Wow, Download is really going downhill....I mean they have big names, money making names, ticket selling names....but it's nothing special, and if this is an indication of where the summer line-ups are going I won't be heading abroad this year

Thats a very solid lineup so far. If the other headliners are to believed, it'll be between Metallica, Van Halen and Soundgarden. It'll still be highly solid, if not spectacular. With the competition existing between festivals, it does have a sturdy lineup with only 9 there.

To compare this and Sonisphere, well, the latter only has Maiden and Rammstein, this has Ac/Dc, TCV, Deftones, Megadeth, STP, BFMV(ultimate guilty pleasure...at least 3 years ago), WOlfmother...all bands I want to see, and then Motorhead if they wouldn't clash.

Download last year was INCREDIBLE, there was an amazing line-up that will be hard to beat this year. We went with RIP and the oppertunities we got with it were great

So far I'm already stupidly hyped-up for Deftones so I'll DEFINATELY be going! Can't wait to see who the rest are though, hopefully it'll be good! :pac:

Wouldn't agree with that Mush, the lineup for Sonisphere is at least as good if not better than the Download one so far...
Motley Crue - Alice Cooper - Slayer - Anthrax - Fear Factory ........
prob just a matter of tastes but I'd take that over the Download lineup so far - of course it would depend on the next few announcements, but I've yet to see a fest lineup that really excites me....we'll see...

Yeah, is just tastes. Give me the Download lineup over Sonisphere(bar headliners) any day.

Highly unlikely. Sure Deftones, STP and TCV are higher up on the list already.

BFMV will be headlining the 2nd stage . There is an article floating around quoting them saying they will be headlining the 2nd stage

Ok, so Monday is when (according to Download Facebook page) they will announce their two headliners asides from AC/DC

Being honest, a safe bet would be Bon Jovi, Guns N Roses, Sound Garden...or perhaps Pearl Jam at an outside chance....maybe Blink 182

I would love to see some more good bands announced because I'm tempted to go but right now it would just be for Megadeth

    What do you guys think?

I pay the whole price and go just for STP

Sweden Rock Festival is on 9-12th. I'd say you could see bands playing both except Slayer who are only doing Sonisphere

Hi, i plan on going to download 2010 and i was just wondering what the best way to travel to it from ireland is. anyone who has gone in previous years and knows the best airport to get into/what trains to get/ and all that could be a huge help.

    cheers :D

Never been myself either but will be doing my best to get ther from Cork.
Savage line-up in fairness and i think it could get even better considering Donington Park is celebrating 30 years of concerts this year.

You can fly from Knock to East Midlands(closest airport) with Ryanair.
I think they do shuttle buses from there.Maybe someone with past experience might know more.

Any one any advice on getting there from Cork.
Flying from Dublin is a last resort because the times of flights from Cork to Dublin don't suit.

Travelling out on the Friday morning and back on the monday night would be handy aswell although I realise this may not be feasible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,853 ✭✭✭Beekay

Have been there twice before, easiest way is fly to east midlands airport.
They do have shuttle buses on or its about 20 - 30 minute walking distance from the airport aswell if you're feeling energetic.

Walked back to the airport before, which is pretty handy if you want to kill some time and have a nice stroll. Another time we didn't get the specific download shuttle bus but flagged down one of the car park transfer buses and the nice bus driver picked us up!

Its probably one of the easiest fests to get to!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭Lucifer31

As above, it's must be the easiest festival to get to abroad. The airport and racetrack ground back on to each other. A 2k walk if you wish, or a taxi will probably be poassible (got one before). Was there in 05' & '06. Went to Wacken in '07, '08 & '09. Goin' to Download this year again. Have a good one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭don101

cheers everybody, will try and get a plane to the east midlands airport!:D

the walk is nothing from the airport, I dont know why more people dont walk it, you'll just spend ages waiting on a taxi, walking to the local town though, dont bother with that, thats long!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,799 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Sorry to take the thread slightly off-topic, but can anyone tell me price of drink at the festival? May end up going to this, it is quite tempting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 459 ✭✭PattheMetaller

We're flying from Belfast to East Midlands Airport. We're too oul for camping though :P so are staying in Derby. There's shuttle buses every half hour or so from Derby to Donington

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

AC/DC, Rage, Aerosmith... that's three really solid headliners for me there. Will definitely be considering this... I'll hold out for the next lineup announcement and also until Graspop announce their other two headliners.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,179 ✭✭✭FunkZ

AcDc, Rage, Megadeth, Aerosmith and I'm well fcukin' sold.

Think I'll go if I can get a few mates to go too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 146 ✭✭YipYipU

Excellent line-up. Done Graspop last year and Rock Im Park the year before, so if it's half as good as either of those then I'll be happy.

Transport: If the Ferry is possible I'd go for that option. A car and four passengers is working out a lot cheaper than four flights to East Midlands. 3 hour drive from Holyhead, two tanks of fuel should get you there and back, split four ways the cost isn't so bad.

Also we were lucky enough to get tickets for the RATM free gig in London on June 6th so roll on Summer, it's gonna be one to remember.

    PS: OXEGEN SUCKS!!!

ac/dc makes this worth going, never mind the others (which are great aswell) for me theres nothing poor about it..

I'll try get a few m8s to go anyways :D

a decent announcement. The fact that we had to wait so long and it was hyped so much makes it slightly disappointing though.

Line up not as strong as last year though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 411 ✭✭HBK

Thats a piss poor announcement if I'm honest!

Hyping a 22 band announcement then to come out with 3 or 4 bands actually worth it? (Airbourne,Dillinger & Steel Panther)

It smells to me like all the money has been spent on the headliners, and its filler from here on in! Lets hope I'm wrong.

Also correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the first year they are doing day tickets? Will attract all the knackers. Need to sell the extra 30k tickets somehow I suppose!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 172 ✭✭xo_CHEWY_ox

they had day tickets last year aswell AFAIK

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Smellyirishman

Horrible annoucement and waiting so long to give it to us has only made things worse. While the headliners are strong, the rest leaves a whole lot to be desired (especially looking at last year). Plus, all the other reasonable bands are clashing with mainstage bands. Considering selling up now for a spot at Hellfest.

PS; They've done day tickets for a number of years now.

PPS; What's with the TDEP fanatics? Am I missing something?

Out of 22 bands I'd wanna definitely see only 1 and even then they clashing with TCV!

So are the listings on the poster the actual slots Mush ?
I never take too much notice of the listings until they put times beside them, too often make early decisions that turn out of be mistakes.....

I don't know, I've always enjoyed watching Saxon, Y&T are an excellent live band (but seem to be on with a strange mix of bands, think they'd fit in nicely on the Sunday).......and Whitechapel (imo) are one of the better Death Metal bands around at the minute.........I think it's an unusual line up for Download, but there are definitely worse line ups out there this summer....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

It was a so-so announcement, not great, and the long wait was annoying for what was mostly small acts (really don't care much for HIM or Coheed and Cambria). I felt the lineup needed to be beefed up with at least one "big" act on the main stage, like Deep Purple or something.

Think this is the earliest they've released day tickets as well, in recent memory.

Well it has been confirmed TCV, Deftones & STP are sub-headliners, with BFMV, 30STM and SS 2nd stage headliners. Can't see anyone slotting into space between C&C and BFMV, will be slight overlap more than a clash. So its not definite, as there are spaces to be filled, but not too many that'd affect higher positions.

I was expecting Paramore, MAstodon and Porcupine Tree in that announcement.

And yes, Y&T are a band I wanna get into actually.
