Does anyone know of any fruit and veg that have a focus on in-season, local, organic produce? Most supermarkets' fruit and veg are not the most impressive, so i was just wondering if anyone new of some viable alternatives.
Im in dublin, but sure it would be useful enough for people all over if anyone posted up a list of local fruit'n'vegs that accomodate.

    Cheers everyone :)

Go to the Temple Bar farmers market on Saturday.

Jenny McNally's farm grows all local organic stuff, including vegetables that many people have never heard of.

David Llewellen has organic apples he grows himself, along with apple juice, cider and vinegar he makes from them.

Up the steps in Curve Street, Dennis Healy has lots of organic stuff, some home grown, some imported.

Bit off topic but he is meant to be the only guy selling genuine cider in Ireland, i.e. made from just apple juice.

Bulmers use disgracefully misleading advertising. They say their pear cider is a "pear cider made from 100% pears", but in reality this legally means the only FRUIT in it is 100% pears, so it could be just 1% pear juice and the rest could be water and sugar and technically they are right! I cannot believe the sheer nerve of them to have such misleading ads which infer other pear ciders are not genuine and theirs is. Same goes for their apple "cider", its really an alcopop.

Dunno how ads like this are allowed.

"don't you hate being misled" -eh yes...

This place off Cork St, D8 have good organic veg:

I used to get organic veg and eggs delivered to me from this lot:

    www.homeorganics.ie

Nice stuff, good variety, reasonable value. They deliver city centre office or home. You get an email with recipes for the veg in your veg box as well - nice recipes.

The first option is stunningly expensive relative to supermarket - I mean mad prices, but you probably know that this is often the case with these organic veg markets.

I now, in reduced circumstances, opt for Lidl's organic stuff. Good tasty carrots, good potatoes, crap for apples and tomatoes, not much variety. Also at certain times of year some of it is sourced from Israel, which won't suit everyone (not me anyway).

How long does the organic food from, say, absolutelyorganic.ie or homeorganics.ie typically keep for? The portions are rather large, right?

Yes, for the E22 bag of veg and fruit, it would keep 2 people going for a week.

Have to recommend homeorganics as they are brilliant and get most of their stuff from Wicklow.
