Regaining fitness quickly

For most of December, I lived a pretty sedentary lifestyle: the ice made me really reluctant to go running, and I'm not a member of a gym in Ireland (I live in one-a dem for'den countries). I was eating lots of awful junk food and drinking quite a bit.
Plus, I was travelling before all that, so I didn't have much time to exercise then either. Good fun, but it's time to make up for it.

What I'm wondering is, what's the best way to regain fitness fast? I usually prefer low-impact exercise (especially since it's so cold outside). Should I go for high intensity aerobic exercise (rowing, or high resistance cycling) for, say thirty minutes, or medium intensity for longer periods?

With high intensity, my heart rate hits 170-180 according to the bike (I'm a guy, mid 20's) and I'm covered in buckets of sweat once I'm done. Feels pretty good afterwards, though.

Meduim intensity feels like I could go as long as I want, say 90 minutes at maybe 155 HR. I could just kick back and watch TV on the exercise bike while I'm at it.

    Any recommendations?

yes, go with option one most of the time, nothing wrong with longer less intense cardio sessions but do them only if you have time after fitting in high intensity cardio and weights
