On a good night it takes me minimum an hour, a bad night would be anything up to four or five hours. probably have a mild form of insomnia tbh. i just have an active brain, am constantly thinking of things.

the brother is the complete opposite, he'd be conked in about 2 minutes.

wat about the rest of ye?

Used to find it hard to get to sleep. Then i discovered fapping :pac:!

*Never wonder why women have higher insomnia rates than men, eh?

When youre thinking about how long it takes you to sleep: you will never get to sleep.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,190 ✭✭✭✭IvySlayer

Takes me ages to go off. As soon as I hit the pillow I'd get a million thoughts. Then I'd be like 'Oh maybe I'll switch the laptop on or what's on TV?'

Can take hours if im not drinking. If im sober ill go to bed around 1-2 then watch telly for about an hour and try to go asleep. Once or twice a week Ill stick be awake at 9 in the morning trying to sleep.
If Im drunk then it only takes about 20-30 minutes :)

or if its just an average day or you've done some sport or had a few too many pints il be out within 5 minutes tops

If I'm drunk I can be asleep within a minute of getting into bed. Normal night, I'd say about 20 minutes. The odd time it can take about 5 hours though.

Way too long, usually in bed at least 2 hours before I sleep. Helps if I have something good to read. Helpful when you're cramming the night before a test though!

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Same as yourself. My mind just keeps on thinking about stuff and keeping me awake. I'm so jealous of people who can get to sleep easily

    about ten mins usually, thankfully

theres been a few times when ive been unable to sleep due to stressful stuff going on in my life, and it was horribly disabling

I can't understand it frankly. My girlfriend can pretty much decide to go to sleep and off she goes. Me "deciding", if I'm not really tired, involves lying there for an hour or so :(

if I've not had a drink, takes me ages.....to the point where I get so cross at not falling asleep I inevitably get up again, making it worse.
    If I've had a drink - about 15-20 mins

i'm like that too. as long as i'm warm, i can sleep anywhere. it doesnt have to be dark, or quiet, or even comfortable, i just have to be warm.

*awaits onset of hate-filled posts from insomniacs*

Takes about 20 mins, the key is to wind down before sleeping, watch a little tv, listen to your i pod then nod off

Ya me too. My gf can sleep straight away. Sometimes I accidently wake her up. :D

Atleast 3 hours, always has, ever since I was about 7.

Biggest mistake you can ever make is put a telly in your kids bedroom, mine did and I never learned to put my self asleep!

Mine too, for some reason its seems that people who fall asleep easily tend to be easy to wake as well, except they usually wake up shocked.

It probably doesnt help that some of my sleep farts have more of an echo than a "Khan" shout.

it used to take me ages to go asleep cause my head wouldnt switch off but now if i make a list of things i need to do etc before i go to bed i go asleep within 20mins! it definately works

It takes me aaages to get asleep. Only it seems to have gotten worse lately..

People should appreciate and not take for granted being able to go sleep quickly?

Some nights it takes me hours...it's the most frustrating fking thing ever. The more you get annoyed with it, the longer you're awake. Stress has a lot to do with it though and I'm a continuously stressed person.

I have to try time it so that I get to bed and to sleep in between night-feeds, but I usually miss the window watching TV so it takes about half an hour, four to five times a night

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,908 ✭✭✭Simi

Takes all night sometimes. Don't fall asleep till somewhere between 5am-8am usually. On days where I have to be up early in the morning I just count down the mins until I have to be up!

if i'm tired i'm asleep before head hits the pillow, i have been known to pass out mid sentence when i'm drunk. i will also sleep anywhere, no matter how awkward it is.

in saying that though the odd time it could take me hours to sleep, no matter how much "fapping" i do!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭Holsten

Sorry guys but unless I just had a power nap on the couch because of Greys Anatomy, it would rarely ever take me more than 5 minutes. Usually sleep right through all sorts without waking. Drives my wife nuts as she thinks I ignore the whimpers if our child wakes up at night!

Seems to me like there are a lot of smokers on this thread with a lot of people saying it takes them nearly and hour or 2 to get to sleep. I mean are you sleeping on jagged rocks or something?

I don't smoke for one, just a case of not being tired, then I'm always knackered when I wake up

What has smoking got to do with not sleeping?

Im a smoker but don't smoke in bedroom and I have a real nice memory foam mattress topper and not jagged rocks to sleep on :p

If MrThirdTesticle and MrsThirdTesticle are making love before sleep time it doesn't take long. Otherwise can take 30-90 minutes.

If Hailey Mealy Maiden and MrsThirdTesticle are making love before sleep time it doesn't take long. Otherwise can take 30-90 minutes.

Is that the answer to a maths problem :p

I have no problem zonking out at night. I never have a nap during the day and I usually stay up after midnight. It rarely takes me more than half an hour to nod off.

I think I have a bit of a sleep disorder or something. Sometimes I fall asleep even if im trying to stay awake other nights I don't sleep at all!!

If im trying to get to sleep I always decorate a house in my head:o it does the trick sometimes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

anything from 2 minutes to 2 hours, nothing in particular affects it, just seems to be random

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 55 ✭✭lalalalinda

It usually takes me at least 2 hours to get to sleep. On bad nights in can take much much more :( Thing is, once I get to sleep I'm out for the night. I could sleep for days. The only hard bit is trying to get to sleep...so don't know if that counts as insomnia!

Coming in drunk from a night out is great though. I'm out as soon as I hit the pillow :D

It's gonna take alot longer than normal now cause I'm reading this thread before I try sleep..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,969 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

I read for about 2 hours before I turn out the light...could take me a half an hour before I'd go to sleep then.

If I went to bed and tried to fall asleep without reading, I could be awake for 5 - 6 hours...

I have always been good at getting to sleep very quickly.

My wife tells me that once, when I was a bit tired, I literally lay down and as soon as I was in position horizontally, I was asleep, so I guess thats zero seconds!

And btw I dont have narcolepsy!
