RTÉ are testing reducing their ad breaks to just 60sec ones i.e. 2 ads during a break. It will start between "Not Enough Hours" and the 9 news. (Not sure if that is Irony on RTÉ side or just coincidence).
With RTÉ Television having less commercial minutage than competitive commercial channels, clutter is kept to a minimum in advertisement breaks. RTÉ Television are introducing 'stand-out breaks', a series of 60 second ad breaks running for 8 weeks, Wednesday evenings at 20.59 on RTÉ One. Typically RTÉ One attracts an audience of 600,000 Adults at this time on Wednesdays.
The first 'stand-out break' will feature in Not Enough Hours, which returns to RTÉ One on Wednesday 4th March for a second series following a very successful first run in 2008. A Millward Brown online survey conducted recently determined that short ad breaks generate even more cut-through with audiences.

Does this mean that there will be more overall ad breaks?
Hope it won't be like the USA system (Show start, 5 minutes in - ads - back for 10 minutes - ads - back for last 5 or so..) really bugged me.
