Hi, my friends and I are total novices at cycling any great distances yet we are doing our own charity cycle in a months time from dundalk to carraroe in galway (about 180 miles to be done over 3 days). Can anyone offer useful advice on what levels of fitness we will have to be at, any aids for training (we are working during the week), equipment or any other tips that will make this do-able for us beginners. Thanks Ciaran.

Your main issue with doing that in "a month" will be inclement weather conditions. It's not the ideal time of year. As for fitness, ideally you would want to be doing a reasonable percentage of that sort of distance already. Are you happy cycling 60 miles/100km in one day as it is? And how do you feel the next morning- do it again?

Are you carrying all your own stuff or do you have someone carrying it for you in a van. Do you have a route plotted and are there any hills? What sort of bikes are you using?

    It's certainly doable.
