    Now with poll.
Not moving this to Eyeglasses. They all wear them over there so the poll would be a bit biased.

    Glasses. And occasionally contacts.

People with 20/20 vision annoy me. I like to imagine that everyone not wearing glasses is secretly wearing contacts. And that they irritate their eyes slightly, like mine do.

I wear glasses sometimes, and contacts other times. Why no option for me? :(

    Me too!

    Clear discrimination.

I wear glasses. My eyesight is terrible, its as if theres vaseline smeared all over my eyes, with a wee bit cleaned away where my glasses are.

I'm told I don't look too blind though. A friend of mine has better vision than me, but squints and looks like a mole when he takes his glasses off, so everyone thinks he's blinder. I just accept vaseline vision when needs be.

By the looks of the poll Boards are going to have to have to replace have the smiley icon with glasses on them

I wear glasses and if I'm going out in town I wear contacts. I would love to the laser done.

    As an interesting fact:

If you have 20/20 vision, it means that when you stand 20 feet away from the chart you can see what the "normal" human being can see. (In metric, the standard is 6 meters and it's called 6/6 vision).
You can also have vision that is better than the norm. A person with 20/10 vision can see at 20 feet what a normal person can see when standing 10 feet away from the chart.

I wear glasses when driving, watching TV, basically to see far away! I wear them when I'm shopping too!
So many people are wearing glasses now, don't know whether the eye tests and glasses are more affordable or it's more 'socially acceptable' these days.

People wear glasses with clear glass in them. This used to enrage me, but I've come to realise that it's a good thing. If glasses become fashionable I can stop jamming little pieces of plastic into my eyes.

Wear glasses 24/7 since I was about 5 or 6, can't get contacts.
    (Except sleeping and showering)
(oh and putting on make up with face an inch from the mirror lol)

One of the reasons I hate 3D is this, it's most uncomfortable for starters, I get a pain on my nose cuz the 3D ones have to sit lower than your regular ones.

I also get a headache from wearing 3D glasses as it feels like my eyes have been pointing inwards trying to see. I can't use regular microscopes because I don't form one picture, they remain two separate ones. Prefer monocle microscopes.

Glasses since I was 7 (eek!) and then tried contacts when I was 25, and love them, but usually keep them for going out or wearing on a sunny day driving...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,021 ✭✭✭Sulmac

Wear a mix of contacts and glasses, though I can usually do without both.

My Girlfriends Dad is an optician in Germany so I get mine for Free.:p

I have two pair of UV anti scratch glasses which tint when I go out side

Even on cloudy days it looks like im wearing sunglasses ( Look a bit of a tit )

Wore glasses from 8 years old, then got contacts when I was 16 but couldn't wear them all the time so still had glasses aswell. Then got my eyes lasered when I was 21. I'd recommend it to anyone, it can be a bit pricey but considering what I used to spend on contacts and glasses it's paid for itself several times over by now. The operation is completely painless and took ten minutes, although my eyes did sting a bit a couple of days later but that didn't last long. Had an eye test about 4 months ago and my vision is as good as it was the week after I got the eyes zapped, "better than 20/20" as the optician said.

Actually the last pair I bought I got online, cost around 50euro,
frames, lenses, thinned, anti glare, anti scratch, delivered.

Here that would have cost me close to 300 at least.

If it's only those -1 -2 ones, then you're better off buying them in the likes of the Euro shop or that. My mother uses them herself for if she's reading things.

I lost my glasses before, and the same as you, couldn't afford to replace them.
I finally went and had an my eye test for new glasses. When the optician finished the test she put my old prescription lens and then the new prescription lens in front of my eyes I couldn't believe it. Months of not wearing my glasses had made my vision worse! I was cursing myself for days over that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,554 ✭✭✭✭alwaysadub

I wear glasses constantly now. There's bad eyesight on both sides of my family so was kinda inevitable. Have tried contacts but they don't agree with me.
Also have an astigmatism in one eye.
If i could change my eyes i would!

I did this because I forgot about having to wear the glasses. It was annoying at first but I quickly got used to it.

Contacts are great for going out, but when I'm drunk I either forget or get too lazy to take them out...

I'm tired to hearing about people who get laser eye surgery and then marvel that when they wake up in the morning they can "see the numbers on the alarm clock!"

Honestly , the technology is wasted on you people if that's the major thing you can report from using it.

Not really. LEGALLY I can drive without my glasses because I passed the eye-test. In reality I cannot see signs, reg's etc while driving. At time I'm near blind even with headlights on but for some reason they decided to say "Yes, you can drive without needing your glasses". So if, god forbid, I knocked someone down because I couldn't see my defence would be "Hey, I'm legally allowed drive without my glasses so it's his fault I didn't see him he should have had a hi-vis jacket while walkin on the road"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,134 ✭✭✭Lux23

Glasses. I like them too and not sure I want to get laser eye surgery as I like the look of intelligence they give me. And believe me I need it.

I don't care how small the risks are, I'd never take the chance of losing my eyesight just so I can live without glasses. I'll take the hassle. I also like my glasses, I like how they look.

I use contacts the whole time, fucking hate wearing glasses with a passion!

    plus their all scratched...............

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭moonflower

For some reason I always wanted glasses when I was younger, so I was happy when I had to get them. I don't need to wear them all the time though so I'd never bother with contacts or laser. I hate the idea of putting in contacts and laser just seems painful
