Jsut wondering if anyone recommends any good guide to painting miniatures? I'm mainly talking about Games Workshop miniatures, but any guide for paintig models would do.

I have a couple of the GW guides, which are handy for painting schemes and some of the techniques, but some of the descriptions on how to do details can be a bit confusing and all over the place. And other instructions gloss over stuff that leaves you with little clue as to what to do.

There's loads of youtube videos and web pages about it, but the fact that there's so many makes it hard to figure out which is the best without resorting to trial and error.

So is there any book, web site or video that you would recommend to someone?

Oh, and if anyone has a guide on how to use the GW airbrush, I'd appreciate it. I can't believe I keep mucking it up so badly! :P

Depends on what aspects you're going for. The Forgeworld Modelling Masterclass was very good, if you're going for vehicles in particular.

Well I'd be going for a bit of a mix really. I'm more into collecting bits and pieces from different armies, but have been siding towards Imperial Guards, and Cadians and Catachans in particular. I've a couple of tanks, so will probably be sticking towards infantry.

It's mainly the techniques, as opposed to the designs, that I'm looking for. I was thinking of getting the Masterclass book. Is it fairly advanced? I wouldn't exactly class myself as incompetent (well, maybe I would), but I kind of got the feeling that a lot of what's in that book would go over my head.

Applying the simpler methods from it produced that.

If they are GW models, then pop into a GW and get a free painting lesson or two.

I have only recently come back into the hobby and found the lads in Blanch great for a few lessons. Taught me a few bits and pieces I never would have come up with myself.
