15 years. Of the 3 in the area its the best value for money, Westwood was overpriced, total fitness was a great facility and it was such a shame when it closed. I love that i dont have to pay extra for Yoga in Rockfitness. also they have upgraded their middle floor with more benches and that cable machine thingy. :)

Does anyone know what the cost of this is? I'm just wondering if it will be better value to park in the shopping centre - €2 for 3hours and walk across to the gym.
