Split from Season 2 thread..... might as well start fresh!

oooohh.. any idea when it might start over here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,722 ✭✭✭anotherlostie

Oh great! Lost and Damages back together, and both relatively free of those annoying breaks. As per usual, the guest cast looks stellar.

I read somewhere that this will be the last season of Damages because, despite multiple awards and critical applause, it doesn't get the ratings to justify the production cost.

    Craig Bierko
    in for Season 3 :D

I'm excited for this to start. Season 2 started pretty slow compared to the first. Very curious to see what route they go with Patty vs Ellen now.

Solid enough opener. Good to see Rose Byrne looking a little less gaunt than she was last season.
Is it confirmed that this is the final season?

Next Tuesday - Feb 2nd RTE TWO 11.55pm

Why oh why is RTE hiding it here? Sky Plus to the rescue

Rose Byrne is a hottie extraordinaire!

Very excited to have this back and see where it's going to go. Tom

What's the story will spoilers in this thread btw? It's tagged correctly in the title.

Typical ****ing RTE. You have a genuinely quality show and you show it at some bloody ridiculous hour. Muppets.

I so agree!! I love this show and got my boyf into it in the last series (reminds me I still have to give him the box set of the first series...). Seen the advert for it on Wednesday night. So annoyed its on so late. The last series started a few weeks later on bbc1 so depending on time of it on bbc I might follow it then.

    Sooooooooo can't wait!! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,591 ✭✭✭Tristram

Definitely hook your bf up with the first season. Both seasons so far have been great but the first was better.

I have missed start of Damages... skybox messed up this week (feb 9 th) Was this the first episode on RTE of season 3 or was it already ep 2? Any chance of a repeat at some odd time? cant seem to find one:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,683 ✭✭✭DeepBlue

Was this the first episode on RTE of season 3 or was it already ep 2?
It's already at episode 2. Next Tuesday night will be the 3rd episode. No repeats on RTE afaik.
RTE are showing episodes of Damages just a week after they first air in the U.S. = pretty impressive.
Late time slot for Damages = not so impressive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 505 ✭✭✭annieoburns

Thanks for that! they had repeat last season. Maybe wait for it to appear on another channel, plot needs full attention from start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,683 ✭✭✭DeepBlue

This is shaping up to be a really good season - better than last year anyway.
It looks like Patty tried to
put a hit on yet another employee
   .

Also I'm glad they brought the detective back from last season played by Tom Noonan -
"Let's tell her" with gleeful laugh
    :D.

Good episode. Left me wanting more at the end, as per usual. Agree with above poster about the cop. Well played.

Hi folks, in case any of you missed an episode to date in Season 3, it starts on BBC1 NI tonight at 11:15pm - still not great time but way better than RTE.

I've watched the first 5 episodes of Season 3 online as I can't stay up that late on a school night (old age!). Season 3 looks better than 2 already, some interesting twists coming.

    Enjoy!

Fantastic episode. I love how manipulative Ellen is being and how she is playing her own game across the lines of the DAs office and Patty. As always, can't wait til next week!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,028 ✭✭✭✭ButtersSuki

I'm on Episode 7 online and it's really shaping up nicely so far. Some interesting twists coming and so far, we're back to the high standards of Season 1. Ellen is rapidly developing into Patty Junior - wait 'til you see how manipulative she starts to become!

hmmm, not too sure about this season

    season 1 - excellent

season 2 - too many twists, convoluted, contrived

season 3 - not enough twists, dull, slow-moving

Have I got it about right?

Stick with it donfers, there's a few twists for you right around the corner. Watched episode 9 around 7am this morning - it's getting better!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,028 ✭✭✭✭ButtersSuki

BIG twist in Episode 10! Saw it this morning......:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,591 ✭✭✭Tristram

Show just keeps on delivering. Hands down best thing on television these days imo. Loving it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,683 ✭✭✭DeepBlue

Episode 11 feels like the coldest, darkest episode so far. Lots of relationships get severed -
some more permanently than others .
    Great stuff :D.

Echo that, great episode, saw it very early this morning and still thinking about it. :)

God, the Marchetti family has been wiped out. Lily Tomlin was quite the bitch as Mama Tobin - she has wiped the floor with Campbell Scott who has been wooden all series. David's appearance was rather random, as was Ellen discovering her other mother. And Alex got booted rather abruptly, which again left me wondering why she was such a part of the story.

I really don't get the Ted Danson storyline unless he was contracted for each series. It adds nothing to proceedings as far as I can see apart from the wonderful Ray Fisk impersonation:). I'd much rather have seen more of Lennie's father, for instance.

Only 2 episodes to go, and I don't see the strands coming together as quickly as in previous series, so wonder how they will conclude it in time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,591 ✭✭✭Tristram

    Awesome as always!

    Only two left?!?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 505 ✭✭✭annieoburns

What is this about people watching 'online'/ Some of us are seeing it ( or not:()on RTE.... it seems to have been dropped from shedule last night but is there for next Tuesday :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,028 ✭✭✭✭ButtersSuki

Welcome to the world of RTE - where Killinaskully is primetime and Damages starts just before midnight. Unfort., I find online is the only way to watch it with this scheduling. Just watched Ep. 12, all coming together nicely though not as smoothly as I had hoped. Shame there's only 1 more episode left.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,683 ✭✭✭DeepBlue

Next week's finale will be 90 minutes long. They'll need it to wrap up all the loose ends they've generated.

Fantastic finale - won't spoil it for anyone but try and watch it. In total Series 3 is much better than 2.

Genuinely gutted to hear it's been cancelled. :(

Only in this world can Damages get cut and Killinaskully (admittedly ridiculous comparison) live on........

Guess I got some wrong info. It was 60 mins.
Genuinely gutted to hear it's been cancelled. :(
    Has it definitely been cancelled?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,028 ✭✭✭✭ButtersSuki

    Well it's normally just 40mins so 60 is a show and a half. :)

Tied up a lot of the loose ends which is a bad sign for its future.

Apparently it has been binned - poor figures which i know from keeping abreast of these things have been steadily declining. Damages is shown on monday nights in the US and late - doesn't help. Plus, it's on FX - again doesn't help. Yet it seems strange to me how producers/commissioners never seem to take DVD sales into account for these shows. Damages is/was brilliantly written, acted, shot and presented yet Jersey Shore gets more viewers! I'm always reminded of the Bill Hicks joke about how he's in a waffle bar somewhere in the South (US, not Munster :)) and the waitress asks him "What you reading for?". Well, to make my own anology, Mr. Hicks is reading Damages.

I don't get how a quality show like this gets the chop and Celebrity "insert random title here" shows flourish. I, like I'm sure most fans, discovered Damages on DVD (well, not strictly true, I originally discovered the 1st episode in a hotel in the US but you get the idea) and I'm constantly amazed by the amount of people who've never even heard of it. It was poorly promoted in the US and even more so over here. Still you can't blame RTE for its demise - they showed it at the primetime of 11:50ish on a Tuesday night.......yes, that is sarcasm. Anyone for Killinaskully/Tubbers/Craig Doyle/Fair City etc.?

    Gutted.

    Great final episode.

Will be sad to see it go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,722 ✭✭✭anotherlostie

I really like the way in which they explained the Tom and Tobin stories. Lenny went back to being a grifter and got away with it. Didn't think they'd be fishing Lily Tomlin out of the water. Zedeck got away too, but the moral compass came back and bit Frobisher in the ass. Nice to see Wes and Fisk back too.

But Michael slamming into Patty seemed contrived - how would he know where to find her, even if she was picking up the Jag. I did like her response to being played by Michael's girlfriend. And the whole Julia thing passed me by - she chose to let the baby die for the sake of her career, but I don't know why 10-15 minutes of the season finale was taken up with this. I think we already know that Patti is a coldhearted manipulative bitch at this stage.

Here's hoping DirecTV take up the option to keep making the show. I think it's great complicated TV and would recommend to anyone thinking of a show to watch when summer is on us and all the usual suspects are off air.

Was a bit taken back By Alex's dismissal-it does not make any sense to me. Are you sure there are only two episodes left?? Seems like two many threads to sew up unless they carry over until next series. This is the only series I have watched. Seems other posters are watching the US version so I will avert mine eyes from posts above!

Cancelled in the USA or Ireland??

Cancelled in the USA or Ireland??
Cancelled in the sense that there won't be a fourth season.
Season 3 has just ended in the U.S. and is currently showing on RTE which has shown up to episode 11 of season three meaning that there's two episodes left.

Try to get your hands on Season One which is the best season really. Alex's dismissal makes sense in terms of the complicated relationship between Patti and Ellen.
Also Season One is the equivalent of a page turner novel where you can't wait to see what happens in the next episode and how all the strands pull together. The other two seasons didn't quite manage to replicate that.

A show that almost never disappointed. One of my favourite tv programmes ever. Very sad that it probably wont make it back!

A truly brilliant programe, without a doubt one of the best ever made and I am furious it is likely to be cancelled. When you consider the utter ****e that most people are spoon fed on TV these days, for such an excellent intelligent drama such as this which has won loads of awards and recived amazing critical acclaim, to be cancelleled due to poor rating is pathetic. It is in another league to 99% of the crap that pollutes the TV scheduels. The entire cast in all three seasons were outstanding, from the excellent William Hurt in 2 to the suprisingly great Ted Danson (hard to believe that is the same guy who played Sam Mallone). And of course Glenn Close who is frankly one of the greatest acctresses of all time in my view - the fact she hasnt won an Oscar yet is insane. Maybe she could play Patty Hewes in a film? Afterall this is streets ahead of recent legal films that the Acedemy loved such as Michael Clayton.

I loved the final episode - it was great how all the stories from not only this season but all three were wrapped up so well. There is a very well written article asking the question "Is 'Damages' too good for TV?" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ed-martin/damages-is-this-fx-drama_b_546669.html
