You are a bit confused on the html5/Wordpress stuff. They are not in the same layer ie. kind of separate technologies. Keeping it simple if I may... Wordpress is a platform whose system produces html code( and other stuff). WP can produce html5 no problem if you set it up for that, with html5 being the most up to date version of html, via the chosen theme and plugins. So there is no need for any more than a single version of your site using WP to produce html5. Having what sounds like a static html5 site coded up without WP and having a WP version is an unnecessary duplication which should be avoided for many reasons. Just make it a html5 site produced by WP.

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated.

Looking to start a business were 99% of the traffic will be coming from facebook and will be online sales. I have no idea about websites so from looking on google, this would be an ecommerce website? What are the cost associated with building, running such a website and is there a yearly cost for domain names.

    Hi everyone.

I've always had an interest in web design/coding and quarantine has offered me the opportunity to look a little further into the possibilities of turning it into a career. I have signed up for quite an in-depth web design course and seeking a sponsor to subsidise the course fees. In return, said client will receive a self-hosted website to their specifications and communication throughout the duration of the course. If this is something you are interested in, please send me a PM.

There will be a number of costs relating to your site

Domain name - Yearly cost approx €10 for a .com or €25 approx for .ie.
Two hard to say for hosting, it will depend on how much traffic you are expecting, how many products your selling etc etc etc.

You could set up a bog standard wordpress site with a shop plugin your self or you could hire someone to design you a bespoke site with all the bells an whistles that could set you back 000's.

If you want any help coming up with a website plan drop me a line.

Hi all. I’m looking to put up a new website for online training and certification. Emphasis is on security of information, rather than online shopping etc. If you’re interested PM me and I’ll send you more details. Thanks

    Hi all

I have a Sports Analytics website and would like to go about hosting video/data on it rather than linking elsewhere.

Not sure how to go about this. It's a Wordpress website.

If anyone is interested, please let me know and you can use the WP-Admin etc

    Thanks

    Hey,

    I'd be interested.

Self hosting video is an expensive task, you will more than likely have to upgrade your hosting to accommodate the extra storage and bandwidth. Why do you want to self host?

Honestly man, it was just to get people to the site. Would have no problem with someone else hosting the video - I’m just not up on the correct verbiage ha.

Send you pm if you’d like?

I gather what you want is that the video is embeded on your own site as oppose to sending visitors elsewhere and losing out on the traffic. You don't want to self host, far too expensive for both server space and bandwidth that you would have with any typical hosting. Depending on the video and where its sourced from you could host it on you tube or vimeo and embed it but for a lot of video content you should probably look at a solution like Amazon AWS or similar and host it there.

My girlfriend is a GP who is setting up her own GP specialised service.

She wants to design a website for the service. The website would be something like this website. She would need a .ie domain name. She would need a booking (but not payment) service on the website.

Where does one start? Is Wordpress an option (but they don't offer .ie domains)? or would anyone recommend someone to build the site?

    Thanks.

Wordpress would be the way to go but stay away from wordpress.com. You can set up a wordpress site on your own hosting and with whatever domain name you wish including a .ie. Do you want the booking form to tie into the booking system which might take a bit of work. if its more of an inquiry form that would be much easer. Let me know if you need a hand with it.

Am I right in saying that the hosting provider gives you access to Wordpress tools online and you self-design your website from there? Is that how it works?

Would you recommend any particular hosting provider?

It has to be a booking option. It does not need to link into any big system but there needs to be the option for the owner to manually add bookings too. Does this require someone with expertise in this?

Wordpress and Wordpress.com are two different things. Wordpress.com is using their platform and hosting - avoid that, you want to have your own .ie domain.

Wordpress is an option is you are doing a self build, another would be Squarespace. Both have a bit of a learning curve but if you or your girlfriend have the time to go through tutorials etc then its possible. There are plenty of plugins available that integrate in with WordPress, appointment booking ones such as Amelia or Calendly. Really if you plan to go down the self build route it comes down to time going through tutorials and a bit of technical know how when it comes down to setting up the domain, the hosting and then generally having an eye for design for the content and layout of the website and using the right tools for the job. It will take time and effort and while its a cost cutting approach the resulting website will probably do fine in the short term but eventually need an upgrade to improve on the design, the UX and get it to the standard that will match her competitors.

Or hire someone who knows what they are doing and she can spend the time getting the rest of her business up and running and focusing on what she does and knows best. I mean I could self diagnose an ailment at home on the internet or I could go to a specialist GP who is qualified and trained.

Also hosting recommendations arent allowed on boards to answer your question on that.

    Thanks Axwell.

Understood that a self-build is not an advisable option for the reasons that you mentioned.

Understood that recommendations are not allowed. I will go back over the adverts on this thread as a starting point.

    Cheers.

Most hosting will allow you to install wordpress, then its a matter of setting up a theme on the wordpress to your satisfaction, it also gives you a platform to add pictures / text / pages.

As its a booking page you want you only have two options, either have wordpress feed into your existing booking software OR use your website's booking system for all bookings, otherwise the client will be booking on your site for a time that may well be already booked directly through the practice

Just to add to whats above
    https://wplessons.com/wordpress-org-v-wordpress-com/

For booking software Id go with a 3rd party, usually at a set monthly fee or whatever. There's loads of them out there. Imo Its easier to implement something like that on your website and at least have some form of customer support to fall back on if its needed,
Be wary of hosts, that's a fair few bad ones out there, id rather pay for good hosting then go with a cheap one that promises you everything but doesn't deliver
If you need any help then just ask

    Hi all

Need: Looking for someone who has experience in building an API. This API would need to be accessible for users where they can pull items such as Schedules, Results, Rosters, Team Info etc for some Sports and Leagues within them. Client base would be Media etc

Data will likely be created and updated using excel but I’d be open to other suggestions on that.

Ideally the API would be accessible through my main website (hosted on Wordpress)

Budget: Budget would be €250-€300 but I’m very open on that.

Hi all, I have a BA in design and over the last two years have been adapting these skills to UI and UX design through various courses in front end programming and Ui design. In 12 months time I will be completing my Masters of Science in UX. In the mean time I would like some experience working or getting any kind of insight I can in graphic design or Web design as an unpaid intern. If anyone reading can assist or point me in the right direction you would be giving me a massive opportunity I'd be extremely grateful for. Advise also very welcome.

    Thank you 🙂

    HI all

I am looking for someone who loves multimedia and is maybe looking to get started in the business. Someone with a good design eye for the front end and can sort out the technology backroom stuff too. You don't need to have the specific experience, but you must be able to figure out whats needed and get it done. So CAPABLE and KEEN are more important than what you have done in the past.

I am creating an online course and need someone who I can push all the techie stuff onto. This is a feasibility project to find out if there is a demand for my course. Ideally I will produce the content and you do all the technology bits.

I want someone with social media marketing (IG) skills and also knows their way around the backroom technology including: video editing, setting up emailer, etc etc. I don't have an exact spec because I am not a techie but I know what I need to be able to do technically. So the person will have a range of skills in bolting the various apps together.

I will be using thinkific and integrating the apps into their platform. There are lots of resources available from thinkific and this is a well trodden path. I am not inventing anything new, I am just setting up on their platform.

If you are going to advise me that I need a website, do not contact me -the answer is NO!

My goal is to get this up and running without investing thousands to prove the need. I am open to hourly rate or job prices whichever suits but this is not a blank cheque opportunity. I would use fiverr but I want someone in Dublin who I can give the unedited videos to and who can connect the various pieces to get it up and running in the next few weeks.

If you are capable and keen, then lets talk: dm me here (I don't know if you can do that!), or contact me on ig @niall.con.7

    Niall

I realise that in developing a multimedia website there's not much point in reinventing the wheel and much of the technical side can be inspired by what's on other websites in the same business. That being said, I don't know the technical differences between the websites. People on Fiver are saying they can do professional WordPress, UI UX and other such websites. What would be best for the following needs?

I'm going to set up an educational website which can offer online classes, accept payments, and have access to the required resources such as notes, podcasts and videos for paying students. It would be vital that the online teaching technology is reliable, needless to say. Would anybody know enough about this area to be able to create a functional, reliable, professional website with all of the above (that can also be accessed from mobiles)?

If anybody might have a design vision/sample work and ballpark prices please message me. Thanks very much.

Looking for someone to do a redesign of my business' website

It needs a bit of an overhaul as so much that's on it is not relevant to the business

Preferably it stays via Wordpress as I'd be able to amend things a bit in the future on it

All info on it is static and is an informational website

    Thanks
