    Just to explain.... would you go from a 2008 E92 M3 to a 2007 997 911....

Cost of change... small or no deal.

    I'd go for this:

The "Rub it in everyones face" thread is that way ->

    keep the M3

At least in that picture the Porsche interior has the colour of a used condom ...so no, I wouldn't, not that one.

    would you?

... does it matter? can you afford it? If so, and you like it, then why not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,329 ✭✭✭kdevitt

I would - but not for that one, the interior doesn't do it for me. The M3 would be just as quick, but not as special imo!

Was keeping an eye on some nice ones in the UK with the aero kit, but sensible buy another house hat is firmly on at the moment!

The AMV8 is a bit crap to be honest. It looks great, but it isnt that quick really and the chassis is very poorly tuned resulting in poor handling.

    911 any day.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34,809 ✭✭✭✭smash

Why not get this and spend the spare cash on a respray and some extras http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=201001196467633

it would be worth it in my opinion!

Dunno where some of you are getting your test drive comments from, I wasn't driving. ;)

I'd say the M3 would be a fair bit quicker but it's the special factor that you mentioned KD.

More than happy with what I have just a slow day and kinda thinking what would it cost to change.

I do have a thing for beige and black, I think black and black would be kinda boring, grey and red also nice.

each to their own.... but the AM has something special about it, that to me the porsche doesnt...

Big fan of black and beige/cream myself - but the whole dash and steering wheel thing is what puts me off! Black on black can definitely be very dull - as I know only too well.

Blue and black I like though :)http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1433503.htm

Yeh that one looks very well... reason I noticed the one I posted was because it's from place I got the M3 so I suppose you'd expect a little extra from them.

Maxwell's one is from the Belgard liquidation. It's still on Porsche.co.uk at €85,000 (i can't give a direct link)

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    Very nice.

But are you sure you want another old fashioned manual gearbox? With your record of quickly changing cars, I think I would go for a Cayman first or are you off those now? :D

I must say I have a soft spot for Aston Martin, and the V8 looks gorgeous in the flesh. However, having witnessed a Gen 1 997C2S wipe the floor with the V8 (and, from memory, the 500bhp BMW M6) on Top Gear a few years ago, the 997 is a far superior car.

My own conundrum is whether I move from a 987S (3.2) to either a 997C2S/C4S or the 993 C2S. The 993 C2/4S has a good deal more collector appeal IMHO and has a beautiful classic shape to it. Check out this baby:

No, for that money I'd get a classic and save some for parts and repairs :)

I would deffo take the 911 over the M3 having driven both a good bit 911 any day such a much more special car. Either way have fun.

My mate has one in the UK. He likes it but I do get the impression that he's not 100% happy with it. No obvious reason but just get that feeling. We drove to The Ring, him in the Porker, me in the 535d and a couple of stripped out E34 M5's. The 911 was awesome on track - a real confident sports car, however on the journey to and from Germany it didn't really stand out in performance terms

If, as you say its straight swap or little money than i'd certainly look at it. 911 would have to be manual, there's something not right about an auto Porsche. (obviously the PDK is the exception except it had those stupid buttons on the wheel up to this year)

I like the one posted too, all personal taste really i suppose.

    M3 is sold.

I'm on the hunt as a straight deal buyer....

Looking at a 911 but finding the right colour, spec, price and condition in a small country like ours... not too easy.

How much do you have to play with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,323 ✭✭✭MarkN

Don't want to spend more than 65 or so.

Half of me is thinking get a 05 630i for 25k but I just can't shift this Porsche idea.

The Ferrari is a good buy, it's very cheap and it's a good one, I know the car!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,534 ✭✭✭SV

I really don't know why anyone with this kind of money to spend wouldn't buy a ferrari.
    I mean..come on!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34,809 ✭✭✭✭smash

I've suggested it twice on this thread already :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,686 ✭✭✭JHMEG

Cos the Aston is gorgeous. Easily the best looking car for the money.

65k would be into GT-R territory?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,605 ✭✭✭Fizman

I'd go with the Aston too tbh. Such and incredible looking machine. Although in saying that I was overtaken by a black '08 911 turbo in Limerick yesterday and couldn't help but go "wow".

    I love these threads!

To MarkN, (disclaimer ....all In my opinion). I have followed your threads, and realize you have a car addiction problem.!

As you know, when you are spending big money, you stand to loose big money.

If it was me I would spend the 25K on the 630i you mentioned and enjoy that for a year or so. Then change for another 25K car and you still will have plenty of spare cash.

Use the spare cash to enjoy life, go on exotic track days and sports car weeks in Spain/Italy, where they supply all the latest sports cars and you get to hammer them around a track in glorious sunshine.

The alternative is to put all your eggs in one car, and tootle around here on poxy roads in traffic and rain/snow.

I really do understand the desire to get a better and better car (I have the same problem, I'm getting help :D) , But I think you reach a point where to get a 5% better car costs 50K, and there are still things that were better in the last car, I think you can end up feeling short changed.

Some of my most enjoyable drives have been in 5 to 15K cars that you are not to worried about. you get to enjoy using/abusing them more. I realized this when I sold an expensive car that I was always worried about, I didn't like parking in car parks etc, The feeling of relief when I stepped into a cheaper car was great, a weight off the shoulders.

    all just my opinion

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,201 ✭✭✭KamiKazi

MarkN, you're clearly bored with cars. What you need is one of these:

    ducati-1098.jpg

A lot quicker and a lot more fun than your cars :pac:

    :D

DanThe - I don't agree, you only live once!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 55 ✭✭DanThe

Just trying to explore some alternatives:)

It can be easy to slip into tunnel vision when thinking about cars.

Everyone will have their own ideas of what car to get, That's what makes life interesting!
