I am so outraged at this interview it warrants its own thread.. .

Why when Enda was about to make a valid point Ryan talked over him, yet when ever Ryan caught Enda on the hop he would sit back and wait for an anwswer and even got the aud behind him. . .

    Ryan, , , ur a disgrace. ..

    ur finished in my house

It was a proper interview. No point sitting there and asking him slushy questions. People will always complain about Ryan Tubridy.

Get a life, Enda couldn't even explain why he wouldn't go in with Sinn Fein

the man is a joke -he says sinn Fein need to talk * share power with the DUP, but he wont talk to sinn fein, a ginger hypocritical moron. he is the last thing this country needs

Very odd interview. Kenny seemed to think he was out for a casual chat and Tubridy was very snippy with him and would often interrupt him before he could even answer. Tubridy can't hide his bias during these interviews which is really unprofessional but that said Kenny seemed very unconvincing and unprepared. He seemed taken aback by how Tubridy went after him.

You're right. I thought he looked awkward right from the start. The problem for me is the way he was treated. It's not right. He's there to talk, so let him speak. This is one of our main current affairs outlets. It's a shame to see it being so unashamedly biased.

I actually think any serious interview for RTE should be taken from Ryan,, ,

A TV interview needs t be unbiased, out of professionalism and a respect for the wider democratic process.

    Bottom line. Tubridy. ****.

Everyone is just angry because Ryan is a Fianna Failer. He gave Enda an interview that you'd expect anyone to give to a major political party leader.

What is annoying me is that people are forgetting so easily the interview he gave to Cowen, and the grilling Ryan gave him. It's as simple as going on the boards site for that night to see all the praises Ryan gets for giving him a hard time. Heres the page:

Imagine if Ryan had asked Cowen if he was depressed and had turned to alcohol......

Oh he did, Enda was creating more questions than answers with his replies.

agreed, odd is the word. Contrast the snappy, impatient Ryan with Kenny compared to the previous front parlour platforms that he gave to Bertie and Cowen. Bertie gets to recount the Northern anecdotes, Cowen froths on about going forward together. Enda has to justify cumulative cabinet years, the Seanad debacle and the fact that NOT ONE of the big three southern parties will dally with Sinn Fein. I'm no Blueshirt, but Tubridy's treatment of Kenny was at best disrespectful, and at worst personal and partisan. No problem asking the tough questions, just deal it out fairly.

Yeah why not ask any Fianna Fail deputy the same question. Enda made a dogs dinner of justifying it, but in all honesty if he just said that their economic policies are unsuitable for a small open economy like the republic he would have safely blocked it. Sinn Fein's A-team are competent at administering the state sector dominated 1.5million large province to our north. The trouble is that the establishment down here don't appreciate the strong urban community organisations that the shinners can rally for elections. Some of these groups wouldn't be your typical middle classish canvassers / activists that Labour, Fine Gael and FF'ers are comfortable with. As such, everyone likes Sinn Fein, as long as they stick to Ulster,

First off I haven't seen the interview yet but judging by the reactions it seems to have caused a bit of a stir.
I'm surprised by the faux outrage by some posters on here. If you had ever analysed Kenny's media performances you would know that he is a clumsy mess at the best of times. I honestly can't see how this man would inspire anybody. Remember the leaders debate at the last general election, Bertie made absolute mince meat of Kenny and bear in mind that was a completely impartial platform, no RTE bias as some here like to harp on about at every opportunity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,316 ✭✭✭Reginald P. DuM

It was indeed a bad interview, and in a way both participants are to blame.

From Tubridy's point of view, it should come as no surprise to any person with the slightest bit of good judgement that he'd made a bags of it. He is incompetent in this role as host of LLS, has been since day one. In his defence he is improving as the months go by, gone are the table tapping, the obvious nerves and the badly timed, for the sake of the audience gags. However his knack of interrupting guests, his condescension and sometimes his pure lack of feeling toward the guests still prevent him from ever making himself a worthy sucessor the Gay Byrne. And remember these are the traits that can't be taught, ya either got it, or ya don't, and Ryan doesn't.

For tonights interview with Enda Kenny, combine these failings with his utter blatant FF bias and it was never going to be pretty. Despite what he may say, the entire country knew that Tubridy had an agenda tonight, which was to dismantle Enda's credibility in as subtle way as possible. He failed thankfully, only serving to make himself petty and somewhat churlish.

Now onto Enda, it's true he didn't cover himself in glory tonight, but he did alright in the face of the interviewers toxic style. The question regarding Sinn Fein was a disapointment and to a man aspiring to be Taoiseach when it should have been bread and butter. Whats was wrong with telling the truth, especially since Tubridy was forcing the issue. We all knew the answer to the question. Enda won't go into government with Sinn Fein because they are a bunch of murdering scumbags, with blood on their hands. He was thinking it, he should have said it. Apart from that he will make a fine Taoiseach, he's an honest man at least, and that's something we have been scarce of in the last 30 years of Irish politics.

So pay no attention to this interview tonight, it served no purpose really. It was evident Tubridy would make it choppy for Kenny, but it was just as evident that in the process he'd make himself look the tool that he is.

I honestly can't see how you could comment on something you haven't seen. Common sense 101. Kenny's media performances are irrelevant. Practically all the comments here have been about Tubridy's handling of the matter, not Kenny's media hat.

It's actually important for a democratic state to have a fair and balanced media. This is the longest running chat show in the world. For it to display such a notable bias really is a cause for concern.

Too many posts here have been anti-FF or anti-FG. This problem is bigger than political mud slinging.

Kenny: superficial, supercilious, probably superfluous, in terms of FG's ability to win the next election, but ultimately - check that 60 degree smile - a sneer. Simply loves himself too much to be liked by anyone else.

The way the interview was done annoyed me. The blantant difference between the Cowen and Kenny interviews. It made me lose respect for Ryan. Fair enough he has loyalty to FF but he could have been a little more professional about it.

KennyAhern: ..... Simply loves himself too much to be liked by anyone else.

    FYP

And that slimeball got elected, so that's obviously not a criteria.

As for people commenting on "the grin" and avoiding direct answers, well he probably watched Ahern's interview and reckoned it was a requirement when dealing with Tubridy.

Tubs is a bit too fond of doing trashy interviews with celebs and pleasing the mob mass audience but he gives the political leaders (FF=FG same party to me)a drilling they so much deserve. Enda Kenny is fake and only a hardened hick blueshirts refuse to admit it. He must go for the simple fact that he is an idiot on strings. FG are not the alternative anyway,we are beyond rescue thanks to FG FF PD free market economic madness.
The DUP(KKK) in the north have moved toward SF and FG still linger on to the old civil war politics Republican versus Blueshirt. FG will win the next election because people are idiots and they want more of the same with a new name. but get rid of that twat quick.

Strange comment (BTW, what's "a fake" ? And should I report you for calling me a "hardened hick blueshirt", or should I just laugh it off as ill-informed bias ?).....the biggest fake that Tubridy interviewed was Ahern, and I can't find a similar comment about that interview from yourself......strange, that.
    rinty wrote: »

FF & PD, yes; but FG weren't involved in the off-the-scale madness.

If people wanted "more of the same" they'd vote FF.

And too many twats to choose from, really.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36 rinty

My hick remark was not aimed at an individual but a mindset. Ahern is fake and a liar but at least he can act in a fashion to please his yahoo supporters but Enda lol, Maybe he could get a part in Fair City as a background actor. FG are a modern right wing party of laissez-faire politics of the exact kind that got us in to this eternal hole. When i say Enda Kenny is fake i mean he cant act the part even with the help of his yanky method acting friends,he is too stiff and he acts like a hand muppet from Texas who rode into town on a donkey....I dont care who get in power FG Labor ok but not with him for a leader.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 812 ✭✭✭friendface

I just watched the interview after seeing this thread, but I honestly don't see what the fuss is about. I don't think Ryan shouted down Enda Kenny at any point. Enda made the point himself about not wanting a coalition with SF and when he was pressed for an answer, he gave a vague reply about republican activities in the North. It was pretty clear he wasn't prepared for that question which, in fairness, I think he should have been given the importance of the issue.

I actually thought Kenny came across fairly well during the interview for the most part. I do think he shot himself in the foot with his handling of the Sinn Féin question though.
