Meh its HBO so how can you not at least give it a try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,267 ✭✭✭opr

Its getting mixed reviews so far with many people saying its kinda like Entourage "the early years" before Vince got famous.

It airs on HBO tommorow night, from what I have read I am looking forward to it.

Just watched the first episode. Thought it was great even if it could have done with being a little less emo for a pilot. Still loads of potential, show has a great vibe to it and a kickass soundtrack!

    Started on HBO last night..

Can hear the TV execs at HBO now..

Exec #1: "You know the kids like nowadays?"
    Exec #2: "What's that?"
    Exec #1: "Entourage"
Exec #2: "Fo' sure... that Johnny Drama sure does crack me up!"
Exec #1: "Yeah.. he's actually been given the same script for the last 40 episodes. But no-one can tell. Anyways, it may suprise you to hear this but some people don't like Entourage."
Exec #2: "That's not possible.. it's got Jeremy Piven!"
Exec #1: "Even with Piven! I've got an idea.. we'll pull in a bunch of the actors who auditioned for Entourage.. and get another under-rated cult favourite actor to star alongside them in a similarly pretentious show"
Exec #1: "You mean someone like Luiz Guzman?"
Exec #2: "GET MY CHEQUEBOOK... and get Mark Wahlberg and 2 other producers on 'Entourage' to produce it, to to ensure it's really identical!"

Well Mark Wahlberg is behind both this and Entourage

has anyone kept watching? have watched the first four eps so far, the quality stepped up after the first imo and it's an enjoyable watch. i'm definitely gonna keep this one up for a while...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,267 ✭✭✭opr

Still watching and will continue to do so for a while as its good fun and I think it has potential.

I disagree that it has picked up from the beginning as overall I think the first episode was the strongest of the four aired. To keep it going they will have to introduce a couple more very strong characters as I don't think it has enough in what we have seen so far.

Up to episode 8 now and the show is starting to get better. Not my favourite show, but it is certainly getting more interesting. I'll keep watching!

Only eight episodes in the first season and it still hasn't been renewed. The music was the best thing about this programme.

HBO renews for a second season: http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/04/21/how-to-make-it-in-america-renewed-by-hbo-for-a-second-season/49365

I think everything current on HBO got renewed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,397 ✭✭✭✭FreudianSlippers

I'm happy about that. I'd like to see where they're going with this show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,189 ✭✭✭Gekko

Watched all 8 episodes of this and enjoyed it from start to finish.

I'll be tuning in for the 2nd series.

Another HBO success in my opinion. More of this please!

Just came across this show there, while looking at trailers for boardwalk empire, its by HBO. I searched the forum and couldn't find a thread on it..
Just wondering has anyone watched it and if its any good?
its by Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg same as entourage so just wondering if its worth a watch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,189 ✭✭✭Gekko

I watched the whole first series a few weeks ago and I enjoyed it.

I'd say that if you enjoy Entourage then there's a good chance you will also enjoy How to Make it in America.

In summary, if you have a chance to watch it, I'm guessing that you won't be disappointed.

I don't know how it took me so long to come across this show but I really enjoyed it.

As others have said the music was brilliant...looking forwards to seeing where they take it in season 2.

What's the air date lads - it being end of Sept I'd imagine it's not too far away

Season 2 premieres tonight on HBO.

Feels like about 2 years since the first season aired. It's lost any bit of momentum it once had.

The poor quality of the crop of new shows means I'll probably give it another go though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,385 ✭✭✭✭D'Agger

Really liked the first episode - thought it was funny - good to see Scott Mescudi (Domingio) aka Kid Cudi getting more time as I like his character.

Looking forward to episode 2 now

Good start to the season and I liked the more arty approach to some of the camera work during the episode.

Have to say I'm really enjoying this season so far

Grown to like each character more and more - Domingo, Cam, David especially

Music and artwork are very good and the sidestories have been entertaining.

    Still absolutely hate Rachel though

I love this show but they should get rid of the Rasta Monsta (or whatever the drink is called) story, it's crap, really annoying and doesn't add anything to the show at all.

It annoyed me initially but I like the fact that René (spelling?) is trying to go legit but at the same time falling into old habits like this week
pretty much roughing up the shop owner for money owed to him
    - not exactly the usual carry on of a legitimate businessman

If I could correct one thing it'd be more focus on Crisp and the guys working to make it - it's moved away from that area in the past few episodes and focusing more on the characters, their personal lives, love etc.

Not that I don't enjoy that, the character development (especially Cam) has been brilliant but at the end of the day the show is founded around the rising potential of Crisp.

Thought this weeks episode was really good.

I get the impression that the Rasta Monsta weed spray is going to cause alot of trouble.

The "I've been wearing the same hoodie all night" line had me cracking up for some reason.
And it was only a matter of time before Ben knobbelized the older lady woman.

Yeah I watched it last night and tbh it was good but fairly predictable imo

It was obvious Ben was going to nail yer one, Also Kappos troubles are going to get worse and worse by the looks of things.

The two girls visiting New York were terribly annoying also!

Again, I'm really enjoying Cam & Domingo this season and I think Domingo doing the spray is brilliant - it'll push Renné big time so looking forward to seeing how that turns out.

It's a great show, really enjoy the characters and there are some good story lines. Also, this pic -> http://howtomakeitinamerica.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/lake-bell-3.jpg

    I actually hate her tbh

She has one pair of redeemable features and that's about it!

you dont like her hostile listening face?

I quite like her, I also like that her and Domingo's relationship is hitting the rocks already.

That storyline makes me hate her more! She has no clue what she wants...EVER

And her whiney-ness as a result of that bugs me - Domingo is a nice guy too so I'm annoyed she's sick of him already

    <SNIP> is a good source

    I certainly don't download it....that's wrong yo!

I shazamed the M83 Midnight City song.

Lake Bell is hawt, as is Gina Gershon...go Ben!

I love the zeitgeist of this show and how it's rooted in NY. Visually, it's a masterclass of how to make good TV.

    +1

I generally "shazam" at least two songs from each episode

While on the subject of music and HTMIIA, do you know that the guy that plays Domingo is a quite famous hip hop artist by the name of Kid Cudi?

Also, here's a track about Luiz Guzman :D

In general the music picked up and used in the show is quite good.

Anybody who didn't know Domingo was Kid Cudi is off my Christmas card list for sheer ignorance!! :pac:

It seems to be a signature on some HBO programmes - on Entourage as well, there would be a different song as the end credits rolled.

I really hope they're going to make a 3rd series of HTMIIA

The same music people also worked on Entourage. On Entourage they had lots of songs before they were leaked/available to the public which went on to be large. The one that sticks out the most was Shutterbug by Big Boi.

No season 3 confirmed as yet.....
