MAD MEN

I couldn't find any threads on this and very surprised its does not have its own main thread while so many lesser shows do. Even bloody Chuck Norris has his own thread!

Anyway, I got Season one as a gift and thoroughly enjoyed it. Season two was even better. The acting is superb. Don Draper is the kind of guy women and men love. Suave, sophisticated, mysterious, macho all in one. Joan Harris-what can I say? She has single handedly brought back the value of a curvaceous woman. Sterling is interesting too. He has that World weary look-he just does not want to grow old gracefully. He is funny and compliments Don's character as a sort of a father figure. He avoids (somehow) coming across as a Leery old fellow.

Im just at the end of season two and while it was
inevitable that Don got caught out-still like to know why he is such a womaniser-is it just sex? With Betty at home-why is he cheating!!? As for that guy Peggy got pregnant by Pete Campbell. The guy is smarmy personified and in my view a weak (drama wise) listless character

Not sure if that's the reason.Think its just hard for RTE to fit it into schedule. Now with Digital boxes you can just ask it to record all episodes. So no longer matters to me what time its on!

Great show. As for Pete Campbell I love watching him! He's so obsessed with his own gains but he never sees the bad in what he does? I think the show needs him, even just for the weird comic value that i get from him!!

In fairness it's hard to search for due to board's poxy three letter search restriction.

Terrific show of course. And S3 had one of those great finales that only the Wire could pull off previously.

without doubt my favorite show on tv at the moment (and i like alot of shows)

everything about it is just brilliant. the acting, the set, the costumes...Don Draper is just a brilliant character and Jon Hamm is perfect for him (he is also ridiculously good looking :) ) but everyone has a part in the show and the writing is brilliant...

    roll on season 4!!!

Definitely my favourite show on tv at the moment...and fast becoming my favourite show ever!

The complexity of the characters - (Don Draper is such an enigma), the portrayal of such differing women, the depiction of the era, the insight to the advertising industry, the fashion...there's just so much to love!

I've already watched the whole third series, but it was so good that i'll be watching it all over again on RTE...even if it is on ridiculously late!

The wife and I are just at the end of the second series. Don is obviously the most interesting character. He reminds me of Cary Grant. At this stage I would like a better insight into him. All the other characters are appealing except as already noted Pete.
Interesting story line for Salvatore-I was a bit shocked to see him with a wife. I know though its quite common for gay men to be married and even more so back then.
I read somewhere they have avoided a nod and a wink to the future historical trends. Essentially they portray it as it was without indicators to the future. Though I wonder if a Peggy type character did exist in Advertising back in the 1960s.

I'm taping Season three on the NTl/RTE but will wait for a few weeks to watch it as I dont think its good to watch a few episodes at one go. Its like knocking back a good wine quickly!

BBC4 kicks off their screening with a double bill from 10 pm on Wednesday and every Wednesday at 10 after that.

While I had heard of this show, I never got around to watching it until a couple weeks ago when I discovered that all of Season 1 & 2 are available on the RTE player (until June). So I started watching and just became totally addicted to it! I absolutely love it.

I feel like they have captured the period very well, and the way that they include what was happening politically / socially at the time. The characters are very well developed ... Don is such an intriguing character and I love the way they slowly tell us about his past. Pete is such a slimeball - like a petulant child when he doesn't get his way. Roger Sterling is just hilarious.

I also love the fashion, and the fact that everyone smokes & drinks all day ;). Makes me want to smoke when I watch it!

Def deserving of the award they got last week. Its a great show - get it and catch up people!!!

Don is what every male aspires to in terms of looks and character. Im just after finishing season two.
Think the sale of firm was foolish-will see how it pans out but obviously a good plot twist. Was good to see Betty down and dirty as well. I mean that in both ways-yes Im a dirty old man-who isn't?

    thread from the dead.

I just finished watching the last episode of Series 3, and I'm now depressed at the thought of nearly a year without it :(

The scriptwriters played it perfectly from a story-arc point of view as
The Sterling Cooper Gang stage a heist and steal the company, great to have Joan back! :)

    Roll on series 4.

Season 4 will be starting on July 25th in the States. That means it should be here on the 26th, if you catch my drift. I like to watch a few episodes together so I'll wait probably wait a few weeks and watch a few together. :)
