Can you eat too much fruit? I eat 3-4 portions a day - watermelon, apple, oranges, grapefruit, pears, pineapple!

I cut out the grapes and reduced the pineapple to only ocassionally, I don't eat bananas!

Would 3-4 a day be too much? As in hinder weight loss?

*Note I know my lack of weight loss is not due to overeating of fruit, its my over eating of food  Just got an email from calorie count saying over eating fruit can hinder weight loss!

Well you are supposed to try and eat 3 pieces a day and if you are staying away from the really sugary stuff like pineapple or banana then it should be helping you to lose weight.

If you are very active, then 3-4 pieces of fruit a day is nothing. If you are not, then it might be too much. My person rule is that you should be eating more vegetable than fruit. If you are eating nine portions a day, then 3-4 of fruit is fine. If you are eating five or less, then it's too much.

The thing about fruit is that while it's fresh and natural etc, it often has a lot more calories than people realise. A banana or orange or biggish apple all clock in at around 100 cals. Four portions a day is often 400 cals that you forget to count. A similar portion of green vegetable probably has about 25 calories.

You really are a mine of information EillenG :)

I would eat 5-6 protions of veg a day!! Sometimes 8-9!! Not very active at the mintue due to a dodgy sciatic nerve but moderatly walking 40min a day!!

Might replace one apple with carrots :) Rarely eat bananas anyway!

    Thanks
