i probably wouldnt say it's the most effective method, but it's certainly effective, cheap, and easily done. if you think that running is almost certainly more effective than walking, and i've found skating to and from work has made a big difference for me... but it's certainly a great place to start :)

I don't know about the best, but walking can certainly be effective when combined with a good diet. My mother lost 50 lbs by simply eating healthy and walking 6.5 kilometers 4-5 times a week. Walking is also a staple in my exercise regimen, as I have a joint disorder that rules out high impact exercise like jogging.

Walking probably won't get you in peak physical condition, and you won't see results as quickly as if you ran. But it's still very beneficial, and it doesn't hurt to try!

Yes I think it is. Well, it works really well for me anyway. I wouldn't be a fan of running. But I love having a good long walk listening to some music.

Maybe someone more experienced in fitness might correct me but if you want to get into running I'd say start with walking to get started. Also remember to stretch beforehand, no point in causing yourself an injury on the first attempt as it would start off negatively and you don't want that. :)

May not be the best(that would probably be alternating cardio and weights) but it's the best way to get started if you aren't a fitness buff.

Depending on your aerobic fitness tbh, The average person walking is great for as it is the fat burning zone, jogging/running generally increases yer yer aerobic capacity which will let you train for longer, while hard sprints and explosive exercise will increase anerobic ability.

There's a whole science thing to it, I'd go grab my books but I'm knackered so will do it tomorrow or monday when I'm rested up if thats any good?

Never do static stretches for cold muscles. Dynamic stretches where you give your arms and legs a shake are ok.

I know some people who have lost some weight through walking alone. At various stages I would have done a lot of walking and hillwalking but i have never personally found it much good for losing weight.

I have found that it would keep my weight stable and maybe lead to a small weight loss over a few months.

Without a change in diet I dont think its an effective way of losing weight , its certainly not the best way of losing weight. I guess it depends on you current level of fitness, it might be a good place to start.
