New Nissan Juke

Surprised there isnt a thread on this yet

    http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/247433/
Designed in the UK at Nissan’s Paddington Design Centre, the Juke uses SUV styling proportions to create a car that’s considerably wider and longer than a Micra, although at 1570mm high it’s only 30mm taller.

Inside, the car’s fascia is much more conventional than the exterior; the most striking feature is the centre console, which comes in body-coloured paint and is said to have been inspired by the fuel tank from a motorbike.
Underneath, the Juke uses a widened, lengthened version of the Renault Nissan Alliance B platform, also used in the Clio and Micra; it’s 2530mm wheelbase is 10cm longer, and the platform's extra width means it can accommodate wider tracks. That’s allowed Nissan to offer the Juke with 17-inch wheels and 215-section tyres.
Suspension remains a MacPherson strut front and torsion beam rear for the two-wheel drive versions, but unusually Nissan has decided to fit the four-wheel drive models with a new multi-link suspension at the rear. This should give the Juke handling to rival the class leaders'.
The 187bhp 1.6 turbo will be the only Juke available as a four-wheel-drive model; two-wheel-drive cars get a six-speed manual, but the four-wheel-drive variant comes with a CVT transmission.
The drivetrain is a development of the system in the Qashqai, with torque vectoring that splits torque from wheel to wheel across the rear axle.
There will also be a more powerful version of the Micra and Note’s 1.6 petrol, with 113bhp for the two-wheel-drive models only, and a 1.4 diesel.
Nissan is offering the Juke with plenty of big-car options, such as keyless entry and start, a rear-view camera and automatic headlights. Other options include underbody protector plates, illuminated door sills and a roof spoiler.

    Decent pics here: http://www.netcarshow.com/nissan/2011-juke/

I actually dont mind the way this looks, not sure its as likeable(To some) as the qashqai but its certainly quirky

Will it replicate the success of the qashqai in the sub 20k€ market?

    Opinions?

Don't know what to make of that, kind of hideous, quirky, I wouldn't be seen dead in one but would kind of admire anyone who bought one.

Jebus-are those fog lights? Should sell well in Ireland if they are that prominent.

I really don't have a clue what this car is about, let alone the Qashqai that has gone before it.

2 sets of fog-lights on the front? Perfect for all current Micra drivers to upgrade to so :pac:

OMG! That is gonna look hideous in the rear view mirror.

Who is the "target market" for this stuff? I lump Qashqai, SangYong Rexton & BMW X6 in with this ugly mess.

Its not great from that angle true but from other angles its alright, fair enough for trying to create something a bit different but they probably took it a bit too far with this one, pricing in this country will be interesting

Against my better judgement and all logic I kind of like it, it looks a bit like the Murano if you squint hard enough and I like the Murano so maybe that explains it

I guess what I like is that at least they have tried something different and it is better than the muck they ahve been producing lately (I am looking at you Pixo and Tida)

That center console is mank though

Looks like it's a decent effort.

The more I look at it the more I think that in a decent colour it's not half bad...not like the majority of bland boxes on sale at the moment anyway:D

Surprisingly it does look like that, although the colour could be adding to it massilvely.

    Either way, it's horrid!

Nissan must have stolen Alfas design team and tortured them jap style and then they started designing cars for Nissan. That looks worse than a Fiat Multipla..

OT has anyone noticed the amount of grown up boy racers who seem to own a quasqi (FFS) and drive the backsides out of them, just a funny observation in my day to day commute to work.

Yep, that sums it up for me.

I wouldn't compare it with a Ssangyong. Nissan are being deliberately provocitive, fair dues, it's better than another bland-mobile.

Don't think I've ever seen a blinged up Quasqai in all honesty. I just assume anyne I see driving one was hugely desperate for the property developer/builder's moll look at a budget price!

Lads, like it or hate it, I think this will be another massive success story for Nissan ala the Qashqai.

I've driven one and even though it was a 1.6 petrol, the ride is nice, its not soft in the corners, nice place to be inside (Sport and SVE models) and its a breath of fresh air into a otherwise fairly bland segment.

When the diesel comes next year it will be a good seller to those who like the Qashqai but don't want to spend 25k on one.

    Watch this space IMo...

After being in one earlier I agree with most of the above.

My only real bug bear was the size inside VS the price.

However it is aimed at the type of person who would buy a BINI and so this wouldn't be a major problem.

TBH I really hate the front, and I notice it is rarely shown in adverts which have appeared on RTE.

Good luck, I'm glad a manufacturer is trying something different but I don't see it being successful in Ireland

Having driven plenty of CVTs (MINIs had a horrible CVT on the One and the Cooper), I can't help laugh and think of Jeremy comparing the nose the engine/CVT box make with the theme tune of Bonanza.

Hideous abortion of a car. Having it in red makes it look even more like a womans shoe. Nissan are really loosing the plot recently. Juke, Urban Proof Qashquai (Urban proof my arse, the paintballers are lousy shots, the car doesn't even try to avoid anything in the ad), the Tino, the Tiida, the Note. What's next? Shouldn't they just release the Nissan Bland and get it over and done with?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 879 ✭✭✭dunsandin

I reckon it looks savage. Just shows, each to their own. Nissan better hope its not too radical though. But, I like it, and the missus thinks she wants one - nissan could sell one yet.

I actually think it looks half decent. Like what some others have said, I wouldn't buy one, but it's not exactly aimed at my demographic. But it does look pretty quirky and 'fun'. It's always going to be aimed specifically at the 25+ year old woman, so the 'woman's shoe' point is moot.

I quite like the look of the red in this, especially in the second pic the OP put up and some people here have already praised the car after driving it. So I think we should cut it some slack.
What's next? Shouldn't they just release the Nissan Bland and get it over and done with?

I'd disagree with this in my opinion.

While Nissan have some very boring cars in their range (they do need to make sales so it's inevitable there'll be some fairly dull cars for the plain Janes out there), they do have some of the most quirky/audacious cars on the market too.

They've got the GTR obviously.. no comment needed here.
They've got the 350Z and 370Z. Large engined, heavy, 2 seater coupes are pretty much avoided at all costs by nearly every other marque.
They also had a hair brain idea of putting the same 3.5 V6 into their SUV, the Murano.
They've got the love it or hate it Cube as well which must get some marks for originality. It was also a very good seller in Japan despite it's off the wall design.

Other companies just rehash/renew the same ideas over and over again, especially the likes of Toyota, VW, Audi or BMW (less so BMW over the last few years admittedly).

I'm a little biased in that I own a Nissan, but I do think they get an unfair amount of stick based on Micras/Almeras/Primeras etc and don't get enough praise for some of their other more daring ideas.

They'll lose out on a good few sales from the lads who like to have their cars for the first of Jan if they're not bringing out the diesel until next year!
