Jailed paedophile priest: "it was an altar boy thing"

A FORMER priest who told gardai he was sexually attracted to altar boys was jailed for one year for indecently assaulting a child.

Patrick Hughes (82), of Park Drive Court, Castleknock, Dublin, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to four counts of indecent assault against the child, then an altar boy.

The boy was aged between 11 and 14 years old when he was abused in a parochial house, on trips to the beach and in the former priest's home on dates between 1979 and 1983.

Recently our Government banned the sight of cigarettes from view in retail outlets because it feared the sight of them could entice smoking. Likewise young boys should be put out off sight from Catholic Priests because it could entice child mollesting as it did in this case.

Perhaps it is now high time to ban the practice of having alterboys in the church. The practice is not even mentioned in the Bible.

Silly thought while on the way to work this morning:

What happens when a priest confesses to sinning to another priest in the confession box? Do they both say 'Bless me Father for I have sinned' at the same time?

Ahh maybe it would work better if I sent a drawing into Phoenix.

I think that they have to confess to a bishop, a bishop has to confess to a cardinal etc.

Any person who willingly forgoes such a natural and instinctive human act like sex has obvious sexual problems. Some may be asexual and have no interest in sex but I would say most try and ignore or repress their desires, some successfully, some end up sleeping with consenting men or women and some become so warped that their natural sexual urges twist into sick acts like we have heard about all too often.

Funny he didn't have a thing for 80 year old women considering they make up the front row at an average mass.

    Reminds me of Family Guy,
    You're drunk again!

Funny how most sexual abuse occurs amongst married men. So much for the sexual oppression argument.

The front row of a Daniel O'Donnell concert / front row at mass / the queue to Wayne Rooneys shagpad.

What has 100 keys and smells of cum?

    An "After Hours" user's keyboard.

I was referring specifically to the Church, not child abuse as a whole. But some might say getting married is as sure a way to ruin your sex life as joining the priesthood.

You obviously have no idea what a Catholic vocation is. Married life, single life and religious life are all vocations. The meaning of life is not to maximise pleasure (i.e. the pursuit of a consumeresque "sex life"; just like on TV), it's to do God's will in the face of temptation.

You can't resort to the trivial and the banal when you're in your final hour.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that was famed Irish playright, poet, author and general dandy Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen who came up with that one.

Jesus's last words were "I'm not the messiah, I'm a very naughty boy.".
