Get a G36 instead, M4 and AK are common and boring

Why does this question keep coming up? Its like saying which is better "Ice cream or pie"? They both have their good points and flaws. :)

    Wish i could!
Just after getting a loan of a friends Ak47, - he just bought an M4. The Ak's not a bad rifle, high ROF but the ability to add an acog & 203 isn't as good compared to the M4

ROF greatly depends on what brand, upgrades and battery. The AK can also be equipped with a rail for mounting sights on. In airsoft an underbarrel grenade launcher is a heavy expensive ornament that makes your gun awkward and front heavy which occasionally functions as a one shot big dirty shotgun. You can buy underbarrel launchers for the AK easily.

to be honest both AEGs are pretty much the same on the inside and work in the same way. the ROF and FPS are dependant on the manufacture and model you buy, not to mention type of battery used. Best bet is to buy the one you like the look of and then go from there.

Both AEGs are stupidly customisable, M4 is slighlty easier to do with RIS rails but its up to you

The most reliable aeg iv ever owned was a cyma ak47! With over 300,000 bb's through it with out a jam, stoppage or even a blown fuse, I couldn't fault it!

Get the M4, cos if you get the AK you'll be supporting terrorism.

:D nah but id go with the M4 for ergonomics and the AK for a better designed gearbox. really depends on the brand of the guns you are comparing though.,

If someone posts a link to that M4 AK hybrid I will boil thier eyes in the urine of phractal and serve it in a temple barf takeaway...

Personally, both guns perform rather similarly. There is no real advantage or disadvantage, the OP wants one or the other, not 'oh they are boring get an aug/g36/mp5/sig/new toaster.

    AK

    Advantages:

Hopup is one of the most stable in airsoft
    v3 gearbox... nice, stable
    good long barrel, 460mm
    comfortable to shoot and shoulder
    good iron sights
motor cage - rarely locks anti reversal latch, partly due to motor stability, partly due to v3 design

    Disadvantages:

    big mags
no ris (I'm being practical, i'd put this in advantages personally!)
    limited batteries depending on model
    long gun

    M4

    Advantages:

    Huge variety of option parts
    easy to customise
    medium length weapon
    ajustable stock length for shooter
    easy to add accessories
    smaller mags
common: Can share mags in the field if you run out
    comfortable to shoulder

    Disadvantages:

not one of the best hopups
gearboxes have been known to shear the front off with heavy use
lack of motorcage - Prone to occasionally locking the anti reversal latch on low battery operation
If you are into hicaps, the mags are small... 300 rounds vs ak 600

Overall, the two have thier share of pros and cons. I tried to keep that as impatial as possible to advise you without bias. Personally? I own both... I like both equally. The 'lol ak suxor' and 'm4 is lego gun of capitalist' crap from both camps is annoying. I use m4s for american loadouts, AKs for russian ones... Both are good dependant on brand, and both can be bad. Overall... Its down to your personal choice. At this FPS limit, both operate and perform pretty much identically. So which do YOU like more?

    :)

The AK47 in airsoft is the type 3 generation, obsolete, TM chose it for god knows what reason and others followed suit.

The most popular real ak is the AKM, the model just after ak47 type 3, get a new cyma full steel akm with laminated furniture, it is THE ak of choice for the old school weapon. It is what you see on tv etc. and most call it ak47, but the AKM is the main one manufactured to this day in many countries with little variation.

The AKSU is a more modern compact model, popular in airsoft, then theres the whole ak74 series, and the latest 100 series, ak104 etc.

M4's are grand but common as muck, hence, I sold mine after two or so games and got a few ak's.

As much as I agree and I understood that Sam, these are philistines... they don't know the finer subtle details of the Kalashnikov.

In airsoft terms, every ak is the same internally pretty much bar mm in the barrel differences.

That looks brilliant., i'll make one when im in one of those stupid moods where i blow loadsa cash on silly things.
Anyone who saw the new Universal soldier film may have noticed they are using something similar as a primary weapon of the US soldiers.

You could buy the reciver from HuricanE :)

Im not sure if they are made anymore... but its deffinately already in existance, just slot the body in and roll. If you can find one on the spares market. Try uk forums, they come up occasionally.

Oddly enough, it was a real weapon design, but dropped becaues it sucked doggies danglers, and they managed to teach us special forces to use an AK instead of needing thier hand held by giving them thier m4 that took ak mags and rounds.

I know i cam get the parts, their just really expensive, for what they are. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

the full kits are still about not to hard to get hold but just as masda said expensive, only meant to have been 12 made in real life for use in tora bora until they realised that us forces could just use an akm instead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,023 ✭✭✭chris20

i think i seen some of the kits going on ebay

Em, isn't there some problems with mag well differences that mean you have to be careful picking magazines for your AK?

Only some kalash aks were funny but its easily sorted.

the early dobys aks had a slightly longer magazine catch, all you need to do is fill down the catch and all mags will work without issue, the newer models of dboys ak seem to have fixed this problem, its nothing massive and easily fixed

The story about the SR47 reminds me of the story about the story during the cold war where americans spend thousands on research for a pen that would work in space so they could write...
where the russians simply said "paper... pencil"

I'll try to be a little constructive to this thread and start by giving a few pointers:

    1. Go into your nearest Airsoft shop and pick up every replica they have. I mean EVERY ONE. Make a note of which ones you thought were the most comfortable.
    2. Try out the mags. Do they go in okay? Would you be happy to carry 8 of the bad boys or would you just go with a few high-caps? Think capacity too (the aforementioned 600rd AK/300rd M4 mag). Also think about batteries and after-market parts.
    3. Do you want to strap crap to your replica? Do you NEED a front vertical handguard, laser sight, PEQ box, M203, master-key, kitchen sink, etc.? (N.B. You can get most of these as AK versions so don't fret if you want any of them. Just get a MTK-83 for mounting western optics or a Kobra red dot, PS0-1 scope. Or swap out the handguards for RIS rails or Romanian vertical handguards).
    4. If you're on a team, what will the other lads and lasses be using? You might have to use their mags in an emergency (this probably isn't that important but worth keeping in mind).
    5. What do you like the look of? I happen to think AK-74s are the coolest things since... well, anything! (Unfortunately I'm between AEGs at the moment :()
    6. Do you want long or short replicas? For instance, an M4 is shorter than most AKs, but you can get an AK-105 if you like Carbine length replicas, AK-74 for M16 length or AKS-74Us for M4CQB/MP5 length.
It's not much but I hope it helps. :)

    EDIT:
    AK-74M (Awesomesauce, in my opinion):

i have both and in my opinion the ak 47 is the better gun. the m4 breaks too easily and has more performance issues

i have both and in my opinion the ak 47 is the better gun. the m4 breaks too easily and has more performance issues

That's not exactly helpful. I'm sure a plastic JG AK will be more likely to explode than a G&G M4 so that's not exactly fair. ;)

I prefer AKs and I think M4s are boring but better...?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

How does a gun become boring though?

I know a load of other things have been mentioned as reasons why AK fans dislike the Armalite, but boring? Its not a Nintendo DS....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

hear the m4 being described as boring before lots of times :) when 4 out of 5 people on a site have one it does become that way, defiantly saturation point :P same has i;ve heard the ak being described as plain and boring at time, just down to individuals view

Gah.. Because I think that they look boring. They are ubiquitous. It's an opinion and it's just as valid as yours (i.e., not). Let's not turn this into a "them/us" thing. It leads nowhere.
