Breaded Fish

    Hi,

Was watching a programme about healthy eating. The whole idea was to have nice, tasty and nutritious food that did not compromise taste and was not fattening.

Breaded Fish was mentioned. You know the breaded Cod/Haddock you see in Tesco/Dunnes

According to the woman talking (dietician) these are perfectly healthy once grilled and a great source of nutrition when eaten with potatoe/rice and veg as a dinner. Not fattening whatsoever.

She said they did not contain much Omega3 as Oily fish but that it was still a delicious and utterly harmless dinner so long as its grilled.

    Anyone agree/disagree?

Its sounds great as i love breaded (not battered) Cod. With home made chips.

    Pete

Have you ever read the ingredients of the breadcrumbs, its usually wheatflour, salt, dextrose and vegetable oil among a few other things. I wouldn't call that healthy, and i wouldn't even consider breaded fish you buy in a supermarket in the same league as say some nice salmon nutritionally. The person in the program will probably tell you sausages are healthy too if they done on the george foreman.

buy some fresh fish, throw some brown bread into the food processor along with little salt and pepper and coat fish in egg yoke or milk and dip into bread crumbs. that is ok .. the processed breadded fish are NOT. yeah home made chips (oven or actifry) can be ok but not as nutritious as lots of fresh vegetables. so, if you want fish and chips go with ideas above but not donegal catch and oven chips!

It's right up there with "Jelly beans and Coke are perfectly healthy as long as they fit into your healthy diet".

Breaded fish will not kill you, but they are not a good choice.

    Not fattening whatsoever.
Everything makes you fat if you eat enough, those fish are high enough in calories, bit lower than most breaded chicken stuff, but not much lower. It is usually ~50% breadcrumbs so can actually be quite expensive, lidl have a great range of frozen unbreaded fish fillets.

EDIT: -the posts after this are now in the off topic thread. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055755887&page=4
