Not to be smart, but maybe think about doing some more useful exercises than 1000 sit ups.

Wouldnt recommend doing that. Chances of injuring yourself are high, and you aren't going to get anything out of it

i go to the gym regularly, but never seem to manage to do situps that much so im thinking of doing at least as much as i can so maybe friday night i can get a good start again after a jog

I would get a chin up bar first and foremost. I would not ever bother getting a situp board, you can do knee raises, leg raises on the bar which would be better than endless situps.

Time would be better spent on more productive bodyweight exercises, like lunges, squats, pushups.

im only using the board because i bought it years ago when i was a novice to the gym, so what would ye recommend someone do to get toned abs (bearing in mind in only starting to get back to jogging after i stubbed my toe on a table!)

Lose body fat. Unless you have sub 12% bf, don't bother doing anything else yet.

Heavy squats, deadlifts and bench will keep the muscles going while you are losing that fat.

1000 situps sounds like a terrible idea OP.

But if you re-apply that enthusiasm to a group of more useful exercises you could get some great results.

    Like the ones Rubadub said.

    Or 100 Burpees.

what counts as 1 burpee though? I find i could do 25-30 but then my technique would go to sh!t and i might only be jumping a couple of inches off the ground and not throwing my legs back far enough - is there a standard??

    Yep.

    Chest touch against the ground.
    Full extension.
    Leave the ground.

I have seen people insist that you jump from an ATG squat, but thats psychotic.

no problem - most will do it well under 5-8mins at a good level and farrrrrrr more productive than 1000 bloody sit ups - what a waste of time!

Ask yourself if you only had 15mins to train what would you do - ala Dan John
