"o driscoll is the hardest hitter in world rugby"

even the most green tinted among you must laugh at that.

Hook's a clown that, like Dunphy, says things for the headlines.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,249 ✭✭✭Stev_o

He's right though, name a playing centre at the moment that hits harder then BOD? Lima isn't around anymore to attempt to murder people in tackles.

last time someone called another member a clown on here they got a weeks ban, hooky is on boards too, lets not call other members names

It's laughable you think all those players are hard hitters then BOD.

He's wrong though. He said world rugby, not a playing centre. Would you rather take a hit from BOD or Ferris ?

Youtube videos could make Shane Williams look like a hard hitter and are a stupid argument.

I'd agree with you that O'Driscoll isn't the hardest hitter, but he's definitely a harder hitter than everyone on that list.

why ?what does the youtube video do to the hit to make it look harder then say television? or in the flesh? does youtube add more newtons of force?

Well done on not being able to read. Care to point out where I said they were softies? Not only that but Mortlocks hit on Flutey was the only good one. The other were either shoulder charges or hits my granny could have made.

Don't have a hissy fit now but he possibly could hit harder than Ferris. Obviously Ferris is heavier but O'Driscoll would be moving at a faster pace.

Didn't wrap arms but at full pace O'Driscoll hits very hard

There the only videos I can find on youtube but theres also his huge hit on O'Connell where O'Connell gets smashed and knocked it on, if anyone can find it.

His tackle against Australia to get full time was outstanding as well. Every game he smashes people in the tackle.

the second one is a peach.great text book "putting the trash out tackle"
the first was a well documented head clash.

the first was a well documented head clash.

Link? Doesn't look like a clash of heads from the video and if it was a clash of heads theres no way at that speed that neither O'Driscoll or Roussow would come away without needing stitches.

o driscoll put his hands straight to his head as they clash.
    watch it slowly.they smash heads

Ah I see now. Still, it was a big hit, illegal or not. People forget O'Driscoll is 15stone at only 5'9 and his acceleration off the mark is outrageously good. The guy can hit very hard.

oh i have no doubt.he is a seriously tough man.but im laughing at the hyperbole to call him the hardest hitter in the world.it pays dis-service to jerry collins, tia tia, ferris, neil best(on his day), bakkies botha, palu, umaga, etc etc im just picking players out of my arse here but i could keep going.

Well obviously. But there is a reason there called hospital passes. It doesn't take much strength to wind some when there whole mid section is wide open.

The media in Irish rugby have a tendency to sensationalise things.

DOC and POC best 2nd rows in world rugby.
Darcy and BOD best centre partnership in world rugby.
Leinster best backline in world rugby.
Munster supporters being the 'best' supporters in the world

We hear this crap all the time and have to learn to ignore it. Irish people like hearing / reading how great we are, and how great our teams are.

That's very true. But I can't think of a better back at tackling, than BOD

Just because you put in the biggest doesnt mean theyre the best. No way BOD is the biggest hitting back in world rugby. FFS

In fairness, relating to the DOC/POC axis and the D'Arcy Bod one, there's only about a dozen or so teams in world rugby, so in fairness, they really are amongst the world's best. If only by default. ;)

In my opinion the biggest hitting back of rugby played in Ireland is Doug Howlett. His hits are massive. Best back defender in Ireland however has to BOD imo.

Wow what a stupid thread. once again the internet coughs up a big sh1t fight over one mans throw away comment.

No Bod isn't the biggest hitter in rugby, but he is a big hitter, and nobody on here would want to take a hit from him unless your into that sort thing.

No offence mate, but before 2007 Dougie was considered a soft touch in NZ rugby. He has caught a few lads when lined up properly, but I certainly wouldn't rank him up for being a big hitter.

I like Hook. I'm a big fan. (george, obviously, not sh!thouse Hook, the welsh utility joke.)

But I do think he has a rather hilarious habit of referring to players as the best at something when they clearly are not.

Obviously he does this often enough. But it was just a throw away comment and this thread is ridiculous, even more so than the comment george made which isn't that ridiculous tbh.

Like the man myself. Met him a couple of times and he's a gent. He's nothing like he is on tv at all.

No offence but we are talking about now, not 3 years ago. In my opinion he is the biggest hitter for a back on the island of Ireland at the moment.

Hook is just trying to grovel to BOD, a player he has slated previoulsy, similar to others he has slated. BTW, p4p BOD is one hell of a hitter, so the statement from Hook is not far wrong, whether or not Hook even believes it

The Roussow thing wasn't a big hit, it was just that russow went head first into his shoulder.

And the hurley thing wasn't much of a hit either, he just lifted him.
Happens to tall players all the time if they dont drop the shoulder into the tackler.

    ???
Whatever about this silly argument on 'hits' and all that, you need a reply on the tackle in the video.
O'Driscoll stopped him dead running full pace and completely turned him over.
A stonking tackle with the tackler using position of field and body, speed and power to get his way.

I didn't say it wasn't a good tackle, and maybe I'm being a bit pedantic, but if I wanted to prove someone was a huge hitter, I wouldn't post that.

Aren't people taking this a little too literally?
Hook was just saying that BOD is a huge hitter, and expressing that with a little hyperbole. Seems fair enough to me.
If he said he was hungry enough to eat a horse would it merit a four page thread with youtube links to prove/disprove if this was possible?

Anyone hear Trevor Brennan commenting on George Hook on Radio 1 at the moment? To quote "George Hook hasn't a clue about rugby, full stop".
