Is there anyone on here who is a member of either Kingfisher gym in Galway?

My annual renewal is coming up and as I paid EUR450 last year I am wondering if anyone else has managed to push the good people who run these gyms down to EUR400 or below for the year ahead.

    All responses appreciated.

I was having this discussion with a number of people today who are also members.

None of us are renewing our membership.

    1. you can't have dual membership in Kingfisher, NUIG.
    2. Even though they say there are free classes, they charge for all the good onces and all the free ones are crap and/or at times that don't suit.
    3. They're asking CRAZY money, in these times for membership, at a time when most other people are dropping prices they're trying to raise their prices.
    4. Days hotel, now the Carlton are doing membership for a couple for 600/year, in other words, 300 each.

well, if they did, fair play to them. It must've taken all manner of threats, wrangling and arguments.

I can't stand the b*ollox-ology of this as well. Where they have a price but you have to threaten, cajole, jump hoops to get a discount.

If they had a decent reasonable price that didn't budge people would sign up to go the gym.

One of the sales people rang my pal the other day and insisted that they didn't possibly drop below a certain price for her, when they did and she had the receipt in her hand to prove it.

Once she stated that, it was all "oh well, I've just started working here, I don't really know"...

Honest to god, that just drives me up the walls. Decent service, decent price please people... not treating your customers like dirt and trying to rip them off at every opportunity [/rant]

Where did you see/hear that? On their website, the prices are much higher than this.

I know of two couples that got this deal.

The first one just rang up and haggled till they got the offer.

I told the second couple about the first couple, they contacted the Carlton about this and they rang them and got offered the same deal.

Really? Now that IS interesting........and do you happen to know if they are restricted to off peak hours etc?

Would be half tempted at that price but no way am I paying 600 per person for the year. I do want somewhere with a pool, had considered the new one in Salthill hotel but prices seem v high.

The Day's hotel pool/gym used to be lovely in its day, have the Carlton kept it up to date?

No, there was absolutely no restrictions.
I'd call them up and say that you're only willing to pay 300. Everything is open to negotiation.

I really don't know if it's up to date or not as I'm not a member there. I'm sure if you gave them a call they'd send you out a few free passes.

So how will we play it on the Kingfisher renewal?
I think I'll ask for EUR350 - reduction from EUR450 last time out.
    Anyone else renewed recently?

Cheers for that info re the Carlton.

As for OP, I'd offer them 350 on a take it or leave it basis. They'd be probably mad to refuse, seen as the majority of people I know who always joined a gym are not doing so this year. Numbers must surely be down. Best of luck, let us know how you fare please :)

I think you have to decide on a price that you're happy with and just stick to your guns.

Was offered EUR399 on a take it or leave it basis.
Asked for EUR349 - he said he couldn't go that low.
I left it at that for today - may or may not renew at this stage.
