Many teams are launching new jerseys for 2010. Here's some of the ones released so far:

    Corcaigh

    ONLC157-2.jpg

    An Clár

    ONLC160A-2.jpg

    Cill Mhantáin

    ONLC162-2.jpg

    Fear Manach

    ONLC159-2.jpg

    Ard Mhaca

    ONLC172-2.jpg

    Laois

    AZZC010-2.jpg

    Dún na nGall

    AZZC012-2.jpg

    Port Láirge

    1263489910_19440.jpg

Presume other teams will launch new ones over the next few weeks such as the Dubs etc. Fermanagh is best of this lot. Just plain and simple with no squiggles or funny designs.

louth should have a new jersey seen as we are changing the county crest

God that's a smashing jersey Donegal have. I really hope that's the template Azzurri are using this year, that in white and blue for us would be lovely.

No word on ours yet but we do have new sponsors (linky...)

Given the reputation of Cavan fans it would hardly make commercial sense. Unless of course the were selling them for a tenner;)

Wowsa, that's very different. The collar looks a bit bizarre but the 3 logo looks very nice on it (much better than Yoplait Essence anyway!). Anyone know when it hits the shops?

Looks ok and but with all the blue patches on the arms and collar, you'ld have to check what the back is like before you go out and buy it. They could have gone mad with the crayons

I think i'll be advertising Gain Feeds for another year.

I think its disgusting and an insult to all women GAA players and supporters that they got blonde Irish models to pose beside players to unveil the new Waterford Jersey.

GAA is one of the few sports that has as many women supporters as men, with camogie and football being one of the fastest growing sports among young girls and women. It isolates and offends all of us women who are into GAA by diminishing us to a bit of eye candy beside the boys. I am disgusted at the GAA for going down this sexist route when there is absolutely no need for it.
To think that Waterford GAA spent hundreds of euro on hiring these models ,when so many ladies football and camogie clubs are struggling financially.
I was really sickened when I saw a huge picture of this in the sports pages of all the papers. There are some excellent camogie and football players in Waterford who train day in day out and are gifted sports people.Unfortunately they will never get a picture as big on the back pages.

Hmm I think they look quite fetching.

Only problem is the 3 on the front. It will look like a team of number 3s

    And here was me about to buy a season ticket to go watch the Waterford Camogie team;

Its simple, Its marketing and although I understand your point are the Camogie and ladies football teams included under this sponsorship even? I know here in Dublin the women do look after themselves and get their own sponsors etc so that could be the reason?

No of course not, womens sports dont get any attention in mainstream media so why would 3 sponser them?

I just really dont like seeing the GAA going down this sexist route. Unlike soccer and rugby the GAA has a massive female following, why is it trying to jepordise that? One of the reasons I hate going to rugby matches is women that go to them are just seen as a bit of totty for the lads. You never get that treatment at a GAAmatch!

    General rant warning
The only women who make it onto the Sports pages, which takes up half of the newspapers btw, are 'hot' women. No wonder people say women arent interested in sports when this sort of content really isolates them.
I must remember to tell my young niece that the best way to make it onto the sports pages is not to become an accomplised athlete but get a nose and boob job.

Those women are hot all right
Burnt from the sunbed more like!!
    Fekin umpa lumpas.

its a nice way to highlight an amateur game by using professional, paid fashion models.
They get paid to promote a jersey BUT the players dont get a penny.

    seriously.
In that picture the 2 models, the lad from 3 and the photographers taking the photo are getting paid. Add to that, the lad that opens the door to croker to let them in (plus other security) and the grounds men looking after the pitch who also are on a salary.
The 2 lads wearing the jerseys who are the centre of attention, the lads that actually play the game and give meaning to the jersey arent getting paid and would have to take time OFF work to be there.

    anyways back off tangent...
Am waiting too to see if the cavan jersey is worth buying this year. The design last year want the best to be honest.

Lads The camogie team isn't even under the GAA umbrella so this has nothing to do with them. They have nothing to do with the sponsorship therefore 3 would have to negotiate a separate contract if they wanted to sponsor the ladies team.

So its not really the "GAA going down the sexist route" now is it?

Yeah, but it features the new Boyne Cable Bridge. Which is predominantly in Co. Meath. So a few clubs want it changed. Because our crest really is the most pressing issue in Louth GAA:rolleyes:

What GAA matches do you go to!!

'3' are who organised the sponsorship photoshoot, not the Waterford GAA. So blame '3' for going down the sexist route, because surprisingly enough having a couple of blondes in your picture gets your ad noticed, like it or not.
And as for the amateur players, you can rest assured that they are getting paid for the photo shoot too. Just not necessarily by Waterford GAA.

There is lot more effective and better ways to get your ad noticed. Hiring out models is lazy and cheapens your whole brand to be honest, while also isolating 50% of the population who couldnt care less If the blonde girls are there or not. Whats the point in putting these girls who dont play football/hurling in when they have no bearing on the product whatsoever.
It also shows a gross lack of insight by 3 into Waterfords fanbase who would have a significant amount of female followers who have no interest in being seen as totty on the side.

All Im saying is that its a bit sickening that the only way a women can get a big picture into the sports section is If she's a model. Its just very frustrating and unfair from a womens point of view, thats all Im saying and I wish things were differnet.

Louth changed their crest only at the start of the decade. Why would you change it again so soon? Seems like a complete waste of money. The new crest with the bridge is very nice!

Edit: i've seen your explanation post above. Makes you wonder why Louth County Board opted for a Meath landmark in the first place!

I can see where you're coming from, but to be fair, Sean Og O hAilpín and Jason Sherlock have gotten their kit off before for magazine shoots, i seem to remember my oldest sister swooning over them - that is until she saw the Gooch Cooper in another picture :D So it happens to both sexes i'm afraid. Take MLS in the States for example. It has many many female supporters and its players regularly flaunt their chests in various magazines. Guys like Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey are two former MLS players who have posed semi naked. You may be right in what you say, but in the end, sex sells.

Okay people two things. First if you are posting anything please refrain from using potentially abusive names or language to refer to teams. Secondly, for anybody that wishes to discuss sexism in the GAA then feel free to discuss it in another thread (I will create one and move posts if you want), this thread is about new jersies for 2010

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,552 ✭✭✭chinguetti

3 put the money in so if they want a picture of models in their sponsorship launch of a county team be it in Dublin or Donegal, they'll get it. Marketing works if everyone noticed the brand '3'.

On the jersey front, i'ld wish they would leave the jersey white and blue and stop with the dashes of blue around the place. I know that Waterford will never need an away jersey (blue) but the best jersey in years was the Kildare away jersey from last year. Shame that they will never mass produce it.

Who else is due a change? is kilkenny changing this year or Galway who have had their shirts since 2007?
the most common gaa cycle is 3 consecutive summers but in some cases it differs. For example, Clare use a 4 consecutive summer cycle, and in the case of sponsorship change a shirt may only last 1 season like last seasons Dublin and Tipperary finches 2001.

It's grand actually! I was also wondering would it just be random blue splashed around. Its plain except for at each side theses a kinda curvy blue line.
(That did the jersey no justice at all... :pac:)

New Cork jersey is alright, would have much preferred something like the new Dublin jersey (pains me to say that but it looks nice and simple) and the new Fermanagh jersey. Love the retro style, hate all the squiggles and fancy lines!!

Oh and they made a complete mess of the Cork keepers jersey!!

Did u see the back of the new Cork one, with the fancy writing and those three strips? And they put the website on the back as well, bit much IMO! The lines on the front remind me of the new Man Utd jersey!

Agree with u regarding the keepers jersey, complete mess

Just had a look at the back of the Cork jersey there. Agree with ya, it's a bit over the top. Why can't O'Neill's just keep it nice and simple. Yeah the lads at O'Neill's must have been "inspired" by the Man Utd chevron.

I do like that Antrim jersey above, nice retro style to it, looks kinda like the '89 jersey.

    New Dublin jersey...horrible!!

Big red Vodafone logo plastered across the front...they could have at least used a white logo and attempted to blend it into the design:mad:

Why are the stripes 2 different sizes, i don't think it looks good at all, it's like they were going to go with all stripes like usual and then decided to change the design of the jersey half way through.

I think you'll find the big O'Neills logo on the front of the jersey is a bit of a giveaway! O'Neills own the rights to the 3 stripes in Ireland afaik and that's a lot of the clothing they sell incorporates it, including some of the Kerry gear.
