When you spend more than €15 in a newsagent, are you within your rights to assume you are entitled to a complimentary newspaper?

Shoplifting is acceptable when it is neccesary to do so to survive.

    Erm.. No

I often do it, nothing better than getting stuck into a free copy of the latest 'Empire' Magazine

never. its stealing and thats it. if you spent 1000euro in tescos they would still expect you to pay for a newspaper so dont try it in a small shop with a much smaller profit margin.

Whatever about taking a small number of nuts and bolts out of a packet in Woodies because you only need a few pence worth and don't need the other 4 euros worth while spending 50-60 euro on other items in Woodies. :D

No. Because by thieving the newspaper you have just wiped out what little profit margin the Newsagent made on the other €15 of goods.

So if its a large chain or franchise, who generate massive profits, thats when it is acceptable?

Why steal a magazine ffs? If it was a loaf of bread or a carton of milk it wouldn't be nearly as bad. You obviously don't do it out of necessity and there's easier ways to get a cheap thrill tbh

What exactly is confusing you? I mean is it 'socially acceptable' among your peer group?

Empire is hardly a newspaper, that mother costs about €8 doesnt it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 362 ✭✭Dancing_Priest

I'd say it's okay if and ONLY if you're doing to for the LULZ.

But I have paid for those items, well actually I get massively overcharged, which is why, sometimes, I award myself some 'Doni Discounts'

Thats the response you would be expecting to get from a priest ;)

Why the need to troll?? In the other thread you set up today you were outraged that a lady in her 30s doesn't wear a bra to work, now your saying it is ok to steal????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,184 ✭✭✭✭Pighead

Stealing is never the answer Doni. You must fight these urges you get to steal stuff. Ignore the evil voices in your frazzled head. Here's a Pighead pro tip. Next time you're going down to the newsagents carry two heavyish objects with you.

That way when the evil voices say to you "Lift the newspaper now Doni and stuff it under your jumper" you can reply "Sorry buddy, no can do, I'm carrying these heavyish objects".

Hey hey hey! Easy tiger. Doni mightn't be perfect but there's no need to call him a troll. He's admitting he steals which is an important first step towards his rehabilitation.

Just because you shout "troll" it doesn't mean to say it's true. Pighead once found a skull in the forest with huge devil horns coming out of it. Was convinced that he had just stumbled upon probably the biggest find this world has ever seen. Shouted out "Devil skull, Devil skull, Devil skull. It's the fcuking Devil's skull!" Miss Piggy came over to investigate, seen the skull and muttered "You're a dickhead Pighead, it's a deer skull.".

So as you can see, maybe he's not a troll. People who steal do exist and some of them even use the internet.

Don't want to be pedantic, but Tesco actually have much smaller margins than most small stores. Tesco (and dunnes and the like) make their money on cash. They buy everything on credit, sell it, leave the money in their a/c for 90 days or so, earning ridiculous interest, hnece the huge profit.

    FYI :)

Not condoning shoplifting at all though...

What are you going to ask next Doni?
When is it acceptable to trip up a blind person?
Is it ok to steal candy from a baby?

Jesus, I'm far from a witty & interesting thread starter but even my attempts are better than this.
