Female Arts Group?

I've been thinking for a while now of starting a female arts group (FARTS for short) on boards. I was wondering would any of the ladies here be interested?

I'm trying to do the 365 day photo challenge, with various cameras. I'm also working on writing and painting. I was going to start my own private diary on it online, and then thought, maybe other people would like a space to do their thing, whatever it may be, and I thought it might be a decent side project for the ladies lounge ladies.

It would of course be a private forum, to work on artistic creations before unleashing them upon the general populace where we earn millions and spend the rest of our lives drinking champagne and eating cheese off sticks. Or perhaps not.

    Any interest?

Private by means of only available by paying for membership or invite when interest is shown though?

I'd be up for it anyway

Like, just a private forum here on boards to log progress or post images or discuss ideas.

Sortof an online blog or workspace.

I'd be interested in looking at that (Obviously not getting involved cause I'm not a lady).

TLL is full of creative ladys who have a keen interest in the arts (Pika for instance).

It sounds like a good idea SF. Hope it works out.

Ah, sorry lads, this would would be a private forum for the ladies, initially anyway.

I'd love that. I'm doing the 365 photographs as well so it would really cool to have a forum. Great idea! :)

I'd be interested... been wanting to get into photography and get back to drawing/art/writing again. It'd be nice to get inspiration and I like seeing what other people come up with as well.

I'd be keen, it'd also force me to get my camera fixed, it's been nearly a month now :O

I love the idea. I find it hard these days to motivate myself creatively. I might get some inspiration.

    Yes please.

Why does it have to be only for women? You're potentially excluding some wonderful artists with loads of creativity by making it available to only 50% of people.

Just because. It would be a private forum, and there's an Arts category already, so it's not like they'd have nowhere to post, and would wither and die creatively.

I'd be interested in the writing part of it anyway. :)

Yes but and I could be wrong here, many women might feel more open and comfortable to explore that stuff with just other women in a private setting. My own gender tend towards critique or technique or being reductive which may dissuade some. You can see that in some threads here. An element pf badgering can come across. Creativity grows with practice and confidence and I reckon the latter would work a little better as a woman only forum at first anyway. Though the demographics are changing boards is much more a male bastion and there are subtle diffs in how we operate, or at least some of us do. My take anyway. Plus as SF said there already exists an arts category and it could act as a first show place before going public and making millions. :D

I think its a great idea FWIW

Yeah, me too. Have some stuff that may or may not be worth reading, but don't want to expose it to a huge audience.

yeah, i'd be really interested in that. help with my new year's resolution to paint more. nothing like other artists' work and enthusiasm to help inspire and motivate :)

Sounds like a great idea! I've been meaning to get back into ink and water colour. This is a well needed kick up the ass! Also gimme a chance to show case my bead sprite art! :D

I think it's a great idea, and I also think Wibbs hit the nail on the head with regard to criticism (insightful dude! :)).

It might be incorrect of me to think so, but from experience men tend to have a less emotional and therefore slightly harsher way of providing constructive criticism.

We just approach the same thing from different angles.

I might just dust off my quill.

Apologies if this is a stupid question.. but how wide does the area of "Arts" go? are we talking literature, photography, films, or does it include things such as crafts too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,196 ✭✭✭Crumble Froo

i imagine it encompasses all of the above, just with a space to talk, brainstorm, diary and showcase the process and result. i think. my understanding anyway.

Thats my take and Ive had to catch myself doing it, but it massively depends on the individual too of course. I just think a private forum will be better, especially for beginners.

If quilting qualifies as a creative craft I could certainly use the feedback and extra motivation!

    Quilting like, making quilts?

Wow I'd be well interested in something like this. I'm always afraid to post in the proper arts forums in case they laugh at me. :(

Yeah, although with space limits I prefer to work on smaller pieces like wall hangings and mini quilts. My (main) current project is a crazy quilt block - lots of embroidery and beads. What I've wanted to do this year is a series of journal quilts (usually letter size pieces), which fits in more with the "art" side of the craft.

I'm hoping this forum would help people with that too. Especially people who are starting out at something.

I think it's art enough by itself, quilting is fantastic. That should be really interesting.

Hoping to get this rolling sometime next week, all going well, if everyone's still interested.

Dunno about that. :s Once made a crucifix for a religious mate and that was hard and that was just a necklace as such.

Would love to get back drawing and or painting again, but feel like iv left it so long anything I would now produce would be comparable to that of a 7 year olds scribbles :(
