Good idea this. I read lots of books and never keep a record of what I've read or even who the author was so this should be useful.

I'll start with the latest one that I've just started: Magician by Raymond E Feist. I have a sneaking suspicion that I've already read this book as all the names are familiar to me but it must have been a long time ago as I can't remember the details so happy days!

I'm just finishing off a couple as well:

    Marijuana Times by Ken Lukowiak

Book 5 of the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan

    Watchers by Dean Koontz

The Irish Male : His Greatest Hits by Joseph O Connor

    Magician

    Breaking Vegas by Ben Mezrich

I'm going to make a list too, easier to look back over:

    Watchers Dean Koontz
    Marijuana Times Ken Lukowiak
    Magician Raymond E. Feist

I'm in the middle of one of my reading slumps at the moment. Just finished 'Twelve Days on the Somme' by Sidney Rogerson. A bit of a different take on the horrors of the trenches. Quite short at 172 pages so worth a look. In the middle of 'Wuthering Heights' by Emily Bronte at the moment and loving it.

I've just finished Wuthering Heights and thought it was brilliant. I never knew what it was about and I'm glad I didn't because it was different from my expectation. Loved it! :)

Next up, The Curious Case of Sidd Finch by George Plimpton

Recently finished the Plimpton and O Brien books. Wasn't too taken with O Brien but the Plimpton one was enjoyable enough. Next up The Human Stain by Philip Roth. I've read about 50 pages and I'm enjoying it so far. I also picked up At Swim Two Birds by Flann O Brien because I don't want to give up on him after one book. Let the reading commence......

    QUOTE]

Finished the Roth book recently. Loved it. Enjoyed the writing style immensely and am definitely going to check out a few of his other books.
I've started At Swim Two Birds and I have to say that I'm not getting in to it at all. I'm even considering () giving it up, something I very seldom do with a book. This may have something to do with the fact that I picked up a book recently at a book fair called 'Salmon Fishing in the Yemen' which, from reading the first 50 or so pages, looks funny. The fact that I know that I have a book which I know I'll enjoy waiting for me is making it harder to soldier on with ASTB. I'll give it another while and if it doesn't grab me then it's bye bye birdie and hello fishie.

Thank Christ I've finally finished that Flann O Brien book cos it was seriously doing my head in. I can see why O Brien is praised by people but I just did not enjoy that book and I'll never read anything by him again. I just do not find his style or humour in any way engaging. At least I tried, even though I came as close as I ever have to giving up a book after 100 pages.

Next up, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Looking forward to this as I had a sneaky read of the first 50 or so pages when I bought it and it seems entertaining. Mind you, the back of a cereal box would seem good after the drivel that was ASTB.

Finished SFITY. Enjoyable book even though I thought it flagged a bit in the last third. Next up is Look at the Harlequins by Vladimir Nabokov. Looking forward to this as I have heard some good things about Nabokov.

Finally finished Look at the Harlequins. Didn't really like it. I'm also hardly reading at all at the moment. God knows how long it'll take me to read Roots at this pace.

Finally finished Roots. An enjoyable enough yarn. Bit of controversy over the book as to its authenticity but I quite enjoyed it. Next up 'A Short History of Nearly Everything' by Bill Bryson. Looking forward to this as it's had some good reviews.

Reading the next Harry Potter book now. Have the whole series but don't know if I'll read them all in one go. I'll see if I get sick of them.
Thank God for finding Sue Townsends Adrian Mole book. Laugh out loud book and brought back good memories of when I first read her Adrian Mole books.

Haven't updated this in a while so I've stuck in the ones that I can remember. There may be a couple of others but at the moment I can't remember them.
Currently reading Postcards by E. Annie Proulx. Only about 50 pages in but seems good so far.
Of the above newly added books TTTWife was probably my favourite. Took me ages to finish Moby Dick. Just couldn't get in to it at all.
I'll probably read one or two more of the Harry Potter books after that. Needed a break after two in a row and as they're getting quite long now I'll probably just read one and then take another break.
I've been reading a lot more now that I'm on holidays from college. Was only reading bits when I was studying for exams but I'm back up to full speed now.

Hi MOL I read The Irish Male and there were some laugh out loud moments in it, the big skinhead in the east end pub if I remember.

His observations of an Irish man in London were good but I felt it ran out of steam towards the end padding about the Irish football team. An easy light hearted read though.

How many Miles to Babylon was different to a lot of WW1 stories but I read it some years ago and took it at face value yet I understand there are underlying themes so must google and revisit with a different view.

I like Joseph O Connor for a bit of a laugh. Good light-hearted entertainment.

How Many Miles..... was different from other war stories and I thought it was excellent. I think the short novel can be a difficult one for an author but this came across as effortless. I am always pleasently surprised when a book is different from what I expected and this was certainly the case here.

Have you read From Here to Eternity? I read it after How Many Miles...... and loved it. Highly recommended.
