Plateus and resets

I've been doing the starting strength program for about 3 months now or there abouts and I've recently plateue'd in my squats or at least I think I have. I've been pushing the same weight for about the last 3 or 4 sessions I think but the thing is everytime I go to do it again I get slightly closer to getting it out. Like another rep or two on the sets. So my questions-

    1) When do you plateu? Is it when no matter how hard you try you just get no progress on a weight or it justs takes alot longer than it did before to move up?

    2) When you plateue how much should you drop and should you focus on a different style maybe on less weight like if you platue on the flat bench press maybe try the inclined with a bit less weight to improve it overall?

... dammit pretty sure I had a third question but can't remember it right now.

Thanks for the feedback everyone :D

Drop about 10% then work back up as normal. You should go through your old plateau. If not it might be time for intermediate (week to week) programming for your squat. Careful with changing to intermediate stuff, just change the stuck things. Your other lifts are progressing (I assume?) in a session to session manner so stick with that!

    Hope that helps.

Mostly progressing though it has slowed down alot. I think I will try a reset on my squat and try get through it back up but what if it plateues again say 5kg over what it's at now? Just keep resetting till I the reset doesn't work anymore?

Pretty much. If you do an honest* reset twice and you only gain about 5 kilos I'd either move to microloading or onto intermediate programming. There's a bit of a debate as to whether microloading and continuing from session to session is faster than doing something like 5/3/1 where you go from week to week. It's personal preference and I know myself that I'd probably want to do something new.

*By honest I mean plenty of good food and sleep, not just plateauing because you got 3 hours sleep each night for the last week and you've been eating only spinach. Extreme I know but I think you'll get what I mean.
