    Well... why?

    (As opposed to any other delectable sugary treats)

    Never understood the core reason for this, so seeing it's Friday afternoon I thought I'd ask

    They do make some crazy flavours. My sister lives in a town in Germany with a Lindt factory about 100 metres down the road. The factory shop is always a must.

    That one was good, 50c per bar. I quite like chocolate with somewhat savoury things like that in it.

    The Cheese cake in Yamamouri on bachelors walk is the sh1T. I almost did that thing they do on master chef when the two sweaty lads hold the spoon in their mouth too long and get borderline sexual describing the really big flavours.

    Some great quotes here. "I wouldn't marry your rhubarb, strawberry and ginger crumble - but I'd love to take it away for a dirty weekend" Such nonsense those two lads talk.

    Fantastic!

    My brother loves impersonating them when he eats:

    "the flavours explode in my mouth, and there are so many textures at play in there".

    A few years ago I worked for a while in Edinburgh making cakes for restaurants and cafés. I remembered to dig out this photo last weekend and finally got around to scanning it. What you see below is the partial output of a 12 hour solo Saturday on the shop floor (with Van Morrison, Steely Dan, The Wedding Present, Elvis, Talk Talk, Ray Charles and The Jimmy Cake for musical accompaniment).

    May I present- my cake credentials:

    CAKE.jpg

    From back to front:

    Two baked cheesecakes (flavour uncertain- vanilla?);
    Two chocolate pecan tarts;
    Vegan date and walnut cake; baked cheesecake (something fruity);
    Passion fruit cheesecake (not baked); baked blueberry cheesecake;
    Baked raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake; chocolate Malteser cake.

    Not pictured- four trays of carrot cake, two trays of chocolate brownies, 60 muffins (various flavours).

    :pac:chomp:pac:chomp:pac:chomp:pac:chomp:pac:!!

    Ha! Brilliant. :D Though I suspect there may be others who'd fancy that title. Maybe a Boards Cycling bake-off is needed, and the winner gets your banner in ther sig?

    If I ever get around to opening that café in the Alps I'll be sure to post details here. Discounts for Boardsies, obviously! :)

    Or how about a picnic to sample the results of that bake-off? Bike Week 2010 was announced recently, and if they repeat the family day in the Phoenix Park, that might be the perfect opportunity. It was good fun last year, but cake would surely make it even better!

    If Friday is cake day, then is Monday anti-cake day and like dark matter do we know what anti-cake might be. Porridge? Semolina? Prunes?

    Any thoughts on this?

    I ain't giving away my recipe. You have to earn my trust and then my friendship, then, you might be lucky enough to be invited to an event where I may have baked a carott cake.

    Not giving away my pancakes ( crepes ) recipe either.

    Goddammit I already have one person to pester for their carrot cake recipe, now you too?

    Pancakes, one cup milk, 2 eggs, one cup flour.

    I don't make them, my 5 year old does. I just watch him. He got a blister from the pan the last time so he's been left on floor scrubbing duties instead.

    Sorry bringing it off topic now. I vote Carrot Cake, because the "carrot" part makes me think it's healthy

    crepes recipe .

    I suppose you'd consider it sacrilege to make a Galette Complet with added caramelised onions and sautéd mushrooms then...

    Thought galettes were a type of tart?

    You are thinking of the 'Petites galettes' or other kind of "galettes' which are a type ... of cakes as well or biscuits or brioche ...
    Let's just says people from britanny are like the english who call everything 'pudding' ...
